Video shows Albuquerque police officer getting arrested for DWI
BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – After a number of police officers have been accused of DWI over the past few weeks, video of one officer's arrest shows him staying calm and coming clean with deputies.

The DWI stop began with a polite greeting followed by a smile and a confession. During a DWI checkpoint two weeks ago, Bernalillo County Sheriff deputies stopped 38-year-old Jonathan Franco, an Albuquerque Police Department officer who works at the Albuquerque International Sunport. When questioned by deputies, Franco admitted to having a few beers.
When Franco was asked to get out of his car, he told deputies his six-year-old daughter was inside. That's when Franco is brought over to do a sobriety test.
Deputies move Franco inside their van and tell him that he will be arrested for DWI before continuing with a breathalyzer exam. At one point, deputies can be heard talking about Franco, saying he asked them for leniency and asking to give him 'a break'.
Franco's sister shows up to pick up his daughter before deputies book their fellow law enforcement officer. In the lapel video, officers can be heard expressing their disappointment.
Jonathan Franco has since been released. In addition to facing a DWI charge, he's facing charges for drinking with a minor in his car. Earlier this month, a New Mexico State Police officer and a Santa Ana Pueblo Police officer were also arrested for DWIs.

Police found the firearm, which is registered in the name of Franco's uncle, in the 24-year-old's vehicle and arrested him. His attorneys claim that there is no legal issue since the gun is licensed. He could find himself back in court at a future date. Franco is already facing extremely serious charges as we speak. Prosecutors state that he 'kidnapped' a then-14-year-old girl for 'sexual purposes' and paid the minor's mother thousands of dollars in order to gain her consent. They claimed to have conclusive evidence against the athlete before his trial started on June 2. The Rays signed Wander Franco to an 11-year, $182 million deal in 2021, which remains the biggest contract they have ever committed to a player. Obviously, they considered him to be a transformative talent who could lead the franchise through the 2020s. Because he is on the restricted list, Tampa Bay is not presently on the hook for its investment. Prosecutors intend to take Franco to trial for his gun charge. His current trial continues in Puerto Plata. He maintains his innocence and called for justice before the proceedings began. Apparently, there is a possibility the public has to wait approximately eight months for a verdict. In 2022, Joseph was names as a person of interest in connection with a fatal shooting at a nightclub in Lower Greenville in Dallas, police said. During the investigation, he was cleared of all charged after two suspects were arrested. In 2023, the Cowboys traded the cornerback to the Miami Dolphins, and he then bounced from team to team, including the Kansas City Chiefs. He joined the UFL in February 2025 and signed with the DC Defenders. In a statement following Joseph's arrest in the fatal crash, the UFL said, "We are aware of the incident and are gathering information. We have no further comment at this time."

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was charged with illegal possession of a firearm Sunday as he continues to stand trial on charges of sexual abuse, according to multiple reports. The gun possession charge stems from a November altercation that resulted in Franco's arrest. The 24-year-old Franco was arrested after an altercation with another man. Two guns were seized by police following that altercation, one of which was found in Franco's vehicle. Franco's lawyer, Antonio Garcia Lorenzo, argued that since the gun is licensed, "there's nothing illegal about it," per reports. Franco is currently on trial in the Dominican Republic on charges of sexual and commercial exploitation of a minor. Franco is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. Franco allegedly paid the girl's mother thousands of dollars to engage in the relationship. The girl's mother was also charged with sexual abuse of a minor and money laundering. Once considered the top overall prospect in the minor leagues, Franco was in the midst of a breakout season when allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor emerged during the 2023 MLB season. Franco was placed on the restricted list by the Rays that August as MLB investigated the situation. Shorty after that story broke, MLB placed Franco on administrative leave under the league's joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. He has not appeared in an MLB game since Aug. 2023. MLB's investigation into Franco remains ongoing as he stands trial in the Dominican Republic. Franco — who signed an 11-year, $182 million contract with the Rays in 2021 — faces up to 30 years in prison if he's convicted.
