No Spartans? 5-star SF Jaxon Richardson releases top 10 list without MSU
Jaxon Richardson -- brother and son of former Spartans stars Jase Richardson and Jason Richardson -- cut his list of schools he's considering to 10, with Michigan State not in the fold. The 10 schools Richardson is considering includes Cincinnati, Creighton, Louisville, Miami (FL), Alabama, Michigan, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, USC and Villanova.
Richardson is a five-star prospect with a recruiting rating of 99.15 in 247Sports composite system. He ranks as the No. 7 small forward and No. 20 overall prospect in the class.
Despite being part of Michigan State basketball family royalty, it appears there is no known connection between the Spartans and Richardson. Per 247Sports, he holds offers from more than 20 schools but Michigan State has not formally extended him an offer.
With Richardson cutting his list of schools and no offer from the Spartans, it looks like he will not be joining his family as the next great Michigan State hooper. Let's just hope he doesn't take his talents down the road to that other school in the state of Michigan...

Kalen DeBoer updates status of two injured Alabama starting linemen
According to head coach Kalen DeBoer, a pair of starting Alabama Crimson Tide linemen have missed the program's second consecutive scrimmage of fall camp. Those players are offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and defensive tackle James Smith, both of which are dealing with injuries leading up to Alabama's season opener at Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30, according to DeBoer. DeBoer also recently gave an update on the status of both following the Crimson Tide's scrimmage Saturday, saying of the duo: "Two guys that didn't scrimmage today, Jaeden and James, same as last week," DeBoer said. "James has been working through and building up. Feel good about the progress he's had in the week of practice and with it being live. Needed to hold back there, but he's getting closer by the day." "Jaeden has a concussion, just to tell you what it is, and he's going through the protocol of that and hasn't done anything from a team standpoint. Starting to work back into that protocol, which included being out there today, but not to participate in the scrimmage." A storyline to monitor leading up to Week 1, if Roberts is unavailable for the season opener, then Geno VanDeMark would likely step into the starting role at right guard. If Smith is unavailable, then names such as Jeremiah Beaman and Edric Hill could see increased snaps at defensive tackle. Alabama will open the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 on the road at Florida State. 5 plays that stood out from Dolphins' preseason win vs. Lions
The Miami Dolphins moved their preseason record to 1-0-1 with a 24-17 win from Ford Field over the Detroit Lions. There's plenty of takeaways and overreactions to be had from the Dolphins' second preseason contest of 2025. With the Dolphins' second preseason tilt wrapped up, here are five plays that stood out from the win: Dee Eskridge dances down the sideline Fifth-year receiver Dee Eskridge made a strong case that he should be included on the Dolphins' 53-man roster with his Saturday play. Though it started off rocky with Eskridge fumbling on his first punt return, the 5'9, 190-pound receiver quickly made amends. On the Dolphins' second offensive series, Eskridge hauled in a trio of passes. The Western Michigan alum had catches of 15 and 27 yards to move the chains. Then, Eskridge put on the dance moves and tightroped the sideline to the end zone for an 11-yard, catch-and-run score. Jordan Phillips sacks Hendon Hooker The rookie out of Maryland had himself a nice day. Jordan Phillips notched his first sack and tackle for loss as a Dolphin when he dumped Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker. Phillips finished with four tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a tackle for loss. The 6'3, 305-pound defensive tackle had 'Fins fans buzzing and has Miami hopeful that it might have formed one of the NFL's best defensive lines. Ollie Gordon II bowls over a Lion Ollie Gordon II had a productive day, rushing for 50 yards on 10 totes. The 2025 sixth-round draft pick out of Oklahoma State also had a 14-yard reception on the afternoon. But, it was his 19-yard carry in the third quarter where he bulldozed his way into Lions safety Loren Strickland that got Dolphins fans out of their seats. Gordon could make a serious push to earn some of the carries that lead back De'Von Achane doesn't get. Quinn Ewers finds Theo Wease Jr. twice Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers had a rough preseason debut at the Chicago Bears. But, Ewers really showed some tremendous growth on Saturday. Ewers protected the football and was accurate and decisive in the passing game, completing 11 of 17 passes for 116 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to rookie undrafted wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. There was some buzz about the way the former Texas Longhorn had been performing throughout OTAs and training camp. After a dismal showing in Chicago, this was more like it. Ethan Robinson calls game What a spectacular play to finish out the win. The undrafted rookie cornerback from Minnesota showcased his athleticism and his 42-inch vertical leap as Ethan Robinson leapt to deflect and then snatch the game-sealing interception off Hooker. It iced the win. Did it also ice Robinson's place on the Dolphins' practice squad in 2025? Nebraska football in the mix for four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson
Nebraska football is making a firm push for class of 2027 four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson. This was reported by Rivals' Marcus Benjamin on Friday. Thompson is the No. 101 overall player in the 2027 class, the seventh overall defensive lineman in the class, and the ninth overall player from the state of Florida in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Syracuse are the schools that are standing out most in his recruitment. The Huskers have been in communication with Thompson quite a bit lately. Defensive line coach Terry Bradden has been the primary point of contact for the Huskers. Thompson had 66 tackles and four sacks in 15 games last season, per statistics from The Huskers could benefit from more talented defensive linemen, and Thompson certainly brings a strong skill set. Playing under Bradden could only help him further enhance his game. The program will have to work cut out for them in this recruitment.
