Malaysia is rapidly solidifying its position as a regional hub for world-class concerts, sporting events, and business conferences.
This booming sector is injecting billions into the economy and elevating Malaysia's status as a prime destination for event tourism.
In 2023 alone, the surge in the number of concerts and live events generated close to RM1.5 billion in revenue.
With the Malaysian government allocating RM10 million in 2025 to attract global artists, this industry is on a trajectory for sustained growth, drawing both domestic and international event-goers.
Despite the tremendous potential of Malaysia's event economy, a crucial gap has remained – comprehensive protection for event-goers.
Tune Protect Malaysia is stepping up to bridge this gap, setting a new industry benchmark with the launch of Malaysia's first ticket refund protection.
Designed to offer concert and event-goers greater peace of mind, this innovative solution ensures that they are covered should unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending their event.
Bridging the protection gap for event-goers
Historically, event-related insurance in Malaysia has been centred around event organisers, venues, and suppliers primarily focused on event cancellation and liability protection.
While these elements remain crucial, they overlook a fundamental aspect of the overall ecosystem, the event-goers.
Unlike in the US and the UK, where ticket protection insurance is a standard offering, Malaysia and much of Southeast Asia have yet to fully embrace this consumer-centric approach.
At Tune Protect, we saw an opportunity to lead this transformation. Through our partnership with Malaysia's ticketing platforms, we launched Ticket Protect and Ticket Refund Insurance, offering event-goers a financial safety net in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
With tickets for highly anticipated events often costing hundreds, if not thousands, of ringgit, missing out can be both disappointing and financially painful.
While nothing can replace the experience of attending, our insurance helps lessen the burden by providing a refund.
Seamlessly integrated within ticketing platforms, our solution ensures a frictionless experience where with just one click, they are covered.
Beyond concerts and live performances, Tune Protect is also advancing safety for sports enthusiasts.
Our Sports PA Insurance provides financial protection for participants in endurance events such as marathons, reinforcing our commitment to making every event experience safer and more accessible.

Harnessing Malaysia's event tourism boom
The rise of live events extends beyond local entertainment, it is also a key driver of tourism and economic vitality.
In 2024, Malaysia recorded a 24.2% year-on-year growth in tourist arrivals, led by visitors from Singapore, Indonesia, and China.
While this growth is varied, the potential of event tourism remains undeniable, presenting a strategic opportunity to enhance visitors' experiences through tailored insurance solutions.
With government initiatives such as the Concert and Events Malaysia Incentive (CEMI) positioning the country as a global events destination, we recognise the need for forward-thinking solutions that not only support event-goers but also strengthen Malaysia's appeal on the international platform.
Integrating event and travel protection for a seamless experience
Tune Protect's expertise in travel insurance puts us in a unique position to extend protection beyond event tickets.
As a regional player with local insurance partnerships in over 30 markets, we can seamlessly integrate event and travel protection solutions across Southeast Asia.
Some key areas being explored:
Bundling event ticket protection with travel insurance, ensuring complete peace of mind for inbound tourists attending events.
Offering standalone event ticket protection via our airline partners' digital platforms, ensuring seamless accessibility.
Embedding travel insurance within event organisers' or ticketing platforms, providing holistic coverage for both domestic and international attendees.
Partnering with major sports event organisers to enhance safety for participants through specialised Sports PA coverage.
Pioneering a new standard for event protection
At Tune Protect, we are not merely offering insurance, we are shaping the future of event experiences.
By driving innovation and focusing on consumer-centric protection, we are raising the bar for Malaysia's event industry and reinforcing the country's position as event organisers.
The events ecosystem is evolving rapidly, and insurance must evolve with it. Our goal is to create a safer, more resilient events landscape that drives economic growth while offering peace of mind to attendees.
As we continue expanding our reach, we look forward to strengthening Malaysia's position as a premier event destination – not just in Southeast Asia, but on the global stage.

JPJ: ‘SIS' number plates up for auction Aug 15 to mark Selangor Sultan's Silver Jubilee

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today said it will open online bidding from August 15 for a special 'SIS' vehicle registration plate series. It will be held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's reign in 2026. 'The bidding process is subject to the existing terms and conditions set under the JPJeBid System. 'Any successfully bid registration number must be registered to a vehicle within twelve months from the date of the official bidding results letter,' the department said in a statement. JPJ said the 'SIS' index stands for 'Sultan Idris Shah' and honours the ninth Sultan of Selangor, marking the celebration of His Royal Highness' 25 years on the throne next year. The department said the bidding will be conducted via its JPJeBid system and will run from August 15 until 10pm on August 19, with results to be announced on the next day. JPJ added that the online auction is open to all members of the public, in line with JPJ's aim of providing a transparent and accessible platform for the purchase of special registration numbers. 'All are welcome to participate through JPJeBid as a medium to obtain their preferred registration number from the SIS series,' the department said.
