Grief engulfs villages after West Bengal bus tragedy
Motihari: An air of grief and disbelief hangs over Sarsawa village, where six residents, including two women and a minor boy, were among those killed in Friday's bus accident in West Bengal's East Burdwan district. Since news of the tragedy broke, villagers have gathered at the homes of the bereaved, offering words of comfort and silent support. The wails of mourning echo through the narrow lanes. At the gate of his thatched home, Hari Paswan sat weeping inconsolably for his wife, Surpati Devi, who had died in the crash. "She promised me she would return safely in three days," he said. In another home, the mother of Paras Sah grieved with a group of women. She collapsed twice from shock and grief, having lost her young son. With his death, the family has been left without a breadwinner. Raju Sahani of Lalbegiya village, who worked as the manager of the ill-fated bus company, has been left devastated by the deaths of his wife, Mira Devi, and their 14-year-old son, Amarjit Kumar. "I have no desire to live on this earth," he said, his face etched with despair. "I have lost everything; life has no meaning now," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! gofitlifeguide Click Here Undo For some, the tragedy has also left them in helpless uncertainty. Sumitra Devi recounted how her brother had travelled from Nepal, and, along with her mother-in-law and young daughter, joined the pilgrimage. All three were seriously injured and are now in hospital in Bardhaman. "I have no money to go and see them," she said quietly, her voice barely audible over the sobs around her. Byculla Masjid welcomes non-Muslim visitors
Perhaps there could not have been a more solemn occasion than the Independence Day for this. As the country celebrated its 79th Independence Day with the theme "Nayab Bharat", the 125-year-old Chishti Hindustani Masjid in Byculla invited a group of non-Muslims for a "Masjid Parichay" or "Know My Mosque" initiative. Conducted by the 'Prophet for All' campaign to celebrate Prophet Muhammad's 1500th birthday (September 5 or 6), the 'Masjid Parichay' programme saw non-Muslim visitors getting familiarised with rituals involved in the daily namaz. Besides, the Hindu guests were given a guided tour of the iconic mosque by Maulana Abdul Jabbar Azmi, the mosque's imam. He explained everything, from wazu (ablutions) to azan or calls for prayers five times a day, salah (prayers) to Friday khutba (sermons). "This is where the imam stands and delivers sermons. The sermons are aimed at guiding the community members on how to live a peaceful, harmonious life. The weekly congregation prayers also facilitate community members to catch up with them," said Maulana Abdul Jabbar Azmi, standing near the pulpit. "This is a good initiative. Our Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb teaches us how to coexist despite our differences. This visit helped remove many misconceptions about the functioning of mosques," said Dr Laxman Sharma Wahid, a medical practitioner and an Urdu poet. Many scholars and clerics maintained that the Prophet birthday celebrations should be used to take his message of love and care to all. "If the Prophet asked Muslims to take care of neighbours, they can be of any faith. His message was universal and it is our duty to take it to others," said spiritual leader Maulana Moin Ashraf Qadri (Moin Mian). Led by Islam Gymkhana president Yusuf Abrahni, the 12-day 'Prophet for All' campaign, said team member Farid Khan, comprises several activities, including Masjid Parichay, gifts and meals with non-Muslim friends and civic workers, blood donation drive, visit to orphanages and old-age homes, food and fruit distribution at hospitals and lawyers and doctors' conference. The 'Masjid Parichay' programme at the Hindustani Masjid was more significant because of the mosque's widely appreciated move a couple of years ago. On August 29, 2017, Mumbai faced one of the biggest deluge in the city's history.. Thousands of train and bus commuters got stranded as rains flooded roads and tracks. "Hindustani Masjid took the lead and opened its doors for people of different faiths who were stranded at the nearby Byculla railway station. Men took shelter on the mosque's first floor while women were accommodated on the second floor. They were provided food, water and tea and this was covered widely in the media," recalled Aamir Edresy, another member of the ''Prophet for All' campaign. For visitors like Madhav Barve, Hukumchand Kothari and Machhindra Sonawane, it was a reaffirmation of a belief that there should be no ban on entry of people of other faiths to these sacred spaces. "I remember once a Muslim friend invited me to a mosque as he offered prayers and I waited," said Kothari, a retired engineer from the agriculture department. "Khuda (God) does not discriminate against human beings. We must break the artificial walls we have created among ourselves." On Krishna Janmashtami, Saini announces grants for cattle welfare in Haryana
Kurukshetra: Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said his govt was committed to cow protection and gaushala development. Participating in an event held under the Gaushala Fodder Grant Distribution Programme at a private institution in Kurukshetra on Krishna Janmashtami , Saini expressed happiness on being among the devotees of mother cow and extended his greetings to all the cattle rearers and gaushala managers. "The greatness of the cow has been extensively described in our Vedas. Immediately after our govt was formed, we passed the Cow Protection Bill in the state assembly to strengthen this tradition," said the CM. Announcing new initiatives, Saini said Rs 1.80 crore had been allocated to 19 gaushalas in Kurukshetra district for fodder, while a total of Rs 88.50 crore would be distributed across Haryana's gaushalas this year. So far, the state govt has already released Rs 358.50 crore for cow fodder support. Highlighting Haryana's progress in the field, the CM informed that over the last decade, 686 gaushalas were registered in the state, housing and nurturing more than four lakh stray cattle. To modernise gaushalas, solar energy plants were installed in 330 gaushalas, and the process is underway to cover the remaining ones. Additionally, 800 e-rickshaws are being procured to support gaushala operations, and electricity is being provided at a subsidised rate of Rs 2 per unit, he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? The govt has also released Rs 8 crore for village cattle sanctuaries. I am happy to share that work related to building of sheds has already been completed in 51 gaushalas, and funds were disbursed accordingly, said Saini. Recognising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's contribution, the CM praised the implementation of the National Gokul Mission, aimed at preserving and promoting indigenous cow breeds. Under this scheme, Haryana extended Rs 6.50 crore in grants to 101 gaushalas for essential machinery, he said. Saini further said: "Our govt has taken historic steps to promote gaushala development and protect our cattle heritage, ensuring that Haryana continues to lead in cow welfare and preservation." Reduction in fees (BOX) CM Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said the state govt stood firmly with the traders, who worked tirelessly for Haryana's development, and assured that all the issues concerning the traders' community would be resolved on priority. Responding to the traders' demands, Saini announced that the one-time fee on binola machines (oil extractor and oil-cake fodder making machine) was reduced from Rs 42,000 to Rs 21,000. The CM made the announcement while interacting with members of the Haryana Oil Mills Association at the Multi Art Culture Centre in Kurukshetra.
