Mr Thurgood said the 12 members of staff who work at the lodge have become "a family", and dreads having to reduce his payroll if revenue falls. "Every member of staff has been here for years. Jenny Essom said she and her husband visit Cartgate each time they drive down to Cornwall in their caravan. "The food is absolutely beautiful, so fresh and lovely. It's just wonderful," she said."We don't need another Welcome Break to stop at - they're all around the area. There's one just across the road. "It really isn't fair because of the people that work so hard here [at Cartgate]. If they keep going we will still come, but not everyone will obviously." A spokesman for ADS Design, which is representing the developer, previously told the BBC: "The proposed services will positively promote the area and provide a safe and comfortable refuge to visiting motorists."

'Major goal' to buy back Huish Park
Yeovil Town have made it a "major goal" to bring their stadium and surrounding area back under club ownership, according to executive chairman Stuart Robins. Huish Park was sold to South Somerset District Council in May 2022 in a deal worth £2.8m to pay off costs incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic. The National League club was brought under new ownership in May this year, with entrepreneur Prabhu Srinivasan acquiring a majority stake. "It's a major goal of ours to reunite the stadium with the football club," Robins told BBC Radio Somerset. "We've had numerous discussions with the council who have been incredibly supportive," he added. "Things are progressing nicely and hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later."The Glovers have been renting Huish Park from the council since the sale went through just over three years ago. The deal to sell the ground and 11 acres of surrounding land was initially approved in 2020. It was spearheaded by former Yeovil chairman Scott Priestnall, who said it was needed to "help the club survive". Priestnall sold the club to Martin Hellier shortly after the sale was completed during a period of turbulence, and at a time when they were briefly relegated to National League South. Under the terms of the lease the club are able to buy back the stadium, and Robins said owning it had many benefits."There's a rent bill that wouldn't need to be paid - that's the main thing - but it gives us options to secure the long-term sustainability of the football club," he said. "It's so important for fans and supporters to think you've got your own stadium."Yeovil begin the 2025-26 National League campaign at home to Hartlepool United on Saturday, 9 August in the first match under Srinivasan's tenure.
