Caitlin Clark could be sidelined again with another injury heading into All-Star weekend
NEW YORK (AP) — The Indiana Fever might be without star guard Caitlin Clark again for a bit after she injured her groin Tuesday night late in a win over the Connecticut Sun.
It will be a busy week for the league's young star if she can play. Clark and the Fever visit New York on Wednesday night in the second half of a back-to-back and Indiana hosts the All-Star Game this weekend. Clark is set to compete in a loaded 3-point contest Friday night and is captain of one of the All-Star teams.
'No update. Just felt a little something in her groin,' Fever coach Stephanie White said after an 85-77 victory over the Sun in Boston. 'We'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there.'
Clark got hurt with under a minute left when she walked downcourt holding her right groin after assisting on the Fever's final basket. As teammate Aliyah Boston tried to console her, Clark walked to the basket stanchion and banged her head against it before heading to the bench. During the timeout, she covered her head with a towel and appeared to be holding back tears.
Clark had been durable throughout college and her first season in the WNBA, never missing a game. Now she's had four different muscle injuries so far this year.
She missed the preseason opener with tightness in her quad but played the next day in an exhibition game at her alma mater, Iowa. She suffered a quad strain against New York on May 24 that kept her out for five games. Clark returned on June 14 and played in five games before suffering another injury to her left groin that kept her out for four contests and the Commissioner's Cup final.
The Fever canceled shootaround Wednesday morning in New York, a common practice when a team is playing back-to-back games.
'I think we just take it one step at a time. We'll get some food, get on the plane and start talking about New York," White said. "She's being evaluated, we'll see where we are with that, and certainly we'll have another evaluation, probably in conversation in the morning, and see where we are. But, you know, this group has played without her, we've at least got experience in that. We know that we have a tough opponent in New York, and we know it's going to be a challenge no matter what.'

Certainly, as far as what they're looking for, from a person, from a player—helping Drake Maye—this guy checks every box." McLaurin is exactly the kind of veteran playmaker the Patriots were initially looking for in free agency before signing four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs. There is still some uncertainty about what they'll get out of Diggs, who is still recovering from the torn ACL injury he suffered last season. Diggs is one of the hardest-working players in the league, and he looks well ahead of schedule in his recovery. With that said, it would be a huge bonus for the team to add McLaurin, an elite player coming off a highly productive season with a young quarterback. Scottie Scheffler starts strong at British Open after eye-opening comments
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — Two days after the eye-opening deep riff on the meaning of life that world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler delivered in his pre-tournament press conference, he posted a 3-under-par 68 in the first round of the British Open Thursday at Portrush. When Scheffler finished his round, he was one shot off the lead thanks to birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to get to 3-under. Advertisement After his round, Scheffler was playfully chided by a reporter about his ability to shoot under par despite his lack of hitting fairways — he hit only three of 14 for the round. 'Yeah, you're the second guy that's mentioned that to me,'' Scheffler said. 'I actually thought I drove it pretty good. I don't know what you guys are seeing. 'At 3-under par, I felt like I hit the ball nice off the tee and really only had one swing I wasn't too happy with on maybe the second hole. 'You get a little moisture between the club face and the ball, especially with the longer clubs and the woods, and it can be pretty challenging. Pogačar powers to big Pyrenees win to reclaim Tour de France yellow jersey
HAUTACAM, France (AP) — Tadej Pogačar powered to an impressive stage win on the first day in the Pyrenees to take back the Tour de France yellow jersey on Thursday. On a day when many wondered if he would suffer any ill effects from his crash the day before, Pogačar showed none and put himself in prime position for his fourth Tour victory with a break on the stage-ending climb to Hautacam. Hautacam is the resort overlooking Lourdes and Stage 12 must have felt like a pilgrimage for all the riders. Ben Healy, who wore the yellow jersey for two stages, finished well behind on a brutal day for the Irish rider. In 2022, Vingegaard dominated Pogačar at Hautacam on his way to his first Tour victory. But the Danish rider is now 3 ½ minutes behind his main rival in the general classification. __
