AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Saturday launched the "Widad" campaign, a series of free medical days in the Balqa Governorate.
The initiative, organised by the Nobles Foundation for Sustainable Development, coincides with His Majesty King Abdullah's birthday and aims to provide essential healthcare services to underserved families and communities across the kingdom.
The campaign kicked off at the New Mallaha housing project in the Deir Alla District, which was established under Royal directives and inaugurated by King Abdullah in January 2025, according to a Royal Court Statement.
Organisers noted that the campaign will later expand to other low-income housing areas and remote regions in need of healthcare support.
During the launch event, attended by Balqa Governor Salman Najada and Princess Iman Hospital Director Abdulaziz Awamleh, Issawi highlighted the significance of such initiatives in promoting social solidarity by ensuring healthcare access for vulnerable groups.
Founder and Director of the Nobles Foundation Lara Burgan highlighted the wide range of services provided, including laboratory tests, early breast cancer screenings, speech therapy for children, vision screenings, and care for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
She emphasised that the campaign was coordinated with the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and local authorities.
Alongside the medical services, the foundation organises social and recreational activities for children and residents in the targeted areas.

He commended the pioneering role of the Public Security Directorate in establishing a specialized treatment center offering advanced psychological and therapeutic services. The center also provides post-treatment follow-up and care, all free of charge and funded by the PSD, reflecting a strong belief in the value of dedicated rehabilitation facilities for drug users. Faraya also praised the confidential procedures at the center, noting that the strict privacy surrounding treatment helps encourage individuals and families to seek help voluntarily, without fear of legal repercussions—thus increasing chances of recovery and reintegration into society. Major General Maaytah reaffirmed the PSD's continued commitment to field, awareness, and treatment efforts within the framework of the National Anti-Drug Strategy. He announced plans to establish two new treatment centers in northern and southern Jordan, in addition to creating dedicated treatment units inside correctional facilities, similar to the one at Birayn Rehabilitation Center. The visit included a tour of the center's medical, rehabilitation, and recreational facilities. Officials were briefed on treatment protocols, recovery programs, and the step-by-step rehabilitation process. The center has already provided services to hundreds of individuals, significantly improving the well-being of many families.

Jordan suspends poultry imports from Brazil over Avian Influenza concerns
AMMAN — The Ministry of Agriculture on Sunday announced the suspension of imports of live poultry and untreated poultry products from Brazil following the confirmation of Avian Influenza cases in the South American country. The ministry said the move is a precautionary measure aimed at protecting animal health, public safety, and national food security, in line with Jordan's risk management protocols, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The suspension would remain in effect until further notice to be reviewed once the epidemiological situation in Brazil improves, the ministry said. "The measure was based on veterinary risk assessments and international surveillance data. It applies to all types of live birds and poultry products that have not undergone sufficient heat to neutralise the virus." The ministry also noted that poultry products that have been properly thermally processed and proven safe through international health standards are exempt from the ban, adding that it was closely monitoring animal health developments in exporting countries through coordination with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and other international monitoring bodies. It also stressed its readiness to take further necessary steps to safeguard public health and the integrity of Jordan's agricultural sector.

The children had arrived in Jordan on March 4 as part of the first medical evacuation group, coordinated through joint land and air efforts by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health. During their stay, the children received specialised treatment for a range of urgent medical conditions, with all 17 making full recoveries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. An additional 12 children remain hospitalised in Jordan, continuing to receive care under the same initiative. The families expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah and the JAF, praising the initiative for restoring hope to communities devastated by the Israeli war and the dire healthcare shortage in Gaza. This medical evacuation is one of several humanitarian interventions launched by Jordan in response to the Gaza crisis. Other efforts include the deployment of field hospitals, the dispatch of medical and food aid convoys, and the continued evacuation of children and other individuals in need of advanced treatment unavailable in the besieged enclave. Jordan currently operates two military field hospitals in Gaza. The first, in northern Gaza, was established in 2009 following the war of 2008. The second was established in Khan Younis in the south in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023. Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023 and has conducted over 900 surgeries and received more than 83,000 patients ever since.
