Perform in the local body polls or perish: Revanth warns ministers
Hyderabad: The performance of the ministers in the upcoming local body elections will be a litmus test for them. Those who fail to achieve the desired results in the crucial elections w ill face the consequences. This was the hard-hitting warning served by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to his cabinet colleagues during an informal meeting with them here on Monday. The local body elections, release of Rythu Bharosa funds and implementation of Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, Indiramma houses and other welfare and development programmes initiated by the state government came up for discussion during the meeting.
The Chief minister explained about the Congress strategy to defeat the opposition in the ensuing elections and winning most of the local bodies, especially Grama Panchayats, Mandal Parishads, Zilla Parishad and municipalities.
Hinting at the release of a notification for the local body elections later this month, Revanth Reddy cautioned the ministers that the party high command will take a call on their continuation in the cabinet based on their performances in the local body elections. Sources said that the ministers brought to the fore some challenges being faced by them in some Assembly constituencies where the local leaders are unhappy due to delay in filling nominated posts.
They also urged the CM to release funds to complete pending works that were taken up in local bodies to avoid ground-level resentment that could impact the poll prospects. The ministers were also given the responsibility of coordinating with the local MLAs and providing necessary support to address the local issues before the election notification was issued. The Chief Minister urged the ministers to take up a campaign on the implementation of the schemes at the gross-root level, mainly disbursement of the Rythu Bharosa benefits, selection of beneficiaries under Indiramma, Rajiv Yuva Viaksam and release of funds to women self-help groups. The ministers have been asked to organize special meetings with women groups and convince them to support the Congress in the ensuing local body elections.

New Delhi: Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, has once again skipped the summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the ongoing money laundering probe linked to fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. According to sources, Mr Vadra is currently abroad to attend his daughter's graduation ceremony. He had earlier missed a summons issued on June 10 as well, citing flu-like symptoms. The agency had issued fresh summons for Tuesday, June 17, asking Mr Vadra to join the investigation in Delhi. The ED is probing alleged links between Mr Vadra and two London properties said to be acquired by Sanjay Bhandari - one at 12, Bryanston Square and another at Grosvenor Hill Court, 13 Bourdon Street. Officials claim the Bryanston Square property was renovated on Mr Vadra's directions and funded by him, and that he stayed there on multiple occasions. The properties, along with certain land parcels in India, are being investigated as alleged "proceeds of crime" under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency had filed the money laundering case in 2016. Another key figure in the case is NRI businessman CC Thampi, who was arrested in 2020. Authorities claim Mr Thampi played a significant role in facilitating property deals for Mr Vadra through a Dubai-based company. Sanjay Bhandari, a 61-year-old fugitive arms dealer, is under investigation by multiple agencies - ED, CBI, Income Tax Department, and Delhi Police - for violations ranging from foreign exchange laws to the Official Secrets Act. Indian authorities have sent two extradition requests for Mr Bhandari, both certified by then UK Home Secretary Priti Patel in 2020. Although he was arrested in the UK, his extradition was blocked earlier this year by the King's Bench Division of the UK High Court, citing potential risks of mistreatment in Indian prisons. Mr Vadra has denied any connection, directly or indirectly, and termed the charges a "political witch hunt". The businessman said he was being "hounded and harassed".

Congress government committed to farmer welfare: Telangana Dy CM Bhatti
HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated the Congress government's commitment to farmers' welfare despite criticism from BRS leaders. Speaking at the Rythu Nestham programme, Vikramarka said the government had faced several challenges but had remained steadfast in assisting farmers. 'We have faced all sorts of challenges and have stood by farmers,' he said. Vikramarka alleged that BRS leaders were attempting to malign the government. 'While this government is providing help and cooperation to the people, BRS leaders are burning with jealousy. Even BRS leaders themselves have admitted their party is filled with evil spirits. Today, these spirits are making a spectacle. Chase them away, don't allow them into your villages,' he said. He outlined the government's vision for the agricultural sector, expressing hope that farmers would prosper and that crops would flourish. He assured that new welfare schemes would be introduced in the coming months. Vikramarka stressed that the Congress government had not discontinued any welfare scheme introduced by the previous regime and was implementing additional programmes aimed at supporting farmers. He pointed out that within three to four months of taking office, the government had deposited Rs 21,000 crore under the farmer loan waiver scheme, an initiative unmatched by any other state.

Telangana govt to disburse Rs 9,000 crore to 70,11,984 farmers in 9 days under Rythu Bharosa
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that his government will disburse Rs 9,000 crore to farmers under the Rythu Bharosa Scheme over the next nine days. A total of 70,11,984 farmers will receive the assistance, covering 1.49 crore acres across the state. 'The aim is to ensure the well-being of farmers,' Revanth stated, adding that his regime has spent Rs 1,01,782 crore on farmer welfare over the past 18 months, including expenditure on paddy procurement. The chief minister was taking part in 'Rythu Nestham', a video conference initiative enabling farmers to interact with agricultural experts and scientists at the Agriculture University. He also held an interaction with farmers through video link. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao and officials were present. During the video conference, the chief minister accused the previous BRS government of failing to fulfil promises made to farmers. He claimed that the BRS government did not fully implement its loan waiver commitment. Of the total Rs 11,500 crore released for waiving farm loans, Rs 8,500 crore went towards interest payments, leaving only Rs 3,000 crore as direct benefit to farmers, Revanth alleged. He alleged that during its 10 years in power, the BRS regime spent only Rs 16,000–Rs 17,000 crore on farmer welfare. Revanth alleged that former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had asked farmers not to cultivate paddy while cultivating paddy himself on his 150 acres. 'In contrast, the people's government is encouraging paddy cultivation and procurement of every grain produced,' he added. The chief minister stated that his government was providing a bonus of Rs 500 for superfine paddy, enabling poor families to access quality rice. Telangana, he said, had become the leading state in paddy production with 2.8 crore metric tonnes.
