City celebrates newly renovated fire station in East El Paso, launches ‘Fill the Boot' campaign
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Fire Station No. 25 on Friday, May 16, in East El Paso.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony happened on May 16 at Fire Station No. 25, located at 10834 Ivanhoe Dr.
According to the news release by the City, the $2.78 million renovation project was funded by the voter-approved 2019 Public Safety Bond.
The bond provides 'essential resources to the El Paso Fire and Police Departments, enabling the renovation and construction of new emergency response facilities throughout our community,' according to the City.
The renovation project includes the following improvements:
Interior and exterior upgrades to the facility
New flooring, a lighting control panel, and an upgraded fire alarm system
Modernized kitchen, restrooms, showers, doors, and door frames
Upgraded HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
New additions to the existing facility, including an ambulance bay and adormitory sleeping area
'Renovations to Fire Station No. 25 are a testament to the City of El Paso's commitment to maintaining its status as one of the nation's safest cities and improving public safety and operational efficiency,' read the news release.
In addition to the newly renovated fire station, the ribbon-cutting ceremony also marked the beginning of the 'Fill the Boot' campaign.
According to the City, the campaign is a tradition where El Paso firefighters raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Donations collected during the campaign will support individuals and families affected by the disease.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — After a lengthy restoration project, the Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge isn't holding strong. After walking down the bridge, News 8 noticed damage and spoke with the community about how they feel. 'When the surface of the bridge is deteriorating, people say 'Well, was this a waste of money?' and we're still trying to get answers on that,' Rochester's Kathryn D'Amanda said. Walking along the bridge, News 8 noticed nearly 40 areas with damage just like this. Now, this project went over budget at $18.7 million. 'When you do a big project like this, you hope that the public is going to have a joyful experience,' D'Amanda said. 'It was a long time coming and you don't want people being disappointed and sometimes I think that the City doesn't take… they invest a lot… but they don't in the end invest enough to make the difference that we need to have.' D'Amanda told News 8 the damage is upsetting after the time and money the City put in. The Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge restoration project included repairs to the bridge's structural steel and the addition of a new deck railing. The project started in July 2023 and the bridge reopened in December 2024. But D'Amanda said even before this damage, the City could've done better with beautification. 'They invested a lot and they did a lot of work under the bridge which is very important but they didn't take the final step in painting it which makes it look to the public as if the work wasn't done,' D'Amanda said. But a few Rochesterians, like Gary Silco, say it's a cosmetic issue, so it's not much of a bother. 'I don't feel that it's dangerous,' Silco said. 'I think it might be a hazard for people stepping on it perhaps but I don't think it's a danger to the bridge.' Ultimately, locals like D'Amanda and Silco told News 8 they love their city. 'I'm so excited to live in the city and I hope that the city will take the time and the money that it takes to invest properly,' D'Amanda said. According to a spokesperson for the City of Rochester, City employees are aware of the chipping of the non-structural concrete deck coating on the bridge. They are waiting for a report to figure out why this happened and they say the bridge surface will be redone, at no cost to the City, after they have determined the cause of the issue. The Jonathan Hager House Museum offers new tours this summer. According to an announcement, the 'Jonathan Hager: The Patriot' tours will run Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through the weekend of July 4. Visitors can explore the museum and learn about the founder of Hagerstown and his family's role in the American Revolution. In addition to the tours, a new living history event titled '1775: Hager's Town Revolts' is set for Saturday, June 7. 17 wanted suspects arrested after 2nd warrant round-up
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A total of 17 individuals with outstanding criminal warrants were arrested during the second operation under the Joint Warrant Initiative on Wednesday, June 4, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPCSO) said in a news release. 21 wanted suspects arrested in joint warrant round-up The following individuals were arrested during the warrant round-up, according to EPCSO: EPCSO said this latest operation was carried out in partnership with the offices of Constable Frank Almada, Precinct 1; Constable Hector Bernal, Precinct 3; Constable Javier Garcia, Precinct 6; and Constable Angie Summers, Precinct 7. 'Our priority is holding individuals with outstanding warrants accountable,' Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. 'I'm grateful for the continued dedication of the team at the Sheriff's Office, and I appreciate the Constables who joined us in making this second operation a success.' EPCSO said the Joint Warrant Initiative was launched last month as a coordinated approach to reduce the number of outstanding criminal warrants across El Paso County.
