Kalpana team closing in on Arc route decision
Andrew Balding's four-year-old is without a win in three races this season but has performed with credit in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, the Pretty Polly and the King George at Ascot leading to her heading the lists for the ParisLongchamp showpiece.
Owners Juddmonte won the Arc last year with Bluestocking who, like Kalpana, finished second in the King George and also ran in the Juddmonte International before winning the Prix Vermeille.
'Kalpana remains in good form,' said Barry Mahon, Juddmonte's racing manager.
'She's had a little freshen up but we've yet to fully commit to where she's going to go next.
'The options are the September Stakes on the all-weather at Kempton or the Prix Vermeille.
'Hopefully we'll have a decision by the end of this week.'

Ombudsman earns revenge over Delacroix in Juddmonte
Ombudsman came out on top in his highly-anticipated rematch with Delacroix to win the Juddmonte International pipped Ombudsman to the post in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown in July but the roles were reversed in Castle, who went off at 150-1, made an early break and led by 20 lengths but was chased down by Ombudsman under William Buick and had to settle for third."This horse put in an amazing performance - unbelievable," Buick told ITV1."I'm delighted with him. He's a very, very special horse and he showed all his attributes today."Earlier, Derby winner Lambourn could only finish fifth as Pride Of Arras, returning to the scene of his Dante Stakes win, took the Great Voltigeur Ralph Beckett-trained Pride Of Arras is aiming to get his career back on track after finishing last at the Curragh in the Irish Derby and 17th of 18 in the Derby at Epsom over the won both of those races, having also claimed victory in Chester in May, and went off as the 4-5 favourite but was unable to make it four on the Rossa Ryan remained patient throughout on Pride Of Arras before moving past Carmers, who finished second, with a furlong to go.

William Buick dedicates £1.3million race victory to racing friend following sudden death
Duncan Pearce, who was 55, was due to attend the York Ebor Festival and have dinner with Buick on the day he won the Juddmonte International on Ombudsman Top jockey William Buick dedicated victory in one of Britain's richest horse races on Wednesday to a racing friend who died suddenly last week. In the £1.3 million Juddmote International, Buick had the chance to avenge the defeat of Royal Ascot winner Ombudsman in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Delacroix. Ombudsman's trainers John and Thady Gosden hatched a new plan which involved supplementing the also Godolphin-owned Birr Castle, trained in France by Andre Fabre, to make the running for the 7-4 favourite. For a moment the race looked set to live up to its reputation as the 'graveyard of champions' as the 150-1 Birr Castle, under Robert Havlin, raced into a 20 lengths lead at halfway. The pursuers gradually reduced the margin but he clung on until a furlong out, where Ombudsman swept past to score by three and a half lengths from Delacroix. Birr Castle held on for third, but the winning rider's first thoughts were for his friend Duncan Pearce. Buick said: 'We lost our dear friend Duncan last week. Duncan loved his racing. He was meant to be here this week. I was supposed to have dinner with him tonight. He passed away suddenly. His partner Sarah is being very brave at the moment. He would have been very proud to be here. This is for him. 'Duncan would always come here for the Ebor meeting. He was friends with a lot of people here who would know him. He was only 55. It was very sad and very sudden.' John Gosden admitted that there was a moment when he feared another of his stars would be beaten by the pacemaker, as top miler Field Of Gold experienced in the Sussex Stakes last month won by 150-1 Qirat. "I thought with two furlongs to run Andre had won the race!,' he said. 'You don't often see that, he's run a huge race to be third. I did say to William that if he'd sat four lengths off the pacemaker he'd have won by ten lengths but there we go.' He continued: "What happened was the Japanese jockey was with Rab (Havlin on Birr Castle) but then he kept taking back and let Rab slip the field. Past the two marker, he was still six lengths in front. William said when he let him (Ombudsman) go, he absolutely flew and went from second gear to fifth gear in the blink of an eye." Ombudsman had finished a neck behind Delacroix in the Eclipse last time out, but Gosden felt that race was perhaps not run to suit. He said: "The Eclipse was a muddling race and we'll leave it at that. Full marks to Delacroix, but in an evenly-run race we were the superior horse today. "The two obvious races for him are the Irish Champion and Ascot for Champions Day. It will be Sheikh Mohammed's decision if he stays in training but he is a sportsman. "William thinks he'll stay a mile and a half but I think why change things? Were he to go for the Arc, we'd need one of the rare occasions with a fast-ground Arc - which do happen occasionally."

I'm taking a chance on a ‘terrific' 20-1 outsider who simply loves York on day two of the Ebor meeting
NOT many horses love York like LA TRINIDAD, and I'm hoping the admirable handicapper can at least hit the frame once again on ITV on Thursday afternoon. La Trinidad goes for Roger Fell and Rowan Scott in the hugely competitive Clipper, a Heritage Handicap over a mile. 1 So far La Trinidad has raced 47 times in his career, and his form figures at York over the last five years read: 7336-611964-80038-597-5700-35. The son of Bated Breath is back on a mark now of 96 which gives him a chance of a big effort. He ran third here in May off 2lb higher behind Old Cock. He's just a terrific stick and I'm happy to support him for a place. Of course the big race on day two of the Juddmonte International fixture is the Group 1 Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks for fillies and mares over 1m4f. It probably will be simple for MINNIE HAUK who will be a short price but tactically this is interesting. I'd imagine Garden of Eden will make the running from Qilin Queen with Minnie Hauk sitting in third and Estrange waiting to pounce. The Epsom and Irish Oaks heroine ultimately will probably be too good in the conditions, with Estrange likely to need a softer surface to show her best. Ryan Moore rides for Aidan O'Brien. In recent times the likes of Snowfall, Enable, Snow Fairy and Alexandrova banged in two Oaks before the Yorkshire equivalent. They were priced at 8-15, 1-4, 5-2 and 4-9 respectively. ITV coverage gets underway today with the Group 2 Lowther Stakes for juvenile fillies over 6f. AMERICA QUEEN was most impressive on debut at Haydock and might be another useful one for Group 1 hero Richard Hughes. A 180,000 euro breeze-up buy in May, the grey was slowly away on debut but came clear inside the final furlong. That was a Class 3 and this is a Group 2 so it will be a very different test, but Moore is booked and she looks a star in the making. There's a sales race in the Harry's Half a Million by Goffs for youngsters over 6f. I liked Italica in this, but now he is out it's really in the hands of TADEJ. With a rating of 106, the Archie Watson runner is already clear in the rankings and he comes to this in banging form having won a Group 3 in Deauville last time. A run on fast ground at Royal Ascot suggests conditions should be no issue even though that success can on good and she ran on soft the time before. Big chance for Hollie Doyle. My hope stepped up to 7f last time and was third in Listed company at Ascot. Prior to that he was a fine winner over 6f at Salisbury. He toughed it out that day under a penalty and he progressed again at the Berkshire track. An each-way selection under James Doyle. Finally the Listed Galtres Stakes over 1m4f. ALICE MONET interests me here for the legend Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes. The daughter of Teofilo has done little wrong, scoring at both Fairyhouse and Leopardstown on her last two starts. Her victory last time came off a mark of 87 in handicap company, so she has a lot more to do here stepped up in trip. But she might be miles better than we have seen so far and Weld is no fool!
