The Beach Boys' ‘Pet Sounds' Hits Highest Rank on Billboard 200 in Nearly 60 Years After Brian Wilson's Death
Following the death of The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson at age 82 on June 11, the group's catalog surged 184% in equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending June 12, growing to 31,000, according to Luminate. Plus, the act's classic 1966 album Pet Sounds reenters the Billboard 200 chart — and at its highest rank in nearly 60 years.
Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

On the Billboard 200, Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys, released in 2003, jumps 180-52 (15,500 units; up 71%) and Pet Sounds reenters at No. 136 (11,000; up 1,335%). For the latter, it returns to the chart for the first time since July 2015, and to its highest rank since Feb. 18, 1968, when it ranked at No. 110. It peaked at No. 10 in 1966 and is one of 13 top 10 albums for the group.
Overall on-demand official streams of the group's songs increased by 126% to 26.7 million, while their collected songs sold 19,000 (up 1,132%). The act's most-streamed song of the week was 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' (2.28 million; up 78%), while the top-selling song was 'God Only Knows' (4,000; up 3,382%). On the Digital Song Sales chart dated June 21, 'God Only Knows' debuts at No. 7, while 'Wouldn't It Be Nice,' the second-biggest-selling Beach Boys song of the week, debuts at No. 18.
'Woudn't It Be Nice' reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966, while its follow-up single, 'God Only Knows,' hit No. 39 later that same year. Both are from Pet Sounds. In total, The Beach Boys boast 35 top 40-charted hits on the Hot 100.
The Beach Boys' catalog also makes waves on the LyricFind U.S. and Global charts, where 'God Only Knows' bows at No. 1. The LyricFind Global and LyricFind U.S. charts rank the fastest momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages globally and in the U.S., respectively, provided by LyricFind. The Global chart includes queries from all countries, including the U.S. The company is the world's leader in licensed lyrics, with data provided by more than 5,000 publishers and utilized by more than 100 services, including Amazon, Pandora, Deezer, Microsoft, SoundHound and iHeartRadio.
According to LyricFind, lyric searches and usages of 'God Only Knows' jumped 1,238% in the U.S. and 1,519 globally week over week (June 9-15 vs. June 2-8).
The U.S. chart features five Wilson-penned songs in all, with 'God Only Knows' followed by 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' (No. 2), 'Don't Worry Baby' (No. 4), 'Sloop John B' (No. 7) and 'Good Vibrations' (No. 9).
Further increases for The Beach Boys catalog could occur in the tracking week ending June 19 (Luminate's tracking week runs Friday through Thursday each week), after a full week of impact is felt following Wilson's passing.

Josh Gad Teases ‘Spaceballs 2' As a "Celebration" of Mel Brooks

It occurred more than three decades ago during his first viewing of the Mel Brooks comedy classic, Young Frankenstein — particularly the iconic 'Puttin On the Ritz' sequence between Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) and his monstrous creation (Peter Boyle). 'That euphoria I felt, that joy I felt for this crazy form of comedy that is so unique,' Gad (Frozen, The Book of Mormon) says over Zoom while discussing his new partnership with Amazon Kindle Kids. 'It is neither a spoof nor a parody, but uses all of those elements and somehow becomes as authentic to the said genre as any of the other movies. Meaning, I think you can put Young Frankenstein up there with the greatest monster movies. I think you can put Blazing Saddles up there with the greatest Westerns. It's not just a parody. It's a living, breathing monster movie. It's a living, breathing Western." Gad, who proudly describes himself as 'a student of Mel Brooks' is currently working alongside the master to realize the long-awaited sequel to Spaceballs. Currently slated for an exclusive theatrical debut sometime in 2027, the film will be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar). 'With Spaceballs, Mel will tell you the actual story was not inspired by Star Wars, but by It Happened One Night,' explains Gad, who co-wrote the script with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. The inclusion of Moranis is a massive get for the project, considering how the actor retired from Hollywood years ago to raise a family after his wife passed. Just as impressive is Brooks stepping back into the shoes of Yogurt (his merchandising Yoda spoof), just a year away from his hundredth birthday. The man's still got it! Fresh faces to the goofy galaxy far, far away include Keke Palmer (Nope) and Pullman's own son, Lewis (Thunderbolts*). In addition, distributor Amazon MGM Studios released a teaser trailer that poked fun at just how massive the Star Wars universe — and, by extension, Hollywood's obsession with mining IP — has become since 1987. 'I can't say much. What I can tell you is [that] if you love Mel Brooks, I think you're gonna love this movie,' promises Gad. 'It's not only a celebration of Spaceballs, it really is a celebration of Mel and the entirety of his career. We're hyper-aware of the many legacy sequels and, in particular, comedy sequels that have not worked. We have studied those as much as we've studied the great movies, just to understand why certain things don't work and really commit to (hopefully) surprising audience with the expectation of, 'Oh, my God! This is so much better than I thought it would be!' At the end of the day, I think that's the goal we all have in mind and so far, we're feeling good about that. We're feeling really good.' As our Zoom call winds to a close, I probe the actor for an update on the next chapter in Disney's Frozen franchise, whose third entry will also hit theaters in 2027. Echoing comments recently made by Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Mouse House animation, Gad (one again voicing the happy-go-lucky snowman, Olaf) confirms that Frozen 3 is the first part of a larger story spread across two movies. 'They're keeping us in the dark so much, because I'm sure that they are so afraid one of us will spill the beans in an interview like this,' Gad concludes. 'So thankfully, I can't tell you anything, because I literally can't tell you anything. But what I can say is, with the limited things I know and what I've seen, I am so excited. You never want to do a sequel if it doesn't have a reason to exist and this is one of those movies that is taking the amount of time it's taking because [director Jennifer Lee] and company organically found not only a story worth telling, but a story worth telling in two parts. It's so ambitious, so fun, and so unbelievably exciting, [that] I think it's gonna be worth the wait."

If You Didn't Know The MCU's ‘Ironheart' Was Out Today, Who Can Blame You?
Ironheart Marvel I'm genuinely not sure I've seen a Disney Plus MCU entry released with such little fanfare as Ironheart , at least if we're not counting some completely memory-holed offerings like 2017's Inhumans . Tonight, Disney Plus is dropping Ironheart , its latest MCU production that is limping to release through no fault of its own, with little promotion for a series most people may have forgotten exists, or at least forgotten it's out today. Ironheart has been an odd project from the start. It was championed by Ryan Coogler of Black Panther (and now Sinners ) fame, who put its star, Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, into a supporting role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . But that was back in 2022, and allegedly Ironheart has been finished for a long while now. Williams's character is now a distant memory from her first appearance. Ironheart Marvel Disney Plus is dumping out the series in two three-episode batches, the first of which airs tonight and the second next week. It's not completely a first; it released Echo as a binge drop, but that show had the benefit of a big Kingpin role and even a Daredevil cameo. And it was promoted more than Ironheart has been. Ironheart marketing has consisted mainly of two trailers released somewhat recently, where the biggest point of praise is the return to 'mechanical' Iron Man suits rather than the dreaded nanotech the MCU has used for years now. In the comics, Riri Williams was introduced in 2016 as a high-level genius who manages to construct her own battle armor in the vein of Tony Stark. Ex-Stark Robert Downey Jr. probably had the best bit of promotion for Ironheart when he went out of his way to issue a message to the cast: Producer Ryan Coogler spoke to Deadline about how the blending of magic in tech of the show actually serves to lead into Avengers: Doomsday and the return of Downey Jr, at least thematically: 'It's so crazy to be putting this movie out now, at the time where AI is on the front of everybody's mind, technological ethics are on the front of everybody's mind. But also — we didn't know it was going to be Dr. Doom and the Avengers when we first started, but he's a guy in publishing who's most famous for fusing technology and magic, so it's a great sample of things that are to come in probably what's going to be the biggest movie in Marvel history.' Despite Disney dropping it seemingly to die with close to no real promotion or hype, is Ironheart actually good? Well, we have no sense of that either, given that as I write this, there are zero critic reviews live for the show, meaning either screeners were not given out, or an embargo is going to drop right on top of launch. I'm in no way rooting for this show to fail (and lord knows it's attracted the attention of the hostile 'DEI' crowd already), but the circumstances around its release do not signify a series that's prone to do very well.
