If You Didn't Know The MCU's ‘Ironheart' Was Out Today, Who Can Blame You?

I'm genuinely not sure I've seen a Disney Plus MCU entry released with such little fanfare as Ironheart , at least if we're not counting some completely memory-holed offerings like 2017's Inhumans .
Tonight, Disney Plus is dropping Ironheart , its latest MCU production that is limping to release through no fault of its own, with little promotion for a series most people may have forgotten exists, or at least forgotten it's out today.
Ironheart has been an odd project from the start. It was championed by Ryan Coogler of Black Panther (and now Sinners ) fame, who put its star, Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams, into a supporting role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever . But that was back in 2022, and allegedly Ironheart has been finished for a long while now. Williams's character is now a distant memory from her first appearance.

Disney Plus is dumping out the series in two three-episode batches, the first of which airs tonight and the second next week. It's not completely a first; it released Echo as a binge drop, but that show had the benefit of a big Kingpin role and even a Daredevil cameo. And it was promoted more than Ironheart has been.
Ironheart marketing has consisted mainly of two trailers released somewhat recently, where the biggest point of praise is the return to 'mechanical' Iron Man suits rather than the dreaded nanotech the MCU has used for years now.
In the comics, Riri Williams was introduced in 2016 as a high-level genius who manages to construct her own battle armor in the vein of Tony Stark. Ex-Stark Robert Downey Jr. probably had the best bit of promotion for Ironheart when he went out of his way to issue a message to the cast:
Producer Ryan Coogler spoke to Deadline about how the blending of magic in tech of the show actually serves to lead into Avengers: Doomsday and the return of Downey Jr, at least thematically: 'It's so crazy to be putting this movie out now, at the time where AI is on the front of everybody's mind, technological ethics are on the front of everybody's mind. But also — we didn't know it was going to be Dr. Doom and the Avengers when we first started, but he's a guy in publishing who's most famous for fusing technology and magic, so it's a great sample of things that are to come in probably what's going to be the biggest movie in Marvel history.'
Despite Disney dropping it seemingly to die with close to no real promotion or hype, is Ironheart actually good? Well, we have no sense of that either, given that as I write this, there are zero critic reviews live for the show, meaning either screeners were not given out, or an embargo is going to drop right on top of launch.
I'm in no way rooting for this show to fail (and lord knows it's attracted the attention of the hostile 'DEI' crowd already), but the circumstances around its release do not signify a series that's prone to do very well. Sure, it could surprise us the way Agatha All Along was a bigger hit than anticipated, but this feels different. I hope I'm wrong.

"Ms. Marvel" and "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" are two notable shows that were review bombed before they were released. "Captain Marvel" also suffered a similar fate before its release. Clearly, there are those who are taking umbrage with Marvel releasing a series that is based around the new-age Iron Man. Dominique Thorne returns as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart. Williams made her MCU debut in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" as a student from MIT with the innate ability to create mechanical wonders. Williams creates her own version of the Iron Man armor, but draws the ire of the Talokan people. The Talokan people are led by Namor, who makes it a point to hunt down Thorne and warn the U.S. of allowing the sacred vibranium metal from reaching the outside world. This leads to a war between Wakanda and Talokan. Williams now gets her own miniseries, which details her creating the most advanced version of the Ironheart armor. Thorne has been sharing some wonderful interactions leading up to the release of the new series on June 24. This includes receiving a call from Robert Downey Jr. to not only give his blessing but to heap praise on the new series. TOP GUN 3 Will Put Maverick in a Whole New Kind of Danger with an Existential Crisis — GeekTyrant
After Top Gun: Maverick soared to unexpected heights in 2022, both at the box office and in the hearts of fans, it felt like the story of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell had finally found its landing strip. The sequel hit all the right notes with its high-octane aerial action, a great story, and characters. So, what's left for Top Gun 3 to do? Quite a bit, apparently, and it's not what you might expect. Director Joseph Kosinski is back in the cockpit, and this time he's charting a new kind of flight path. While promoting his upcoming film F1 , Kosinski teased in an interview with GQ the current thinking behind the third Top Gun installment, and the mission ahead may not involve missiles or MiGs, but something far more personal. 'We're thinking much bigger than ... It's a really existential crisis that Maverick has in this, and it's much bigger than himself. It's an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we're talking about.' Kosinski teasing that Maverick will feel 'small' next to what's coming says a lot about the emotional or thematic scope they're aiming for. And while McQuarrie, who co-wrote Maverick, has said he already knows what Top Gun 3 will be, he's playing it just as coy. The only thing we know for sure is that this will be 'one last ride' for Maverick, and Kosinski believes there's still 'more story to tell' for the iconic pilot. The lingering question is whether this story will stick with the Top Gun training program or steer into brand new territory altogether. Given how Maverick already balanced legacy characters with fresh recruits, it's hard to imagine the third film rehashing the classroom setting again. More likely, Maverick will either be called out of retirement for one final mission, or face a challenge that doesn't involve a cockpit at all. Could the enemy this time be time itself? Mortality? Legacy? Kosinski's 'existential' comments makes it sound less about fighting others and more about confronting what's next for a man who's spent his whole life outrunning the ground. Kosinski also joked about Cruise reuniting with F1 star Brad Pitt in a crossover of sorts, saying: 'Right now, it'd be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise's] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and Sonny Hayes [Pitt's character in F1] have a past. They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths ... I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview with a Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn't pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?' Sadly, Pitt reportedly only wants to work with Cruise again 'on the ground', which makes his involvement in Top Gun 3 unlikely unless Maverick trades the flight suit for a racing helmet. Top Gun 3 doesn't have a release date yet, and with Kosinski's F1 scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2025, we may be waiting a bit longer to see how Maverick's next chapter plays out. But if the creative team really does go for something bigger, bolder, and more introspective, this could be more than just another legacy sequel, it might actually be the rare finale that explores what happens when the thrill is gone.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Featurette and Promo Shows Off Some New Footage — GeekTyrant
If you're even a little excited about Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps , this new behind-the-scenes featurette and promo spot is something you'll want to watch prior to tomorrow's big trailer. The featurette is currently screening in AMC Theaters and now making the rounds online gives us our best look yet at the MCU's fresh take on Marvel's First Family. There's a solid chunk of new footage sprinkled throughout the featurette, including shots of the team traversing what appears to be the massive, crumbled hand of Galactus. There's also a fun peek at Ebon Moss-Bachrach in full motion-capture gear as The Thing, offering a glimpse of how this character is being brought to life behind the scenes. AMC Theaters also lists the film's runtime at 115 minutes. While that hasn't been officially confirmed by Marvel, it lines up with previous reports. The producers also opened up about the surprising amount of effort that went into the Fantastic Four's new suits. Executive producers Grant Curtis and Tim Lewis told Kino: "We looked at over 100 shades of blue. It was a long, long process, but when you see it, you say, 'OK, now I understand why we have the right one.' It would have been very easy to choose blue number 12. But it wouldn't have had the same effect." We also get a quick but delightful glimpse of H.E.R.B.I.E., the team's robotic assistant, who seems to be more than just comic relief. Moss-Bachrach explained: "It's kind of an unexpected, beautiful relationship that develops as we shot. This character that the designers and art department created is really charming. "I just try to incorporate little moments with him into scenes. It's great to improvise with this creature. He makes me happy." This new sneak peek is hoping to reassure fans that Marvel is handling Fantastic Four with care, style, and a little heart. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel's First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne have been cast in mystery roles. Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is rumoured to appear, though that's surely a given with Avengers: Doomsday on the way. Director Matt Shakman worked with both Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman and WandaVision 's Cam Squires on The Fantastic Four: First Steps ' screenplay, with Eric Pearson ( Black Widow ) later coming on board for a final polish. The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
