Such opportunities come rarely in an actor's life: Vishal Jethwa on 'Homebound' success, Bollywood journey

Canada News.Net24-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 24 (ANI): Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Homebound' saw the emergence of actor Vishal Jethwa, who gained popularity through his brief yet impactful roles in the television industry. After the breakout success of his latest project 'Homebound', the actor opened up on his journey, fame and future in the Bollywood industry.
Vishal began his career with a memorable role as a young Akbar in the television historical period drama series 'Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap'. His portrayal of Emperor Akbar was widely acclaimed by both the audience and critics.
However, a breakthrough role was much-awaited by the actor in the entertainment industry.
With such ambition in heart, Vishal Jethwa stepped on the pedal of fame after he landed a negative role in Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani 2'. He played the role of a serial killer who appeared to be a little unhinged when basic human emotions were considered.
Vishal's acting skills in the movie shocked cinemagoers in 2019. He captured the attention of viewers, who soon became his fans. However, the film was led by the superstar Rani Mukerji, who is no less than a superstar herself.
Though this film became a domestic hit, the global fame for the actor was yet to come, as his performance was reportedly overshadowed by superstar Rani Mukerji's powerful portrayal of a cop.
After brief roles in movies like 'Tiger 3' and 'IB71', the actor landed a role in Neeraj Ghaywan's 'Homebound' movie, which served as the perfect opportunity for the actor to showcase his work on global platforms after it was nominated in the Un Certain Regard award category at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
'Homebound' also received a nine-minute-long standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
While talking to ANI, Vishal described the breakout success of 'Homebound' and receiving global fame as one of the 'rare opportunities' in an actor's life.
'I don't know what to expect now I do not expect also a lot from anything these days I just hope that whatever things are coming in front of me, I should enjoy it as much as possible and experience it as much as possible because all this is happening for the first time in my life and such opportunity comes very rarely in every actor's life,' said Vishal Jethwa.
The actor further discussed savouring the moment. Vishal doesn't believe in rushing his decisions and has no plans or strategy in place following his breakout success in his career.
'I want to take everything one step at a time, and I want to go there and see what is happening. It's not like that now that I have gone to Cannes, so I have set a benchmark and won't do anything below that. I don't have a lot of planning. I don't have a lot of strategy in my mind. I just want to enjoy it as it is,' added Vishal Jethwa.
The prime motive of Vishal to enter the entertainment industry was to achieve fame. The actor admitted that initially, he thought that it was an impossible dream of his life due to the struggle in the film industry. Cannes came out of the syllabus for him, in a good way.
'All this is a bonus. My one target was to become a little popular. I wanted to be recognised by 5-6 people out of 10, and at that time I thought it was impossible. I thought it was very difficult, and for me it was impossible to perform on television. I tried many times, but I never thought that such things would happen in my life. I never thought that I would go to Cannes,' said Vishal Jethwa.
Vishal Jethwa has been nominated for the Best Actor Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, along with the film being nominated to be screened there. The Film Festival is set to take place from August 14.
The film will also be screened at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. (ANI)

'Saare Jahan Se Accha' trailer: Pratik Gandhi's RAW agent risks it all to stop the 'last World War'

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 4 (ANI): The official trailer for Pratik Gandhi starrer espionage thriller series 'Saare Jahan Se Accha' has been released. Netflix India unveiled the trailer on Monday giving a broader glimpse into the high-octane drama and a possible nuclear conflict that unfolds between India and Pakistan. The trailer opens to show Pratik Gandhi's Vishnu Shankar, a RAW agent being posted to the neighbouring country to bring a stop to Pakistan's nuclear activities. As Vishnu enters deeper into Pakistan's diplomatic affairs, he comes face-to-face with ISI agent Murtaza Mallik (Sunny Hinduja). With every calculated move, Vishnu Shankar's activities also appear to be monitored by the enemies. Besides Gandhi and Hinduja, Tillotama Shome, Kritika Kamra, Rajat Kapoor, and Anup Soni also appear in promising roles. Created by Gaurav Shukla, the Netflix drama promises to bring the 'silent wars' of the intelligence officers, the spies, aka the 'unsung heroes.' 'Set in the volatile 1970s, when a single move could tip the balance of power and trigger a global nuclear war, Saare Jahan Se Accha unfolds as India's R&AW and Pakistan's ISI clash in a deadly game of strategy. Vishnu must outwit ISI agent Murtaza Mallik in a race against time to prevent a major catastrophe,' the official synopsis reads. Speaking about his character, Pratik Gandhi said, 'What drew me in was the intensity beneath the stillness and the emotional toll of being invisible, yet fighting for India,' in a statement. The announcement video was released in July this year, showing Pratik Gandhi's character secretly collecting information for the country's safety. For a spy, every little detail is important. The success or failure of our mission depends on it. Our target is the enemy country and the goal? To enter their backyard and stop them from becoming a nuclear power. We can't afford to miss anything. Morse codes, numbers, phone calls, transactions, dates. This Independence Day, our mission is clear. We have to keep India one step ahead of the enemy,' he said in the video. 'Saare Jahan Se Accha' will be released on August 13 on Netflix. (ANI)

Tom Holland kicks off 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' shooting; a look at Day 1

Los Angeles [US], August 4 (ANI): Tom Holland's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is officially swinging back to the screens. The actor recently took to Instagram to confirm that shooting for the film has begun. Tom Holland shared pictures of himself dressed in the brand new Spidey suit in the BTS moments. He could be seen discussing a sequence with the team while standing on top of what appears to be military-like machinery with a stunt wire attached to his body. 'Spider-Man Brand New Day 1,' the actor wrote in the caption. Fans couldn't hold back their excitement as many took to the comment section and cheered for the latest development. Some even expressed curiosity about Holland's new costume. The makers recently dropped the first-look glimpse of the superhero suit, with a visible raised black webbing against a bright red-and-blue cover. Shortly after, Tom Holland gave fans a clearer look at his Spider-Man costume. 'We ready?' he said in the teaser video as he seems to be on the sets of the film, sporting a more classic Spider-Man ensemble that resembled those of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. 'Brand New Day' marks the fourth instalment in the MCU's Spider-Man franchise, featuring Tom Holland in the titular role. His journey as Peter Parker began with 2017's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and then moved forward with 'Far From Home' and 'No Way Home'. The last film saw Peter Parker's secret identity being revealed to the world when the young hero had to make Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange erase his memories. Fast forward to 'Brand New Day', the film will be based on the same storyline. Plot details have been kept under wraps. Coming to the cast, Holland will be joined by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon alongside the latest addition of Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner aka the Hulk and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, reported Variety. The 'Stranger Things' star Sadie Sink has also joined the cast. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' will release on July 31, 2026. (ANI)
