Scottish dad who killed his own children in 'revenge plot' against wife denied parole
Killer Rab Thomson, who killed his own to children in their family home after his marriage broke down, has been denied parole.
The sick dad stabbed his disabled daughter Michelle, who was 25-years-old at the time, and his seven-year-old son Ryan, to death. The 67-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the crimes, which he committed in 2008.
His former wife, June, plead with the parole board to deny him his freedom. Her calls were echoed by others in the community, with MP for Glenrothes and Mid Fife Richard Baker now confirming he has not been given parole after writing to the authorities.
He said: "Rab Thomson, who killed his son, seven, and disabled daughter in Buckhaven in 2008, has been denied parole.
"My wife, Claire Baker MSP and I, who wrote to the board seeking this outcome, welcome the decision. I'm sure many people in Levenmouth will feel the same."
Thomson is believed to have murdered his children out of cruel revenge on his estranged wife June who left him after 27-years of beatings and rape. In his first official access visit, after June finally plucked up the courage to leave him, he stabbed Ryan 14 times as the little boy played a computer game at the family home in Buckhaven, Fife, on May 3, 2008.
He then turned the knife on Michelle, stabbing her 12 times as she fought for her life, leaving her bedroom like a bloodbath. After murdering his children, Thomson placed each child in bed and posed their bodies like little angels for his wife to find.
Detective Inspector Graham Fenton, one of the detectives in charge of the investigation, said the killer traumatised his family for years. He previously said: "June had been the victim of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

"None of this was reported to the police, however many victims of domestic violence often suffer in silence."
He added: "When Thomson came into our custody, he was very matter of fact.
"He showed no remorse. In fact, he never asked for his children once. At one stage during the interview, he even refused to sit on the chair in the room. He actually lay on the floor. It appeared to me that this was Thomson trying to exert control over a situation that wasn't his."

Last year, a documentary called Britain's Darkest Taboos, that covered the murders showed how Thomson exerted control over his terrified family. Dr Keri Nixon, a leading criminologist told if how Thomson cracked because his image as the perfect family man was destroyed by his split from his wife June.
In film, taken at Christmas 2002 when youngest victim Ryan was not yet two, Thomson's wife June, 54, is heard begging her husband to stop filming but he persists. Dr Nixon said: "He wanted to present a perfect life to the outside world.
"He liked to be respected, he liked to be admired. His wife leaving him was not part of that image. Because he was losing everything, his way of dealing with it was to destroy it."

Australian man in court after Stone of Destiny glass 'broken' at Scottish museum
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Get the latest Edinburgh Live breaking news on WhatsApp A man arrested for allegedly damaging the glass which protects the Stone of Destiny has been remanded in custody. Perth Museum was evacuated amid claims a man in a kilt tried to smash through a display case that houses the stone - which used to be displayed in Edinburgh Castle - on Saturday, July 12, reports the Daily Record. A 35-year-old man was detained by police and taken in to custody. Arnaud Harixcalde Logan appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday, July 14. Logan faced a single charge of malicious mischief - intentionally damaging property - during the private hearing. The 35-year-old, whose address was given on court papers as Sydney, Australia, made no plea to the charge. He was remanded in custody and the case against him was continued for prosecutors to investigate further. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox No future court dates have been set, but he is expected to appear in the dock again next week in connection with the case. Visitors to the attraction said the alleged incident was "like something out of a historical drama or an action film". Museum tours were brought to an end as the building was evacuated and then stormed by police officers. Perth Museum said the historic stone, used in the coronation of Scottish kings for hundreds of years, was not damaged. Police Scotland also confirmed nobody was injured in the incident. Tourist Elle Alvarez, visiting Scotland from the Philippines, posted a video of the incident on Facebook. She said: "It's honestly surreal, like something out of a historical drama or an action film. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish our tour because of the incident. "Huge credit to the staff at Perth Museum for handling the situation with such calm and professionalism, making sure all visitors were safe and looked after." The 150kg object, also known as the Stone of Scone, was taken from Scotland during the Wars of Independence. It was lodged in King Edward's carved-oak coronation throne at Westminster Abbey where it remained for 700 years. Over Christmas in 1950, four Glasgow University students notoriously managed to steal the stone from the Abbey and temporarily return it to Scotland. The stone returned for permanent display in Scotland in 1996 at Edinburgh Castle, before being moved to its current home in Perth last year, 2024. A spokesperson for Culture Perth and Kinross said: "We can confirm there was an incident at Perth Museum where a man was arrested. "Perth Museum was evacuated as a precaution and there was no damage to any artefacts on display. We are assisting Police Scotland with their inquiries."

Edinburgh man supplied fireworks to Bonfire Night gangs who attacked police
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A Bonfire Night yob who supplied fireworks to youths who used them to attack police officers has been warned if he breaches a court order he will be 'going directly to prison'. Jordan McMillan provided the explosive projectiles that were then thrown at officers and members of the public during a night of chaos in Edinburgh in November last year. The mass disorder saw gangs of hooligans set fire to roads, play parks, wheelie bins and cars in several areas across the capital including Niddrie, Gracemount and Sighthill. Thugs wearing balaclavas were also filmed launching rockets at moving vehicles and the violence brought the city's streets to a standstill as riot cops were forced to close off roads from the public. McMillan, 24, was convicted of culpable and reckless conduct following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and was back in the dock for sentencing on Monday, July 14. McMillan denied any involvement claiming he was within his garden at the time of the incident. The charge was aggravated by attacking emergency service workers under Section 44 of the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022. Sheriff Joseph Stewart told McMillan, of Niddrie, Edinburgh, he had carried out 'a very serious offence' but stopped short of imposing a jail term. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Sheriff Stewart said: 'First of all, I think the custody threshold is easily met here. "This is a very serous offence and with your record Mr McMillan I could very easily send you to prison today for a considerable period. 'If you breach this order you will be going directly to prison, do you understand that?' McMillan was sentenced to a 10 month restriction of liberty order where he will have to stay within his home address between 7pm and 6am. Following last month's trial, Chief Superintendent David Robertson, Divisional Commander for Edinburgh, said: 'This conviction should send a very clear message that the reckless and dangerous behaviour we witnessed across Edinburgh last year will not be tolerated. "Police officers and other emergency service workers do not come to work to be attacked, and the level of violence directed towards them during Halloween and Bonfire Night was wholly unacceptable. 'Jordan McMillan did not act in isolation and is only one of several individuals responsible for the offences we saw on Niddrie Mains Road during the evening of 5 November 2024. 'Further positive court outcomes for those involved in disorder during 2024 are anticipated and we are currently working with key partners ahead of Bonfire Night 2025 to protect our communities from this reckless and dangerous behaviour, which simply has to stop.' McMillan was found guilty of culpably and recklessly supplying fireworks to individuals who were involved in public disorder and who were throwing fireworks at police officers and members of the public and into the roadway to the danger of severe injury at Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh, on November 5 last year. He was also acquitted of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and did form part of a large group who were walking and brandishing fireworks in the same date.
