James Gunn breaks down death rules in the DCU and when the Lazarus Pit might be used: 'I won't be killing major characters just to...'
With the first season of 'Creature Commandos' now available to watch, 'Superman' (starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult) releasing this July, and Season 2 of 'Peacemaker' launching in August,
James Gunn
and Peter Safran's DCU is starting to take shape.
As the universe expands, fans have grown more curious about its core concepts, beliefs, and how closely it will follow comic book traditions.
'In the DCU, if you die, you're dead'
Over on Threads, a fan joked, 'no one stays dead forever' and asked whether Princess Ilana Rostovic was really dead or if she might return for 'Creature Commandos' Season 2.
Gunn gave a firm reply: "In the DCU if you die, you're dead," not leaving much room for misinterpretation.
A fan raises the
Lazarus Pit
question
Another fan joined the conversation, saying, 'As someone who loves the no-resurrections rule, I do wonder, doesn't it limit you from using established elements of DC comics lore like the Lazarus Pit?"
Gunn responded, clarifying that while he's not completely against resurrection as an idea, it has to be done with purpose. 'I wouldn't mind using the Lazarus Pit (and/or resurrection) in a story. But it would have to be a part of the story itself.

I won't be killing major characters just to pop them in the old LP to be alive again."
Lazarus Pit: powerful but not to be overused
In the comics, Lazarus Pits are powerful pools that can heal wounds, resurrect the dead, and even offer near immortality. But Gunn made it clear that he thinks this plot device should be used very sparingly.
He explained, "What backfires more is people believing there are no stakes and death doesn't mean anything. Dead is dead."
High stakes in the new DCU
Gunn's message is loud and clear — in his DCU, death has weight. With the exception of major storylines like Jason Todd's, where the Lazarus Pit plays a crucial role, Gunn has no interest in casually bringing characters back to life. If resurrection is used, it will likely be central to the storyline, not just a quick fix. This approach aims to keep the stakes high and the stories meaningful, giving fans a more grounded and emotionally engaging DC Universe.

Aamir Khan explains the reason behind naming his children Junaid, Ira, and Azad despite his Hindu wives: 'I had no say in it'
Aamir Khan recently addressed the reason behind his children's Islamic-rooted names, Junaid, Ira, and Azad, despite his former wives being Hindu. He revealed that Reena Dutta, his first wife, chose Junaid and Ira's names, with Ira being derived from 'Irawati,' a name for Goddess Saraswati. Kiran Rao, his second wife, named their son Azad, honoring Maulana Azad, a freedom fighter. Aamir Khan, known for keeping his personal life largely private, recently opened up about a topic that has often sparked curiosity—why his children have names rooted in Islamic tradition despite both his former wives being Hindu. In a candid appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor revealed the real story behind the names Junaid, Ira, and Azad, offering a rare glimpse into the thoughtful choices made by his family over the years. During the interview, host Rajat Sharma playfully pointed out that Aamir's first wife was Reena, his second Kiran, and joked that his future wife might be named Gauri—all names of goddesses. Aamir blushed, crossed his fingers, and smiled. Sharma then asked why, despite this, Aamir's children are named Junaid Khan , Ira Khan, and Azad Khan . Aamir Khan clarified that the names of his children were chosen by his wives, not him. He explained that Reena, his first wife, selected the names Junaid and Ira—pointing out that Ira is another name for the goddess Saraswati, derived from 'Irawati,' a name she found in Maneka Gandhi's Book of Hindu Names. Aamir Khan also shared that his son Azad was named by his second wife, Kiran Rao . She chose the name to honour their family's connection to Maulana Azad, a key figure in India's freedom struggle who fought alongside leaders like Nehru, Gandhi, and Patel. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Harry Potter Actors Who Grew Up Stunningly. He later tied the knot with Kiran Rao in 2005, and in 2011, they welcomed their son, Azad Rao Khan. Though they separated in 2021, Aamir and Kiran continue to co-parent Azad. Aamir is currently in a relationship with Gauri Spratt, whom he introduced publicly on his 60th birthday.
