Freddie Flintoff 'so proud' as refugee star of hit BBC show makes cricket debut

Daily Mirror01-05-2025

Stars of the 'Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams' TV show are making strides in cricket and one of the ex-England all-rounder's proteges, Adnan Miakhel, reached a big milestone
Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has spoken of his pride at watching Adnan Miakhel make his debut for Lancashire's second string. Afghan refugee Miakhel, 18, starred in the 'Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams' show and supported the teenager's asylum claim.
Miakhel saw an initial asylum appeal rejected after his appearance on the reality show, which saw former England star Flintoff attempt to build a cricket team consisting of disadvantaged youngsters from his home county of Lancashire. However, Flintoff was among those to back an appeal which eventually saw the youngster given a chance to remain in the UK.

"Finally, maybe [fellow Field of Dreams star] Sean will get a game soon too," Flintoff wrote on social media in response to a photo of Miakhel being presented with his Lancashire 2nd XI cap. "Some journeys are longer and harder I'm so proud of this fine young man."

A number of fans shared their own messages of support in the comments. "Good luck Adnan, a top lad as we're all of the others. A great series," wrote one.
"Proud of you, Freddie! Bet Sean's chuffed too, what a lad," was the reply from a second. "Brilliant. Gives every young player hope and inspiration. Especially if you're not from the elite school background," wrote a third.
Miakhel finished on 25 not out as Lancashire's second string were bowled out for 159 in their first innings. He also took a pair of wickets as Yorkshire's second XI opened up a healthy lead, claiming the wicket of Jonny Tattersall early on and later dismissing Matt Revis after the 23-year-old recorded a century.
"I can't tell how much I'm happy. Today was my Lancashire 2nd XI debut against Yorkshire 2nd XI and I have been given the debut by Lancashire legend Steve Croft sir," Miakhel wrote on social media. "Thank you very much to anyone that helped me and support me in my cricketing journey so far thank you "
Rossall School in Fleetwood, where Miakhel studied with a scholarship, also shared a message congratulating him. "Amazing to see current Y13 and 1XI cricket Captain Adnan M being presented with his 2XI cap as he made his debut against Yorkshire," a social media post read. 'It is fantastic to see all of the hard work Adnan has put in paying off and we wish him all the success in the future with @‌lancscricket.'

The teenager joined a local cricket team with the support of foster parents Barry and Elaine. As part of the second season of the Field of Dreams show, he joined his team-mates and mentor Flintoff on a tour of India.
"It's always been a simple dream of mine to play cricket, professionally but I also want to continue with my studies as well," he said back in September. "I'd love to do more filming as well, especially with my Field of Dreams family.
"Since the first series of Field of Dreams, I have always had great feedback all along. The second series, the feedback was even better, really brilliant."

Pregnant Sophie Habboo shows off her blossoming baby bump in a hilarious slogan crop top as she shares series of stylish snaps

Pregnant Sophie Habboo proudly showcased her blossoming baby bump in a series of Instagram snaps shared on Friday. The former Made in Chelsea star, 30, flaunted her growing bump in a white crop top with the slogan 'Too Old For [Leonardo] DiCaprio ' printed on it as she posed for a mirror selfie. She also shared a stunning shot of herself in a white dress as she strolled through the streets of London while holding a iced coffee and her phone. Sophie also posted behind-the-scenes glimpses from the recording studio and a visit to the hairdresser as she documented the early days of her pregnancy. She wrapped up her photo dump with a fun picture of her husband, Jamie Laing, enjoying an ice cream, along with some delicious food she recently indulged in. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Sophie revealed earlier this week on her and Jamie's newly named podcast NearlyParents, that she has struggled with some aspects of her pregnancy. She confessed that when her second trimester hit, she felt like she was 'dying' and was dealing with a lot of hormones that made her frequently feel irritated. 'This girl has gone from a bit of a b***h to don't come near me,' she quipped. 'Up until week eight, I was smooth sailing. No good aversions, no sickness, so much energy, I was like what is every talking about this is unbelievable. 'Week eight hit and everyone's starting to grate to me a bit. Like that man sat next to me on the plane breathing, like is it illegal if I punch him in the face? 'If you're a fan of the podcast, I love you so much but you're not going to like me if you meet me at the moment.' Jamie said he struggled to get his head around Sophie's mood changes with pregnancy, recalling: 'I asked Sophie if she had any cravings and she said, ''No, the only craving I have is hating you''. 'I then spent an evening on Reddit looking at "Why does your wife hate her husband so much when they're pregnant". He went on: 'Sophie is teaching me to drive and I'm a little bit nervous in the car and she goes "You're a s**t driver". I'm literally in my head going "Oh my god she's hasn't eaten this is really scary". 'Sophie then gets so angry she says to me "I'm so angry I want to drive us both into the back of this car and kill us". And then she started crying!' Sophie confessed that the 'anger is uncontrollable' but that it 'was very fleeting' as she lamented how her 'enormous t*ts' also meant she couldn't fit in any of her clothes. Jamie candidly told listeners how he owed her a real apology after not taking her hormones seriously and threatening to leave her over her 'grumpiness'. Sophie said: 'Jamie was like "Oh you're just milking it, you fake all your hormones, there's no such thing". He went "Oh you're just faking all of this." I was like "Oh my god" as I'm lying there with my enormous t*ts out and I can't fit into a single thing.' Recalling the incident in question, she went on: 'We are leaving and I feel really sick this day and Jamie gets his camera out and goes "I'm going to vlog today". Like on my Sunday that I'm about to vomit all day long. 'And what happened was Jamie sits down and he goes "I'm going to call my friends and ask them what I should do about this. Because I'm going to have to leave you. I'm going to leave you because you're just so unbearable right now."' Jokingly pretending to break down in tears, she shared: 'And I went "You're going to leave me and I'm pregnant".' It comes after the couple took to their podcast to tell their fans all about their impeding parenthood for the first time, where Sophie revealed some of the struggles she'd been dealing with in her pregnancy In defence of his actions, Jamie quickly added: 'The amount of people who are going to call me an a*****e. Just a caveat to add - I had no idea the emotional journey that you go on, how your body changes. 'I just didn't understand the extreme things that go on and since having read stuff on Instagram, I am awe of what you go through. The hormone change is wild.' Showing their Chelsea roots, the couple also revealed that Sophie's worst craving so far was for caviar, recounting how they had dashed round London trying to find a shop that was open at 8pm. Jamie explained they eventually found a caviar store only to discover a single pot cost £240, as he declared: 'I was like "Well that craving has to stop there and then". Sophie revealed that after some Googling, she learned it is recommended that pregnant people avoid the expensive delicacy due to the risks of bacteria and mercury. However, she confessed that the risks were the only thing that stopped her eating it, otherwise would not have allowed the hefty price tag to put her off.

Moment Tube driver is caught KNITTING and watching videos on his phone while driving commuters

An easy-going tube driver was caught knitting and watching videos on his phone as he drove commuters around one of the busiest transport networks in the world. Striking footage shows the London Underground operative hard at work on a lion-themed garment as he pulls slowly out of Hendon Central Station in February 2025. The man's phone is also positioned comfortably in front of him so he can watch videos at his leisure. A witness who filmed the spectacle - which took place on a Northern Line train - commented disapprovingly, 'look at him... watching TV, pressing a couple of buttons'. He went on to reference the money the driver earns each year and claimed he can go on strike 'whenever he wants'. The witness later recalled: 'I was so surprised. 'I didn't expect to see someone meant to be at work being so casual about the job. 'Especially because at the time, there were tube strikes going on so it felt mad they were complaining about the job then relaxing on it. The man's phone is also positioned comfortably in front of him so he can watch videos at his leisure 'And, although I don't know how automatic the system is for the tubes, I remember thinking that this person has the passengers' lives in their hands. 'It felt crazy that this driver wouldn't take that more seriously.' Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed the driver in the video was sacked from his job. A spokesman said: 'This video was made earlier in the year. 'We carried out a full investigation and the person involved no longer works at TfL.' Many social media users have taken to TikTok to share their thoughts on the video. One person said: 'He's risking his career for a bit of TV.' Another added: 'The driver shouldn't be doing that, they should be focussing - that's dangerous.' But a number of people offered their support to the tube worker amid the criticism. Someone said: 'What do you want him to be doing? Steering?'
