TikTok unveils updated community guidelines; to come into force from September 13
ANI TikTok has announced revised community guidelines on its platform, which include stricter rules for commercial content and new measures around artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content. The updates will take effect starting September 13 this year. Under the updated guidelines, TikTok will now minimise the visibility of commercial content, directing users to buy products off-platform in markets where TikTok Shop is available. TikTok Shop, which launched in the US in September 2023, allows users to run livestreams, selling everything from sneakers to eyeshadow and earn a commission on sales. TikTok's built-in ecommerce marketplace is known for discounted products. Additionally, the revised guidelines mandate the commercial content to be disclosed through TikTok's branded content tools. Verification must In line with the enhanced scrutiny over commercial content, TikTok has approved only verified TikTok Shop sellers and business accounts to promote products categorised under high-risk or sensitive items. The updated guidelines consolidate gambling, alcohol, drugs, firearms, and tobacco policies under a single Regulated Goods & Services section. For live creators Live streamers on the platform are charged with tighter rules, as they are now responsible for everything that pops up during their live session, even if it involves third-party tools, like real-time translation or voice-to-text tools to read out viewers' comments. Committed to delivering AI-powered citizen services to one crore people by 2027: Minister
Telangana government is committed to delivering Artificial Intelligence-powered citizen services to one crore people by 2027, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said here on Monday. The aim is to harness AI to build a Telangana where citizen services reach people even before they seek, he said, adding the government believes in being proactive, transparent and forward-looking as opposed to one that reacts after a problem arises. $5 billion AI Hub Inaugurating a three-day training programme for government officials organised by the Emerging Technologies Wing of the IT Department at the Dr. MCR HRD Institute here, he said the government's vision is to make Telangana a hub for a $5 billion AI economy, which would generate thousands of new jobs. Initiatives such as an AI City, AI University and Telangana AI Innovation Hub are being developed to international standards to achieve this, he said. Babu said the State is the first in the country to launch an AI-driven Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) that is now serving as a role model for other States. Building on this momentum, the government is working to make over 300 citizen services across 20 departments available through AI-powered platforms. The Minister's office in a release on the 'AI-led Digital Transformation – Champions and Catalysts' training programme said 250 officials from 20 departments have been selected for specialised AI training. Over the next three months, the officials will be mentored by AI experts to help them integrate emerging technologies into governance and service delivery. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Secretary Bhavesh Mishra and other senior officials were present at the launch. A first-of-its-kind effort to institutionalise AI-readiness across the State's governance ecosystem, the programme aims to create internal capacity to harness AI for improving service delivery, operational efficiency, and policy effectiveness while fostering collaboration across departments and enabling scalable adoption of AI in governance. The programme will equip the officers with AI fundamentals, data readiness skills and exposure to no-code tools and agile solution development.
