Several past and present performers from 'Saturday Night Live' are taking part in a new comedy festival this weekend, the highlight of which involves the longtime 'Weekend Update' anchor Michael Che hosting what he's calling 'Che'Chella' at 10 p.m. on Saturday at Irving Plaza ($35 on Ticketmaster).
The festival kicks off on Thursday with a free outdoor show starting at 6 p.m. in Union Square and featuring Emil Wakim, a current 'S.N.L.' cast member; and Chris Redd, a former cast member; as well as Sam Jay, Rachel Feinstein, Pete Lee and Shane Torres. There will be many shows to choose from all weekend at the Stand, like a free taping of Sean Donnelly and Dan St. Germain's podcast 'Burbs Bros' with their guest Michael Ian Black on Friday at 5 p.m. Back at Irving Plaza, you can catch up with Vinny Guadagnino from 'Jersey Shore' on Saturday at 7 p.m. (from $30 at Ticketmaster), and on Sunday at 8 p.m., you can top off the weekend by watching Hank Azaria, Big Jay Oakerson and others front a rock band in 'The Goddamn Comedy Jam' (from $25 on Ticketmaster). ‘Hamilton' shook Broadway 10 years ago in a way it hasn't been since
I knew 'Hamilton' was different when, during the first week of previews 10 years ago, Hennessy threw them a party. Not the usual pinot grigio and martinis affair at Angus. No, this hot show was being feted by the French cognac brand beloved by rappers. The atypically luxe early bash for a new Broadway musical with no big names was at URBO, which used to be on West 42nd Street. Creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda was there with cast members including Leslie Odom, Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Anthony Ramos and Daveed Diggs — dancing and sipping curated cocktails. 4 Ten years ago, 'Hamilton' celebrated its first week on Broadway with a party thrown by Hennessy cognac. Alamy Stock Photo I thought of that infectious mood Wednesday when the hit hip-hop musical about founding father and New York Post creator Alexander Hamilton celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Richard Rodgers Theatre with a reunion followed by a high-energy gathering on 46th Street. QuestLove DJ'd from the balcony. That Hennessy soiree in July 2015 was like being at a Hollywood movie premiere, only none of these people were famous yet. The show hadn't even opened. The Diamond-certified album was still two months away. However, Henny knew history was happenin' in Manhattan. (So did The Post, by the way. We sponsored its off-Broadway run downtown at the Public). That glam night kicked off a year of beaming revelry around town that would make a royal coronation blush. 'Hamilton' soon went on to take over the city and the country. 4 'Hamilton' partied for its 10th anniversary on August the actors, like the original young cast of 'Saturday Night Live' 40 years earlier, became overnight sensations. It was an unbelievably exciting time to be in New York — thanks, in no small part, to Broadway and that musical. Last week's first-decade festivities brought me back to opening night in 2015 when Eliza actress Phillipa Soo stood by Peter Dinklage and Sarah Jessica Parker at Pier 60 as a special fireworks display blazed over the Hudson set to the show's music and ending with 'New York, New York.' ('The Outsiders' and 'Maybe Happy Ending' didn't get one of those.) Or the time Miranda jumped on a stool at the Glass House Tavern on 47th Street the evening his show won the Pulitzer, and bought the whole bar a round of drinks. And that June, when crowds were finally booted from the show's Tonys night victory rager at Tavern on the Green around 7 a.m. when the sun came up. 4 The show electrified New York during its first year. AP Their egalitarian 'Ham4Ham' concerts that here held regularly outside the theater, where lottery winners could get $10 tickets and everybody enjoyed a free show, turned into an event that spilled onto the street. 'Hamilton,' in its lyrics and its onstage and offstage spirit, exemplified NYC at its best: 'The greatest city in the world' where everybody knows 'how lucky we are to be alive right now.' A show about New York, made in New York by New Yorkers. At the moment it exploded, Miranda's musical was — like John's of Bleecker Street or the High Line or the US Open — a point of enormous local pride. Everybody was in a clamor to see it. Disney shelled out $75 million for a video of the stage production. How lucky we were to have a must-see show that enlivened the entire city, whether they could get in or not, instead of today's stuffy plays starring exhausted celebs for the deep-pocketed few. 4 Disney purchased the rights to air 'Hamilton' for $75 million. Christopher Sadowski And no musical, try though they might, has been able to capture the popular imagination in the same way since. 'Hamilton' is still packing 'em in and will for a long time. But Broadway could sure use another one. How much longer do we have to 'wait for it'?

Is SNL new tonight on August 9, 2025?
It was a great Season 50 of Saturday Night Live, with some hilarious cold opens, funny moments on Weekend Update and so many guest stars. There was also the big SNL 50 celebration this year. And if you're here, you might be getting ready to watch SNL on Saturday, August 9, 2025 and wondering: is it all new tonight? If not, is it a rerun? Who's hosting? TV Guide says we're getting the episode in which Dave Chappelle was the host and GloRilla was the musical guest. It'll be a while until we get a new episode, sadly, but at least we can rewatch the past season's funny episodes. There you have it. Enjoy! When is SNL Season 51 coming? Reports say the season premiere of Season 51 will be October 4. Who is leaving SNL? And who is joining the cast? We haven't heard names that our out. We do know that Mikey Day is staying, and we haven't heard yet about any new comedians or actors who will be joining the cast this fall.

Wembley Stadium investigates claim people were smuggled into Oasis shows without tickets
An investigation has been launched into reports that up to 200 people were able to sneak into Oasis's concerts at Wembley Stadium without tickets. The Britpop legends played the London venue five times between 25 July to 3 August as part of their ongoing 2025 reunion tour, with a further two shows scheduled for September. Tickets sold out in hours when they went on sale last year, after brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher announced that they were reuniting for the first time since their infamous split in 2009. Unprecedented demand was met with a surge in ticket prices and a row over Ticketmaster's so-called 'dynamic pricing', which the company denied using. It has now been reported that some people paid £350 each to be smuggled into Wembley through a disabled entrance across the five gigs, allegedly using copies of the same ticket to get through security. The Sun reports that those people were handed wristbands by members of security that gave them access to the VIP area in front of the stage. One fan claimed: 'We were given our tickets, which were all the same, and a woman drew a shape on our hands. We were told to go to the disabled door at entrance M, even though our tickets said entrance F. 'We showed our stamped hands to the person on the door, they scanned the tickets, even though we all had the same one, and let us in.' Another member of staff apparently then handed them a 'golden circle' wristband and 'that was it. There were zero security searches. We just walked straight in.' Sky News reports that six people were arrested for suspected unauthorised entry during the shows, while 24 were ejected from the venue on the same grounds. A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said in a statement: 'Entering Wembley Stadium without a ticket is a serious offence and we are investigating these allegations. 'If they are substantiated, we will refer our evidence to the police.' The Independent has contacted Wembley Stadium and Oasis's representatives for comment. Oasis are currently in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they will play two further shows tonight (Saturday 9 August) and Tuesday (11 August), after their first gig at Murrayfield Stadium on Friday. They will then perform at Dublin's Croke Park before heading to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America later this year. On Friday night, Liam Gallagher hit out at City of Edinburgh council over a report that predicted fans would be 'rowdy' and 'intoxicated' during their shows at Murrayfield. Speaking in front of around 70,000 fans, Liam branded the council a 'bunch of snakes' and said his band were 'still waiting for our apology'. Meanwhile, The Independent reported this week of 'outrageous' price hikes for hotels and accommodation as the band's shows clash with Edinburgh Fringe festival. The Independent found prices approaching £4,000 for accommodation. With 92 per cent of hotels and lodgings sold out on sites including Expedia listed one 12-bedroom house at £8,009 – the cost falling by almost half a month later. Meanwhile, one luxury hotel was charging £3,599 for a suite, with more affordable options no longer available.
