172 Bihar, Bengal women availed Maiya funds with forged docus
Following the detection of the fraudulent withdrawal of the first instalment of the scheme amounts, the East Singhbhum district administration has initiated action to penalise the fraudsters and recover the money from them.
In its initial action, the administration has filed an FIR against the 172 women with the Galudih police station apart from taking up steps by DC Karn Satyarthi to freeze their bank accounts on Thursday.
Talking about the fraud, a district administration official, SDO Sunil Chandra said, "There's a suspicion that some gang is involved in conducting the fraud. Police will extensively probe and get to the root of it."
The fraud was first detected during scrutiny of the accounts of the MSY beneficiaries by the Galudih block officials. They initially found 132 women from Uttar Dinajpur under the Chopra police station of Bengal included in the beneficiary list.

Later, they also detected 40 women from a village under the Thakurganj police station of Kishanganj district of Bihar. All these women have produced forged residential documents to avail of the Jharkhand govt's scheme.
"All 172 women have shown in their documents that they are the residents of Cholagora village in Hendaljuri panchayat under Galudih thana limits in Ghatsila block," said Mangal Tudu, the panchayat secretary of Hendaljuri.
Moreover, their bank documents showed that all 172 women belonged to a particular minority community and incidentally none of the people of that community actually live in the eight villages of the Hendaljuri panchayat. The women under scanner have opened their bank accounts with the SBI Ghatsila branch and have also withdrawn one instalment of the MSY scheme, officials added.

The car plunged into the creek at a dead-end around 1 am on Friday. She was rescued by the coastal security police team deployed at the jetty, and her car was pulled out using a hydraulic crane. The woman, Shweta Sharma, a Kharghar resident , was on her way to Ulwe to a friend's residence. It was raining heavily and it was pitch dark when the woman took a left turn near NMMC headquarters. Instead of getting onto the Belapur creek bridge, she drove towards the service road, under the bridge, unaware that it was a dead-end towards the jetty, said senior inspector of coastal security police, Santosh Kane. Spotting a car heading towards the jetty, cops at the spot signalled her to stop. "But before she could halt the car plunged about 10 feet into the creek water," said Kane. "Within two minutes, she was spotted outside the car as the door opened. She was struggling to remain afloat in the water amid high tide. "She said she got confused by the direction shown on the map. Instead of ascending the bridge to head towards Ulwe, she drove along the service road, under the bridge.," said Palampalle. Accused uses neighbour's identity to hoodwink cops; jumps bail, absconds
Lucknow: In a startling case of identity fraud, a man arrested in 2024 for smuggling narcotics wrongly identified himself as Nazim, a resident of Rudauli in Ayodhya. It was only after he jumped a conditional bail and absconded, and a court warrant reached Nazim's house that the reality came to light. It was then revealed that the man arrested for smuggling narcotics was one Shehzade, also of Rudauli. After his arrest, he misled the police and identified himself as Nazim. Police have now registered a fresh case of fraud against Shehzade. The incident has exposed the process of police verifying the credentials of a local accused against whom police proceedings are initiated. Barabanki superintendent of police Arpit Vijayvargiya said that a departmental probe has been initiated in the case against all those police personnel involved in the case. Barabanki police also lodged an FIR on Friday at Haidergarh police station, from where Shehzade was arrested last year. The FIR was lodged based on a complaint by Nazim whose identity Shehzade used to hoodwink police. However, instead of providing his own details, Shehzade allegedly gave Nazim's name and address at the time of arrest. Nazim alleged that Shehzade impersonated him with malicious intent to defame him and potentially trap him in a serious criminal case. Shehzade reportedly remained in jail for nearly six months using Nazim's identity. Nazim emphasised that he has never been involved in any criminal activity nor has he ever been imprisoned. Bhatkhande scam kingpin still on run
Lucknow: The CID has intensified its probe into the Rs 3.31 crore scam at Bhatkhande Sanskriti University, carrying out searches to trace the alleged mastermind — administrative officer Ram Kumar — who remains absconding. Seven people, including two faculty members, were arrested on July 23. Ram Kumar allegedly manipulated tender and construction processes under the patronage of top officials. Contracts worth crores were reportedly handed out arbitrarily, often without any formal tender process — sometimes even on plain paper. He fled weeks ago as the probe loomed. CID sources say further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
