John Daly is one of the headliners at this upcoming PGA Tour Champions event
Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship, and he has one Champions Tour title on his resume – a victory at the 2017 Insperity Invitational.
In Sioux Falls, Daly will compete with a field that also includes Angel Cabrera, the winner of the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters, and Ken Duke, who has posted three top-12 finishes at the Sanford International, a July 9 news release from Sanford Health says.
Daly, 59, did not play in the 2025 PGA Championship, held at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina, citing a scheduling conflict with another tournament. He struggled in four Champions Tour starts this season after returning from hand surgery, USA TODAY reported in May.

Captain's picks have been introduced, but the rule was left in place for a playing captain. Bradley would have to win the BMW Championship for any chance at the six automatic spots, but there's that small issue of whether he should pick himself. Xander Schauffele has told Bradley he needs to bring his clubs to Bethpage Black for the Sept. 26-28 matches. Patrick Cantlay on Tuesday said, 'If I was captain, I'd pick Keegan.' 'I think he's definitely one of the best American players, and his results have shown that,' Cantlay said at Caves Valley. Golf Channel Staff, Bradley has said he would take it up with the assistant captains and the six automatic qualifiers, the same way he would consider other players as picks. He doesn't make his picks until Aug. 27, after the Tour Championship, giving Bradley two weeks of high-end competition. He currently is No. 10 in the standings. As for the automatic six picks, Scottie Scheffler, Schauffele and J.J. Spaun are mathematically secured to make the team. They are followed by Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Harris English, with Justin Thomas just outside the top six.

John Daly II rallies to make match play in 2025 U.S. Amateur at Olympic Club

John Daly II, the son of two-time major winner John Daly, rallied Tuesday at the 2025 U.S. Amateur, shooting 3-under 67 on the Ocean Course to get in the clubhouse at 1-over 141, which is inside the cut line. That means Daly is heading to match play at the biggest amateur championship in the world for the first time. "I got off to — I mean, I missed the fairway on one, made a really good 10–15 footer, and then, I don't know, I just putted really well today," Daly said. "I just hit it in the right spots to miss. I feel like when I did hit bad tee balls, I was fine, and then I just putted insane." His round featured five birdies to only two bogeys, and while his seed won't be set until the end of stroke play Tuesday night, he's likely to have a top-25 seed heading into match play. Daly, playing in the more difficult wave and course Monday, opened in 74 on the Lake Course, but he was seven shots better Tuesday morning. He got into the field thanks to his win in the Southern Amateur last month at Blessings Golf Club in Arkansas. Now he's one of 64 left duking it out for the Havemeyer Trophy. Scottie Scheffler to use Chris Kirk's caddie at BMW Championship
Scottie Scheffler will be without caddie Ted Scott for another week. The world No. 1 will have Mike Cromie, the usual caddie for Chris Kirk, on the bag this week at the BMW Championship, the second of three FedExCup playoff events. Scott returned home to Louisiana last weekend to attend to a family matter. Filling in for the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship was Brad Payne, the PGA Tour chaplain and close personal friend of Scheffler who was also called into looping duty at the 2024 PGA Championship. Scheffler finished one shot out of the playoff in Memphis and retained his position as the No. 1 player in the FedExCup standings. If he remains in that spot following the BMW, he will earn another $5 million bonus. Cromie became available after Kirk made a late bogey during the final round Sunday and finished No. 51 in the points standings, just outside the cutoff for BMW qualification. It is unknown whether Scott will return for next week's season-ending Tour Championship. Scheffler is expected to meet with the media on Wednesday afternoon at Caves Valley.
