Ringgit Expected To Trade In Cautious Mode Next Week Amid US Tariff Uncertainty

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The ringgit is likely to be traded cautiously against the US dollar next week amid ongoing uncertainties surrounding US tariff policy developments, said Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid.
This follows renewed market uncertainty after a US federal appeals court granted the White House's request to temporarily pause a lower-court ruling that struck down President Donald Trump's tariffs on imports into the country.
Earlier, the US Court of International Trade had ruled that the tariffs announced by Trump were illegal. However, the Trump administration challenged the ruling, which has briefly restored the tariffs while the appeal process runs its course.
Besides that, he said attention will also turn to the upcoming US Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled for June 16-17.
'Key US economic indicators, particularly labour market data and inflation figures, will be closely watched.
'Important data releases such as nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate, and the Institute for Supply Management manufacturing index will serve as critical guidance for investors and traders,' he told Bernama, adding that current data suggests a moderating growth outlook.
Hence, Mohd Afzanizam said the FOMC is likely to maintain its interest rate stance, given that tariff-related policies could pose future inflationary risks.
Given these developments, he opined that the USD/MYR is expected to remain within the RM4.22–RM4.24 range in the coming week.

Reusable Water Bottles Market to Reach USD 12,625.44 million By 2032, Growing At An 4.75% CAGR

PUNE, India, June 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Credence Research announces the latest insights from its comprehensive study on the Reusable Water Bottles Market, which is projected to grow from USD 8,314.96 million in 2023 to USD 12,625.44 million by 2032, registering a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.75% during the forecast period. The growth trajectory of this market reflects increasing consumer awareness and urgency around environmental sustainability. With rising concerns about plastic waste and mounting regulatory pressure against single-use plastics, more individuals are actively embracing eco-friendly alternatives. Reusable water bottles have emerged as a practical and symbolic choice for consumers adopting sustainable lifestyles. The upward trend in outdoor activities, fitness routines, and wellness-oriented living has further reinforced demand for high-quality, durable hydration solutions. Credence Research highlights that innovation continues to be a critical growth lever. Leading manufacturers are investing in product development—introducing BPA-free, insulated, and ergonomically designed bottles made from stainless steel, silicone, and glass. These advancements, combined with customizable features and aesthetic appeal, are particularly resonating with millennial and Gen Z consumers. The rapid expansion of e-commerce platforms and the influence of social media campaigns have further accelerated the adoption of premium reusable water bottles globally. As corporate sustainability initiatives and consumer demand for green products intensify, the reusable water bottles market is poised to witness robust growth and dynamic evolution throughout the forecast period. Browse the report and understand how it can benefit your business strategy- Key Growth Determinants – Reusable Water Bottles Market Environmental Awareness and Plastic Waste ReductionGrowing environmental concerns have significantly influenced consumer behavior toward reducing single-use plastics. Government bans and restrictions on disposable bottles in many countries have propelled the shift toward sustainable, reusable alternatives. Health and Wellness TrendsRising awareness about hydration, fitness, and overall wellness has increased demand for water bottles that can be used in gyms, outdoor activities, and offices. Consumers prefer reusable options that align with their active lifestyles and health-conscious routines. Product Innovation and Material AdvancementsManufacturers are offering reusable bottles with features like temperature control, leak-proof designs, and eco-friendly, BPA-free materials. Innovations such as collapsible silicone bottles and smart hydration tracking devices are also attracting tech-savvy consumers. Corporate and Institutional AdoptionCorporate sustainability programs and initiatives in educational institutions to discourage plastic use are fueling bulk purchases of reusable water bottles. Promotional and branded merchandise trends have also made such bottles a popular choice for giveaways and employee engagement. E-commerce Expansion and Influencer MarketingOnline retail platforms and influencer-led campaigns have played a crucial role in enhancing brand visibility. The convenience of shopping online, combined with consumer reviews and aesthetically appealing designs, has accelerated market penetration across age groups. Key Growth Barriers – Reusable Water Bottles Market High Initial Costs and Price SensitivityReusable water bottles, particularly those made from premium materials like stainless steel or glass, often come with a higher upfront cost compared to single-use plastic bottles. This price disparity can deter cost-conscious consumers, especially in developing markets where affordability is a significant concern. The elevated production costs associated with sustainable materials and advanced features like insulation or filtration contribute to these higher prices, potentially limiting widespread adoption. Consumer Habits and Convenience of Single-Use BottlesDespite growing environmental awareness, many consumers continue to favor the convenience of single-use plastic bottles. These disposable options are readily available in various public settings, such as vending machines, events, and retail outlets, making them a more accessible choice for on-the-go hydration. Changing established consumer behaviors and encouraging the consistent use of reusable bottles remain significant challenges for market growth. Limited Public Refill InfrastructureThe scarcity of public water refill stations in many regions hampers the practicality of using reusable water bottles. Without adequate infrastructure to support easy refilling, consumers may find it inconvenient to rely solely on reusable options, particularly during travel or in areas where tap water quality is questionable. This limitation can discourage the consistent use of reusable bottles, especially in urban and developing areas lacking sufficient facilities. Market Saturation and Quality VariabilityThe influx of numerous brands and products into the reusable water bottle market has led to saturation, making it challenging for consumers to distinguish between high-quality and substandard options. The presence of counterfeit or low-quality products can erode consumer trust and satisfaction, potentially hindering repeat purchases and brand loyalty. Ensuring product quality and safety standards across the market is essential to maintain consumer confidence and support sustained growth. Malaysia's Public Transport Usage Just At 20 Pct, Says Loke

PETALING JAYA, June 4 (Bernama) -- The percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the figure remains below the 40 per cent target outlined in the National Transport Policy 2019–2030. 'The national transport policy from 2019 to 2030 is already in place. So, our challenge is how to ensure that this policy is realised according to its intended goals,' he said when met after the Ilmuwan Malaysia Madani Siri 6 forum at Menara Prasarana here today. The forum discussed the topic 'Transportation for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport', chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to Loke, other panel members were President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and Universiti Putra Malaysia Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. Commenting further, Loke said the implementation of the 'Road to Rail' initiative is currently being carried out in phases and is expected to have a significant impact on the country's logistics sector. 'We are actively promoting the use of rail. That's why one of our focus initiatives is 'Road to Rail' , to encourage more usage of railways for the transportation of containers and goods,' he said. 'When the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is completed, it will boost the use of rail to transport goods and containers to the East Coast, thereby reducing reliance on road transport such as lorries,' he added. -- BERNAMA

Indonesian, French firms partner up to develop efuels

JAKARTA: (Bernama-Xinhua) PT Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE), a sub-holding of Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, is collaborating with French firm MGH Energy to explore breakthroughs in the production of e-fuels, an official said on Wednesday (June 4), reported Xinhua. The partnership, formalised during the Indonesia-France Business Forum on May 28, focuses on the development of e-methanol and eSAF (e-sustainable aviation fuel), according to John Anis, CEO of PT Pertamina NRE. "Indonesia has a huge potential of renewable resources, from solar to hydro, which could be the basis for industrial-scale e-fuel production," said Anis in a statement issued Wednesday. He added that this strategic collaboration not only aims to develop innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions but also represents a valuable opportunity for technology transfer. It is expected to accelerate both the production and adoption of renewable energy in Indonesia. Fadjar Djoko Santoso, vice president of corporate communication at PT Pertamina, emphasised the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and achieving national environmental goals. "PT Pertamina NRE plays an important role in the transition to clean energy. This collaboration is a strategic step towards a more sustainable, fair, and open energy system," he said. MGH Energy is known for its focus on decarbonising the transportation sector, particularly in maritime and aviation. - Bernama-Xinhua
