New off-grid adventure for stag and hen celebrations launched in Perthshire
A unique new take on stag and hen celebrations has launched in Highland Perthshire. Brides and grooms-to-be are being offered the chance to do things a bit differently with their closest friends.
Singletrack to the Aisle, the latest offering from Comrie Croft Journeys, gives nearlyweds the chance to swap late nights for wild trails and campfire chats. Bar crawls are swapped for bikepacking adventures across some of Scotland's most scenic landscapes.
Based just 90 minutes from Glasgow and Edinburgh, the experience offers a relaxed, off-grid celebration in nature, complete with mountain bikes, e-bikes, and plenty of fresh air.
'We wanted to create something that felt genuinely special, an alternative to the usual stag and hen formula that's all about fresh air, freedom and fun,' said Emily Greaves, mountain biking coach and trip leader at Comrie Croft.
Packages are tailored for all abilities and can be chilled or challenging, from wild camping under the stars to cosy bunkhouse stays. Riders can choose a self-guided route using a GPX file or opt for a fully guided journey through Perthshire's glens and hills.
Add-ons include picnics, wild swimming stops, pub lunches, and whisky tastings by the fire - so it's not like it's a completely booze-free experience. And groups can even enjoy a sauna to end the trip on a high.
Greaves said: 'It's a chance to do something memorable together: maybe it's riding, maybe it's cooking over a fire, or maybe it's just waking up somewhere wild."
Each trip includes route planning, bike and luggage hire, overnight kit and accommodation. Guests can bring their own gear or use what's provided, and take home a personalised route map and trip name as a keepsake.
To add a playful touch, each guest receives a 'stag or hen survival kit' filled with locally roasted coffee, a dram of local whisky, a stargazing chart and classic campfire games.
The launch comes as younger generations move away from alcohol-fuelled celebrations. A recent study by the Night-Time Industries Association and CGA by NIQ found that 54 per cent of hospitality leaders had seen a year-on-year drop in trade from stag and hen groups.
Meanwhile, YouGov data shows a decline in alcohol consumption, with just 72 per cent of UK adults saying they drink, down from 78 per cent in August 2024. Among 18 to 24-year-olds, 39 per cent now abstain altogether.
Greaves has noticed the shift too, saying: 'More people are looking to make memories that aren't centred around alcohol.

Whales wash up on Japan's shores after 8.7 magnitude earthquake triggers tsunami
Russia, Hawaii, Alaska and America are also all in danger after the cataclysmic event struck in the early hours of the morning. Whales have washed ashore in Japan after one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded. The 8.7-magnitude tremor struck in the early hours of this morning. The quake occurred near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, resulting in a tsunami which has already struck parts of Hawaii, Japan's northern island of Hokkaido and Russia's Kuril Islands. A tsunami watch is also in place for Alaska and the Pacific Coast of the US while the Philippines is also in the line of fire, The Mirror reports. Footage from Japan has now emerged showing four whales washing ashore in Tateyama City, in Chiba. It was broadcast on live TV in the country, with the first tsunami waves hitting the city of Hokkaido at 10.40am local time (2.40am BST). Whales can come ashore during tsunamis due to the rapid and dramatic changes in water levels and currents near the coast. When waves approach shore, water initially pulls back from the coast at a rapid pace which can strand whales near the beach. Nearly two million people in Japan have been asked to evacuate to safer ground this morning, with the majority of evacuees coming from Hokkaido, Kanagawa and Wakayama prefectures. When the first waves struck Hokkaido, the northernmost island in Japan, footage from Reuters and the Nippon News Network showed residents sheltering on roofs. On Wednesday morning, tsunami sirens sounded in certain areas of the island. A warning sent out on phones read: "Damage due to tsunami waves is expected. Evacuate immediately from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safer place such as high ground or an evacuation building. "Tsunami waves are expected to hit repeatedly. Do not leave safe ground until the warning is lifted." Meanwhile, streets are in gridlock in Hawaii as residents try to evacuate to higher ground. Pictures show long queues at petrol stations near downtown Honolulu. Flights into the holiday destination have now been cancelled as the earthquake continues to wreak havoc across the world. US President Donald Trump warned residents on X to evacuate, writing: "Due to a massive earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean, a Tsunami Warning is in effect for those living in Hawaii. "A Tsunami Watch is in effect for Alaska and the Pacific Coast of the United States. Japan is also in the way. Please visit for the latest information. "STAY STRONG AND STAY SAFE!" Parts of South America, including Mexico, Chile and Ecuador, are also at risk according to various tsunami warning systems. The earthquake is the largest recorded since 2011, when a 9-9.1 magnitude earthquake killed more than 19,000 people across Japan with tsunami waves reaching heights of 40 metres.

The five-star property is described as a traditional Scottish baronial mansion, set across 1,400 acres of coastal land. It features 19 luxury guest rooms, Italian marble staircases, traditional fireplaces, intimate dining and bar areas, a whisky bar, outdoor hot tub, spa facilities and hidden staircases. Personal butler service is available. The hotel is open for exclusive hire, weddings, corporate events or individual bookings. Prices for a house or lodge room in the week beginning Sunday, August 18, start from £628, depending on length of stay and availability. How to book tee times Golfers can book tee times on the property's two courses starting August 13. Prices are set at £495 per person per round. A 'Greatest 36' option, combining both courses, is available until October 31. Tee times are being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis during the opening months, and multiple levels of club membership are offered, though prices have not been disclosed. Golf packages and pricing For those looking to combine luxury stays with golf, a number of packages are now on offer. A two-night package, which includes two rounds of golf (one on each course), a welcome dinner, breakfast, and a dram of whisky, is priced at £2,500 per person or £4,000 for two people sharing.
