DC Studios Has No ‘Company Style,' Says James Gunn: ‘Not Every Movie' Will Feel Like ‘Superman' Because ‘We Don't Want People Being Bored'
With over $250 million at the global box office in less than week, 'Superman' is widely considered a win for the new DC Universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are spearheading at DC Studios. Next up for the franchise is 'Peacemaker' Season 2, followed by the 'Supergirl' movie and the 'Lanterns' television series in 2026. Plus there's 'Clayface,' which is set to film this year. Gunn recently told CBS Mornings that fans should expect each entry to have its own flavor and tone, just like actual comic books. ''Clayface' is a totally different thing. Although it's in the same universe, it's a complete horror film, and that's one of the things we want to do,' Gunn said. 'There's not a company style. It's not like every movie is gonna be like 'Superman.' The artists and the directors and the writers that create each one will bring their own sense to it. … We don't want people being bored.' The director has already said next year's 'Supergirl' will distance itself from 'Superman' by being a full-blown space fantasy. Variety recently reported that DC Studios parent company Warner Bros. already has sequel options on David Corenswet, who stars as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane. But a sequel announcement does not appear to be imminent, according to sources, as the studio is fast-tracking a 'Wonder Woman' movie. There's also a Batman movie in development that is separate from Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman 2,' which exists outside of Gunn's new DC Universe. James Gunn: Peacemaker Season 2 ‘Revolves Around' a Major Superman Movie Element
The following contains spoilers from James Gunn's movie, now in theaters. A significant plot element from James Gunn's Superman film will factor into Peacemaker Season 2. The Pitt's Noah Wyle Addresses Tracy Ifeachor's Exit Ahead of Season 2 Harry Potter: HBO Confirms 2027 Release Date for Series Adaptation - See First Production Photo Vice versa, actually. You may recall that Season 1 of the HBO Max series established that the titular Chris Smith's (John Cena) father Auggie (Robert Patrick) had inside his modest home a door that, using a keypad lock, opened into an incredibly/impossibly vast space dubbed the Quantum Unfolding Storage Area. Auggie used this XXXL area — a pocket universe, if you will — to store his White Dragon gear as well as son Chris' Peacemaker helmets. But in Season 2, it takes on greater significance. As teased in the stinger of the first trailer, Chris, once again in tighty-whiteys, opens a second door within the QUSA and runs into… his doppelgänger. In Gunn's Superman film, supervillain Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) uses a pocket universe that he created to, among other things, host a black site prison. The concept there, Gunn says, is similar to Peacemaker's QUSA, minus some big bugs. 'What the whole season of Peacemaker revolves around' is the idea a pocket universe, Gunn says in Superman post mortem. 'The one in Peacemaker works better,' Gunn notes. 'Lex's version is much jankier.' Gunn says that, as suggested by Peacemaker's doppelgänger in the trailer, the Quantum Unfolding Area allows for multiverse-type twists, though on the DC TV series they're handled 'in a much different way' than we've seen in superhero fare over recent years. 'I think of Peacemaker as more of a high-concept story about one other world,' he explains. 'It's more akin to Philip Roth's [1996 novel] The Counterlife than it is to the third Spider-Man movie [2021's No Way Home]… I love that movie, but it isn't about that. It isn't Deadpool & Wolverine. It's really a very simple, simple story about [Chris Smith's] relationship to this one other world.' Gunn then makes clear that this 'pocket universe' DNA shared by Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 did not dictate John Cena's brief cameo in the big-screen launch of the new DCU. 'He would've been in there no matter what,' asserts the filmmaker. 'I like the idea that he's going on this incendiary talk show, and he's one of these a–holes that would be on that show.' James Gunn reacts to viral Batman makeover theory; teases Clayface horror, triple Lantern chaos, and Peacemaker 2
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is now gearing up for the DCU's interconnected future, following the successful run of Superman. In a recent conversation with CBS, Gunn let out a sigh of relief, saying David Corenswet's reboot hit all three marks: audiences, critics, and the box office, after he spent three years building it. Now, Gunn's teasing Batman's arrival in The Brave and the Bold, but stayed cagey on whether we might see the Dark Knight even earlier. For now, he's got other heroes to roll out, starting with Peacemaker season 2, which drops next. Also read: Superman star Rachel Brosnahan says a 'witch' helped her lift a 10-year 'travel curse' ahead of movie promotion: 'I made her sign an NDA' Gunn didn't reveal too much about Batman, but he didn't shut the door on fan theories either. In an extended interview with the outlet, when asked if Batman would be donning a new costume, perhaps something different from the traditional black and grey, Gunn dodged, laughing and responding, 'I have no idea what Batman's going to wear.' He instead switched the topic to what he does know for sure is what's immediately ahead in the DCU. 'Peacemaker Season 2, which arrives in a month and is directly tied to events in Superman, with some overlapping characters,' he said. Following that, the timeline includes Supergirl, Lanterns (featuring Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner), and Clayface, which the Superman hitmaker described as a full-blown horror film set within the same universe. Further, Gunn emphasised that gone are the days of the old DCU; his version won't follow a one-size-fits-all formula. 'Each film will reflect the unique vision of its creators. There's not a company style,' he said. 'Just like comics, every story can be tonally different.' While Gunn neither confirmed nor denied the Batman makeover rumours, he definitely added fuel to fan theories that have been making rounds for months. Over the years, around 11 live-action Batmen have worn the Caped Crusader's iconic look. In an earlier interview with CBR, Gunn said, 'You know, there's no decisions made about the costume at all yet. I do [like the blue-and-gray Batsuit]! But I like the other versions, too. I like many different versions. I'm a Batman superfan. And so I like all the different versions of the Batman suit.' Also read: Superman: James Gunn's idea of an India-coded country is regressive and riddled with stereotypes; the Man of Steel wouldn't stand for it But he did hint at the trunks. 'I didn't know the trunks were going to be that important until I took this job,' he said, revealing that the first thing people asked when he got onboard DCU was what he planned to do with them. Fans have been speculating that Gunn and Andy Muschietti might shake things up costume-wise, but that'll only become clear once the film rolls. There's already buzz around patterns, a different colour palette, new materials, and details like longer ears and lenses,' doing the rounds online. As for Batman, beyond the costume chatter and release timeline, Gunn dropped something more telling, how this new take pushes back against the whole 'government puppet' label. He pointed out how Batman has traditionally seen Superman as a tool of the establishment, especially in The Dark Knight Returns. But now that Superman's stepping out of line and making moves on his own, he's starting to align with Batman's values more. 'Usually, Superman and Batman have different ways of doing things, but they're best friends. That's something we think a lot about for the DCU,' Gunn said. So one thing's clear, fans will get a very different dynamic between the two going forward.

Killed off in X-Men franchise, the Superman actor is now soaring in the DC universe
Marvel Studios definitely have their backs up after the positive reactions received by James Gunn's latest film, Superman. The film's box office collection is also growing exponentially by the day. One of the key takeaways from the film was the introduction of the Justice Gang, and out of the three superheroes, Mister Terrific has left a mark. Played by Edi Gathegi, the character added serious firepower to the film, and it is quite interesting to know that DC's latest winning stead was once in a competing stable and was part of the X-Men. Everyone is wondering, did Marvel lose out on a winner? Back in 2011, the X-Men franchise was owned by 20th Century Studios, and they came out with the film X-Men: First Class, which followed the journey of a young Charles Xavier and Magneto trying to create a mutant super team in order to deal with the repercussions of coming out to the world about their abilities. One of the young recruits was a mutant named Darwin (played by Edi), and anyone who is familiar with the comics knows about the incredible shape-shifting capabilities he possessed. What came as a surprise was that he was killed in the movie by Sebastian Shaw, and fans never got the chance to see the character develop. Interestingly, he had very similar powers to Metamorpho, who appears in Gunn's Superman, but obviously did not have a happy ending. ALSO READ: Superman ending explained: What it means for new DCU movies and Peacemaker season 2 Edi Gathegi recently revealed to THR that he had expressed concerns about the script to his agent and how he felt that killing the only male Black character halfway into X-Men: First Class was a cliche thing to do. He said, 'So I read the script, and I called my agents to say, 'Hey, listen, I have a problem with the fact that this character is the only Black character in the film aside from Zoë Kravitz's character. I am also the only mutant who meets an untimely demise halfway through the film.' It was 2009 at the time, and I was like, 'Killing the Black guy first is so played out. I can't do this.'' Edi added that he was told that the character's untimely death was part of a larger plan and he would return in the later films in the franchise, but nothing of the sort ever happened, which the actor expressed came as a 'surprise' to him. Now all these years later, Edi has made peace with the studios' decision and is currently bearing the fruits of his incredible portrayal of Mr Terrific. Fighting alongside Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) as the Justice Gang, Edi stole the show with his sarcastic quips, entertaining fight sequences and an air of domination. He added, 'With X-Men, the message that I received as an actor and as a man of colour in this world is you can be the most powerful mutant in the world, and they'll never let you reach your full potential. Whereas with Mister Terrific in Superman, the message that I'm receiving is you can be one of the most intelligent characters in the universe, and you can make a difference. You can help save the world. It's a different level of conversation.'

PEACEMAKER Season 2 Theatrical Trailer Confirms Multiverse Shift From DCEU to DCU: 'There's Another Dimension" — GeekTyrant
A new Peacemaker Season 2 trailer was shown exclusively in theaters ahead of Superman , and it teases the show's leap from the now-defunct DCEU into James Gunn's freshly-minted DCU. In the teaser, we hear the line: 'There's another dimension. That's exactly the same as ours. But it's better.' Peacemaker then chimes in with a typical Chris Smith spin: 'Best dimension ever.' It seems the show will be leaning into the multiverse concept, likely as a way to bridge its DCEU roots with the rebooted DCU. An earlier teaser showed Peacemaker stepping through a portal and facing a variant of himself, which confirmed the use of the Multiverse in the story. In Superman , Lex Luthor's experiments begin to tease the existence of alternate realities. It looks like Peacemaker Season 2 is goinh to utlixe that in its stpry. The season picks up after the events of Superman , placing Peacemaker squarely in this new continuity. Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord (introduced briefly in Superman) will interview Peacemaker as a candidate for the 'Justice Gang'. Familiar faces from Superman , like Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, are also set to appear in the show. Peacemaker Season 2 will see the return of characters including Freddie Stroma's unhinged Vigilante, Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo, Steve Agee's Economos, and Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt. The new big bad is Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr., who is out for blood after Peacemaker killed his son in The Suicide Squad . That storyline promises to tie together emotional fallout from the past while moving Peacemaker headfirst into a newly rebooted universe. Peacemaker Season 2 premieres August 21 on HBO Max.
