More than 55,000 Palestinians have died in the Israel-Hamas conflict, according to Gaza health authorities. Local hospitals said that at least 21 people were killed on their way to provide aid at distribution centres.
The cause of death for victims near the site are unclear, but the Israeli army said on Wednesday that it fired warning shots at "suspects" that posed a threat to troops.
The numbers by the Gaza Health Ministry doesn't distinguish between civilians and combatants, and they said that women and children make up more than half the 55,000 dead.
The war, which erupted on 7 Oct 2023 after a surprise Hamas attack, continues unabated despite international calls for a ceasefire. Israel's military maintains that operations are targeting militants, and blamed them for hiding among civilians.

Trade talks between the US and China aimed at cooling tensions have ended in a deal, said US President Donald Trump.
He shared that China will supply US companies with magnets and rare earth metals while the US will walk back its threats to revoke visas of Chinese students.
"Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval from President Xi and me," wrote Trump on Truth Social.
The talks were held over two days in London, starting from Monday (9 June) to address the conflicts that had emerged since the truce between both parties started in May. Details about the new agreement with China are limited, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying that Trump is reviewing it.
"But what the president heard, he liked," she added.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who was testifying before Congress on Wednesday, said the talks were more narrowly focused and a comprehensive deal will require more time to flesh out.

However, such differences are common considering the differences in sensitivity and detector locations.
Buildings in Taipei shook for about a minute, and there were no immediate reports of damage.
A firefighter in Chenggong told AFP that when the quake hit, "the computer screen and fan shook heavily". He added, "It was much stronger than previous quakes. I immediately thought about running outside."

The Jetstar Asia closure has left some customers confused and frustrated over conflicting information, or a lack thereof.
The Singapore-based airlines, operated by Qantas Group, announced on Wednesday (11 June) morning that it would be ceasing operations from 31 July. They added that Jetstar Asia flights would be operating with a "progressively reduced schedule". For a customer identified as Daniel, he told CNA that he didn't realise the schedule would be "progressively reduced" prior to its closure.
Hence, he thought his two planned trips in July – one to Bangkok, another to Okinawa - would not be affected.
On Wednesday morning, though, he received an email confirming that his trip to Bangkok was cancelled, so he made plans to book another flight. Daniel said the email also included his "specific booking reference".
Yet, when his friend called the Jetstar Asia's hotline, they were told the flight was still going ahead as planned.
He now feels uncertain about his flight to Okinawa and it's not clear which flights would be cut from Jetstar Asia's schedule before it closes.
'I'm wondering, when would they tell me about it? Or how late would they tell me about it?'

Japanese star convicted of indecent assault in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong court on Wednesday found J-pop artist Kenshin Kamimura guilty of indecent assault after he harassed a woman working as his interpreter at a restaurant earlier this year. Kamimura, 26, is a former member of the boy band ONE N'ONLY, which expelled him shortly after the allegation. Fans queued to get into court for hours before the hearing, and some broke down in tears upon learning Kamimura had been convicted. The court heard Kamimura touched the woman's thighs multiple times despite her objections, and invited her to go to the bathroom with him. Magistrate Peter Yu found he had assaulted her, adding his behaviour "clearly shows disrespect for women". The incident took place in March during a celebratory dinner, after a fan meet for which the woman had been working as an interpreter for Kamimura and others. The Japanese star was fined HK$15,000 ($1,900). Kamimura, who is also known as an actor in the Japanese drama "Our Youth", hugged his court translator upon hearing he would be fined without facing jail time, media reports said. Kamimura got "what he deserved", Yu said, adding that "had the victim not refused to remain silent and courageously come forward, she would have suffered an unpleasant experience in silence". But ardent fans inside and outside the court were in tears. Chan, a 30-year-old screenwriter and fan who gave only her last name, said she had come from northern China to watch the court session. She told AFP before the verdict that the trial has had a negative impact on Kamimura's image, and had incited "public outbursts of vitriol against the artist". twa/reb/rsc

A Voyage Through Time: 1920's French Linguist Returns to Hainan
HAIKOU, China, Aug. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A report from Hainan International Media Center: In 1925, French linguist François-Marie Savina embarked on an ethnographic journey through Hainan, documenting the island's local Li culture in his seminal work Monographie de Hainan. A century later, AI revives his digital avatar for a cross-cultural dialogue with a modern Li Brocade designer, and an unprecedented cultural experiment is born. A Voyage Through Time debuts online Aug. 8, 2025. The short film A Voyage Through Time: Savina's Hainan Island Monograph redefines digital humanities by blending archival rigor with artistic narration. 'The video stages a fictional encounter between Savina and contemporary Li Brocade designer who weaves Li brocade motifs into futuristic fashion,' said the film's scriptwriter. Using historic photographs of Hainan, the Chinese production team revive authentic 1920s Hainan landscapes. With a MoE (Mixture-of-Experts) model serving as a key technical and artistic solution, the film captures the physical appearance of an oil painting, while maintaining the accuracy and consistency of the historic scenes and human figures, including faces, facial expressions, hands, and clothes. 'As Hainan is bidding for the Hainan Tropical Rainforest and Traditional Settlements of the Li Ethnic Group to be included on UNESCO's World Heritage List, we wanted to 'paint' every stroke to honor both Savina's legacy and Li cultural creativity.' explains the film's director. In 2022, the Hainan Tropical Rainforest and Traditional Settlements of the Li Ethnic Group was placed on UNESCO's tentative list for World Heritage sites—the first formal step toward nomination. A legal framework for protecting Li traditional settlements took effect in the following year, giving the centuries-old villages legal protection. Max Zhang shares experience of a brush with death
13 Aug - Max Zhang (aka Zhang Jin) recently revealed that he had suffered a heart attack back in April this year, an experience that was both harrowing and revealing to him. In a recent appearance on a Chinese variety show, the martial arts actor said that the incident occurred while he was traveling abroad with actress wife Ada Choi and their three kids. "I felt pain, difficulty breathing, and was covered in cold sweats. My wife was waiting in line to board the Duck Tour boat. She was about ten metres away from me. I was speechless because I felt like there was an abyss and I was falling, with no one to turn to," Max said. The actor said that the first thing he thought about was that he can't die there and leave Ada having to deal with it and to manage their children on her own. "I can't describe the feeling. I felt like I would be gone if I closed my eyes, so I just kept holding on, not wanting to collapse there. When I went back to Hong Kong for a checkup, and the doctor said, 'You could have died there.'" Max said that it was his first time having a near-death experience and that it had since changed his focus on life. He had since become more appreciative and cherished his time with his family.
