1 2 Jamshedpur: Proving its excellence in urban cleanliness and community driven sanitation practices Jamshedpur bagged 3rd rank in cleanest city in India under 3-10 lakh population category in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. It is notable that the city scored an impressive 11,588 out of the 12,500 marks as a result it jumped to 3rd rank from 43rd earlier. The Steel city has also been declared Jharkhand's first Garbage Free City (GFC) with 5-Star rating from 3-Star earlier. The 70 families inhabiting Andharjhor are well known for making tabla, drum, tambourine, mridangam, mandar, dhol for decades. Eminent musician Zakir Hussain, who passed away last year, had visited Andharjhor thrice in the mid 90s to purchase tabla. IMD issues red alert for Jharkhand, schools shut amid heavy rain; Delhi-NCR to receive more showers today
As monsoon rains continue to lash over India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy showers and flash floods in Jharkhand. IMD Weather Forecast Red alert in Jharkhand, schools shut In Jharkhand, the IMD has issued a red warning for heavy rainfall and flash floods. As per the weather department, a 'red' alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for Saraikela-Kharswan, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum districts. Meanwhile, an 'orange' alert is in place for very heavy rainfall in Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega districts. In view of the IMD alerts, all government, private and minority schools up to class 12 in East Singhbhum district have been closed. As per an order issued by deputy commissioner Karn Satyarthi, school authorities were asked to conduct online classes to avert any disruption of studies. The Ranchi Meteorological Centre deputy director Abhishek Anand told news agency PTI that the state is likely to experience a widespread rainfall till July 17. "A well marked low pressure area over Southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh concentrated into a depression. It is likely to move west–northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal during next 24 hours," he added. Light rain, thunderstorm expected over Delhi-NCR With monsoon set across the capital, Delhi and neighbouring regions of Noida and Gurugram continue to witness spells of rainfall. However, Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts are under Orange Alert for today due to the likelihood of heavy to heavy rainfall, and this activity will continue tomorrow as well," Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the Shimla Meteorological Centre, told news agency PTI. Downpour expected over Bengal, MP sees record rainfall In West Bengal, the IMD has predicted heavy rain due to a well-marked low depression over the southeast Gangetic West Bengal. As per the weather department, heavy downpour is likely in South 24 Parganas, East and West Bardhaman districts till Tuesday morning. The IMD further added that light to moderate rain is likely to occur across districts of south Bengal, with heavy downpour in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts till Wednesday. In Madhya Pradesh, IMD officials have stated that the state has received 76 per cent higher rainfall than average. "Madhya Pradesh has received 456.6 mm rainfall against the average of 260 mm from June 1 to July 14. This is 76 per cent excess rainfall. Tikamgarh has received 828.3 mm against its average of 250.4 mm," IMD senior meteorologist VS Yadav told PTI.

Governance models from state to feature at nat'l meet in Odisha
1 2 Gumla: Two of Jharkhand's development models will be showcased for replication in other parts of the country during a two-day conference in Bhubaneshwar, the Union govt has said. The Centre's department of administrative reforms and public grievances (DARPG) will organise the conference on July 17 and 18 in collaboration with the Odisha govt. While Gumla district's development model will be showcased at the event titled 'Good Governance Practices', the spotlight will also be on Seraikela-Kharsawan's efforts to transform and develop the district's aspirational block Ghamaria. During the conference, former Gumla deputy commissioner (DC), Karn Satyarthi, who has now transferred as the East Singhbhum DC, has been invited to address the event on the pioneering practices undertaken. At the same time, former Seraikela-Kharsawan DC Ravi Shankar Shukla has also been invited to share the efforts taken by the district administration to transform and develop the Gamharia block. 172 Bihar, Bengal women availed Maiya funds with forged docus
Jamshedpur: A total of 172 women of Bihar and Bengal were found to have availed the financial benefits of Rs 2,500 each of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's flagship welfare scheme Maiya Samman Yojana (MSY) fraudulently by making forged residential documents from Ghatsila of East Singhbhum district. Following the detection of the fraudulent withdrawal of the first instalment of the scheme amounts, the East Singhbhum district administration has initiated action to penalise the fraudsters and recover the money from them. In its initial action, the administration has filed an FIR against the 172 women with the Galudih police station apart from taking up steps by DC Karn Satyarthi to freeze their bank accounts on Thursday. Talking about the fraud, a district administration official, SDO Sunil Chandra said, "There's a suspicion that some gang is involved in conducting the fraud. Police will extensively probe and get to the root of it." The fraud was first detected during scrutiny of the accounts of the MSY beneficiaries by the Galudih block officials. All these women have produced forged residential documents to avail of the Jharkhand govt's scheme. "All 172 women have shown in their documents that they are the residents of Cholagora village in Hendaljuri panchayat under Galudih thana limits in Ghatsila block," said Mangal Tudu, the panchayat secretary of Hendaljuri. Moreover, their bank documents showed that all 172 women belonged to a particular minority community and incidentally none of the people of that community actually live in the eight villages of the Hendaljuri panchayat. The women under scanner have opened their bank accounts with the SBI Ghatsila branch and have also withdrawn one instalment of the MSY scheme, officials added.
