Student attempts to bring knife to Killeen High School
KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – A Killeen High School student attempted to bring a knife to campus on Wednesday morning, according to Principal Dr. Kara Trevino.
Dr. Trevino issued a statement to families saying school staff acted swiftly and appropriately in response to the situation. The student involved was immediately addressed by campus administration and law enforcement. In accordance with the Killeen Independent School District's Student Code of Conduct, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Students or staff at no time were in immediate danger. Instruction has continued without interruption, and all students are safe.Dr. Trevino also took this time to encourage families to continue promoting the importance of reporting any suspicious or concerning behavior. Students can report safety concerns to a trusted adult, or an anonymous report can be made at www.KISDisSafe.com.

Courtroom chaos unravels as son charges at father's killer: ‘Going to eat your f–king heart'
Chaos exploded in a California courtroom Thursday when a grieving son charged at the man who killed his father in a shooting outside their family home. Israel Trevino III hurled threats and tried to hop over the court gate just moments after a judge sentenced convicted killer Joe Gomez Jr., to life behind bars. Wild video of the encounter showed officers rushing Gomez into the back rooms as Trevino's anguished shouts could be heard in the background. 4 Deputies rushed Gomez out of the courtroom as Trevino began shouting. The chaos lasted just two minutes, and Judge Arlan Harrell verbally reprimanded Trevino for the display. 4 Joe Gomez Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for killing Israel Trevino Jr. and shooting his son. 'The big question is, 'Why?' It's never been addressed. It's never been answered,' Harrell said in court. Gomez continues to maintain his innocence — and used his final words in court to criticize the legal system. 'The defendant, Joe Gomez's, constitutional due process rights to a fair trial and an impartial trial were violated with suppression of evidence by a state attorney and the conviction of (inaudible) perjury. I, Joe Gomez, am going to file an appeal with an appellate court,' he said. A judge on Thursday denied his request for a new trial.

Roundtop woman killed in crash southwest of Brenham
Brenham, Tx (FOX44) – A 63-year-old woman has died following a fiery crash in rural Washington County southwest of Brenham. The Department of Public Safety reports Rebecca Mayer of Round Top as pronounced dead at a hospital following the crash that occurred about 5:35 p.m. on Farm to Market Road 389 near FM 2502. DPS Sgt Justin Ruiz said Mayer was the driver of a 2023 Kia Soul that as going east on FM 389 when a 2015 Ford F150 pickup going west began a left hand turn, with the Kia striking it in the side. Killeen ISD names new Roy J. Smith MS principal
KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – The woman who has served as interim principal of Roy J. Smith Middle School since April will assume the role permanently. The Killeen Independent School District says before Dr. Bobbie Reeders stepped in as interim principal, she served as principal of Pathways Academic Campus since 2004. She has 31 years of education experience, which also includes serving on Killeen ISD's College Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) team and as the director for the district's Credit Recovery Program. PREVIOUS STORY: Interim principal of Roy J. Smith Middle School named Dr. Reeders earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, a Master's Degree from Tarleton State University, and a doctorate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dr. Reeders time as interim principal came after former principal Fredrick Lilly II submitted his resignation during the fallout of the fatal stabbing of Serenity Baker.
