18-Year-Old Dancer Found Dead in Her Home Remembered as the 'Most Vibrant Girl': 'Her Time with Us Was Far Too Short'
An 18-year-old dancer is being remembered by her loved ones following her tragic death.
Layla-Maria Grubb was found dead in her home in Australia on Saturday, July 19, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Her family told the outlet that the teenager died just hours after she was sent home from a hospital following a suspected seizure.
"We all want to know what happened. We are searching for answers," Grubb's mother, Beth Ashton, told the Daily Telegraph.
Grubb studied at the dance company Village Nation. The company's director, Briden Starr, described her as a "healthy, positive, focused girl," per the Daily Mail.
In a heartfelt social media post shared after her daughter's death, Ashton wrote, "Our baby girl left us far too soon."
"Layla-Maria brought so much joy, light, and love into the lives of everyone who knew her. A gorgeous dancer, who moved through life with the same beauty and passion she brought to the stage," she continued. "Her laughter, kindness, and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered."
"Though her time with us was far too short, her impact will remain in our hearts, forever 18. ❤️," the grieving mother concluded. "We kindly ask for your thoughts and prayers for our family during this incredibly difficult time."
The JLC Dance Company — which Grubb belonged to in Western Australia — also shared a tribute. The organization said the teen left for Sydney in 2023 to pursue a professional career in dance.
"Layla was on a trajectory to stardom and had immense potential," the JLC Dance Company wrote on Facebook. "Layla was an amazing student, and friend, with a great personality and huge smile that lit up any room."
The group continued: "Layla was an amazing friend to a lot of our staff and students and this devastating news has affected the entire JLC family and everyone that knew Layla for no matter how long, or short.

In a GoFundMe page, Grubb's friends said they wanted to "give Layla the send-off she truly deserves" and celebrate her life in a way "that reflects the incredible love and joy she brought into our lives."
"Layla was pure light — an amazing dancer with an infectious laugh!" the friends continued, also remembering Grubb as "the funniest, goofiest, most vibrant girl you could ever meet, lighting up every room with her laughter and fun."
A funeral service for the dancer will be held in Sydney on Friday, Aug. 1.
Grubb's death investigation has been referred to the New South Wales coroner, local police told PEOPLE.
"Due to the early stage of the matter, we cannot provide further detail at this time," a spokesperson said.

Evil will not define Southport a year on from attack, deputy council leader says
The people of Southport will not 'allow evil to define' them, a year on from a knife attack on a children's dance class. Tuesday marks one year since Axel Rudakubana, who was 17 at the time, entered the Taylor Swift-themed holiday club in Hart Street and fatally injured Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven. In the days following the attack, during which he also attempted to kill eight other children and two adults, violent disorder broke out in the seaside town and across the country. Deputy leader of Sefton Council Paulette Lappin said now the community was looking to move forward in a positive way. She told the PA news agency: 'It still remains beyond belief, even though I know it to be true, and so it's just very sad. 'From sadness, we hope to bring goodness and that's all we can do.' This summer the area outside Southport Town Hall, where hundreds laid floral tributes and a vigil was held last year, is again filled with colourful flowers. The flowers are now in planters which have been put in place ahead of its transformation into legacy gardens, in memory of those who lost their lives in the attack. Councillor Lappin said: 'It will be designed for the enjoyment and the fun of children, so that all children can come and they can all play in here. 'That's what we have to remember, that it is an absolutely terrible tragedy, but we cannot allow evil to define us.' A new playground is also being built at Churchtown Primary School, in memory of Alice and Bebe, who were both pupils. On the anniversary, members of the public are being asked not to lay flowers but to consider making donations to local causes – including funds set up in the names of the victims of the attack and the Southport Strong Together Appeal, which was established last year to support those affected. No large vigil will be held, but a three-minute silence will be observed at 3pm and churches and community centres will be open for those looking for support or space for quiet reflection. Cllr Lappin said plans for the day were guided by the families, who had their 'thoughts, compassion and incredible respect'. Last summer, a recovery fund was set up to help businesses affected by the attack and to support families. Cllr Lappin said the council had worked with the voluntary sector, specialists involved in trauma, community and faith groups and the emergency services over the past year. 'We hope that this is a holistic approach of listening to everybody with respect and dignity so that we can actually move forward together as much as we possibly can,' she said. 'This work is ongoing. It will continue.'

Logies 2025: MAFS, The Block, MKR and more stars not invited in major snub
The 65th Annual TV Week Logie Awards are exactly one week away, with the ceremony set to recognise some of the most popular actors, presenters, and television personalities for their work over the past year. The nominees include well-known names and programs across multiple networks and streaming services; however, not everyone has been invited to attend the prestigious event. Despite being some of the most recognisable faces on Australian TV and delivering enormous ratings for their respective shows, a large majority of reality TV participants have been snubbed. Here's which of your favourite reality stars you can expect to see on the red carpet next Sunday, and who will be watching from home. Married At First Sight While it was a guarantee in previous years that Married At First Sight participants would be in attendance, Jamie Marinos tells Yahoo Lifestyle that no one from this season's cast has received an invite. 'To be honest, I felt like there was all this talk that we were gonna get invited, but I just didn't trust it, so I actually booked a trip to Europe and I'm doing my own kind of publicity tour in London,' she shares. RELATED: Logies 2025 nominations break tradition with historic moment: 'Amazing' Gold Logie nominees reveal wild campaign strategies: 'Battalion' Radio star's explosive on-air outburst after Logies snub: 'Talentless losers' 'None of us were bloody invited. That's sad for everyone else at the Logies, because we know how to turn up at any kind of dinner party event. It's a shame because I know the rest of the cast probably would have been looking forward to it too. I would have loved to have gone to the Logies with everyone.' It's understood that relationship experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla will be in attendance to represent the show, which is what they did last year after the season 11 cast was also snubbed. The Block Similarly to MAFS, the teams from last year's milestone twentieth season of The Block also missed out on an invite, with Scott Cam, Shelley Craft, and the show's judges expected to attend in their place 'Unfortunately, we haven't received an invite to the Logies,' Ricky Recard tells us. 'If The Block bosses and Channel 9 can fit us on their invite list, I'm sure they will. With so many amazing people involved in the show, from Julian Cress, Scotty Cam, Shelley Craft and too many more for me to mention, it must be so hard to invite everyone along to such a special night.' Despite the 'snub', Ricky says he feels 'privileged' and 'incredibly grateful' to have been a part of the series, and he will be cheering the team on from home. 'I have no doubt the team will bring home the Logie for Best Competition Reality Program, and if they do, to be part of that I'll always hold close to my heart. I love my Block family,' he remarks. The Real Housewives of Sydney This year marks the first time The Real Housewives of Sydney have been nominated for the Logies; however, Victoria Montano tells us that none of the cast members have been invited. 'My understanding is that when the news broke, a few cast members contacted production to ask who was going to attend the Logies. I didn't contact production at all when the news broke - I was under no misconceptions about the fact they would prioritise themselves over the stars of the show. The ladies, who for almost no pay at all, open their lives to the public so that production can make money from our lives,' she shares. My Kitchen Rules Yahoo Lifestyle understands that none of the teams from the recent season of My Kitchen Rules have been asked to attend the Logies, and judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge will instead represent the series on the red carpet. This doesn't bother 2024 champion Simone Preste at all, as he will be busy working on his new business venture. 'We won't be able to attend the event as we'll be opening our second restaurant location at Westfield Chermside next week,' he tells us. 'But with all my heart, I hope MKR takes home the award, fingers crossed!' MasterChef MasterChef judges Poh Ling Yeow and Sofia Levin will definitely be in attendance as they are both first-time nominees, with Poh up for the Gold Logie and Sofia up for Most Popular New Talent. Previous years have seen the show's most recent winner and runner-up in attendance; however, Josh 'Pezza' Perry says he hasn't been contacted. 'I hope they do well at the Logies. It was a great show to be a part of, but I only came second and [I'm] a guy from Tassie, so I'm forgotten about fairly fast, I think,' he tells us. 'But I like that because that's who l am and I probably didn't suit what they wanted.' Farmer Wants A Wife It's unknown who, if anyone, will be in attendance to support Farmer Wants A Wife, as host Natalie Gruzlewski hasn't walked the red carpet since 2014 and none of last year's farmers have been invited. 'I don't think I'm going; they haven't contacted me about it at all,' Farmer Bert Harris tells us. 'No doubt the producers will be the ones going!' Australian Survivor The same can be said for Australian Survivor, with Jonathan LaPaglia unlikely to attend after he was recently fired from the series, and winner Myles Kuah not on the guest list. 'I'm not going to the Logies, but I'm hopeful for a Survivor win,' he tells us. Australian Idol One reality star who will be walking the red carpet is this year's Australian Idol winner, Marshall Hamburger. The 19-year-old will be joined by the show's host, Ricki-Lee Coulter, who is nominated for Most Popular Presenter. 'I am honestly so excited to attend my first Logies ever, and a little nervous as well!' he tells us. 'I have to say I am very excited to hear Jimmy Barnes sing. I've never seen him perform live before, so seeing him in person is going to be a huge honour! I'm also excited to hopefully see some of the crew from Idol, such as Ricki-Lee, the judges, and the production crew as well. 'As for my outfit, I am stuck between an '80s style Farnham look, or a Bruno Mars Silk Sonic look! Who knows what I'll end up wearing though.' Travel Guides Also in attendance will be the cast of Channel 9's Travel Guides, who have won the Logie for Best Lifestyle Program three years running. Cast member and former Beauty and the Geek runner-up Bri Auty tells Yahoo Lifestyle she is hopeful the series will be able to take home another win. 'I'll be there with bells on,' she remarks. 'We got nominated again for Best Lifestyle Program, so hopefully we win again for the fourth year in a row. All of us will be there!' Malcolm-Jamal Warner tried to save daughter, says Costa Rican police chief
(NewsNation) — A police chief in Costa Rica maintains that Malcolm-Jamar Warner, 54, was trying to save his daughter, who was also in the water, at the time of his drowning. Chief of the Tourist Police of the Atlantic Region Elberth León told Us Weekly that he knows what he saw when arriving at the scene. 'The Red Cross also treated the girl [on site] and she didn't need to go to the clinic,' León said. President Trump, Brooke Shields, Jake Paul and others react to death of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan Conflicting statements on Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death Costa Rica's Subdelegation of Bribri of the Judicial Investigation Agency challenged León's claim that the 'The Cosby Show' actor died trying to save his child, US Weekly reports. 'It appears that at one point, Mr. Warner was playing with his daughter at the shoreline,' the agency said. 'He later left her out of the water and supposedly entered the sea along with a friend. It was at that moment that the current pulled them in; the friend managed to get out, but unfortunately, Mr. Warner did not.' The Costa Rican Red Cross spokesperson said a second individual was hospitalized following the incident. The unidentified person was a 29-year-old man from Nicaragua, who was 'swept away by a current' as he was trying to save Warner, according to PEOPLE. Ozzy Osbourne joined Black Sabbath for final show weeks before death León told US Weekly that he was confused by OIJ's statement since they weren't 'present at the scene.' 'They interviewed Malcom's family, but they also weren't there at the time of the accident,' he said. Warner died in Costa Rica on July 20 after getting caught in a current at Playa Cocles in Limon on the country's Caribbean coast, Costa Rican authorities confirmed. He was on a family vacation at the time, according to People. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
