Thug Life box office collection day 5: Expectations were high with what was going to be Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan's first film in 38 years after Nayakan. The Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha Krishnan-starrer Thug Life was released in theatres on Thursday. However, the film has not met the expectations of many, as it received mixed reviews. The latest Sacnilk report states that Thug Life has seen a sharp dip in its first Monday, collecting just above ₹40 crore. On Monday, Thug Life collected ₹3.11 crore as per early estimates. It is the lowest single-day collection for the film so far. Thug Life opened on Thursday with ₹ 15.5 crore, and was unable to show further growth in the next few days. The total collection of the film now stands at ₹40.01 crore. Most of its earnings are in place because of the Tamil version of the film.
The report also states that Thug Life had 17.21% Tamil Occupancy on Monday.
Thug Life revolves around the decades-long story of a feared mafia kingpin who seeks revenge after betrayal. The film also stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal and Rohit Saraf. The film released in theatres last week amid controversy over Kamal Haasan's comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise, and the film was not released in Karnataka.
Later, Kamal wrote an open letter to the KFCC, where he said, "My words were intended only to convey that we are all one and from the same family and not to diminish Kannada in any way. There is no dispute or debate on the rich legacy of the Kannada language.'

Baba Sehgal recalls getting threat from underworld asking him to stop making music: 'Bollywood was very insecure with me...'

Baba Sehgal revealed Bollywood's insecurities impacted his career. He found recognition in South Indian cinema after feeling sidelined in Bollywood. Sehgal shared he received underworld threats in 1998, warning him to stop singing. Despite the challenges, he continued his career. He also reflected on the turbulence in the entertainment industry during the late '90s. Rapper and music icon Baba Sehgal recently opened up about his challenging journey in the Hindi film industry, revealing how Bollywood's insecurities and industry pressures shaped his career. From feeling sidelined by Bollywood to gaining respect in South Indian cinema, Baba also shared a shocking encounter with the underworld that threatened his passion for music. In a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan, Baba reflected on his journey in regional cinema, sharing that the South Indian film industry gave him the recognition he never quite received in Bollywood. Citing his impressive body of work—including over 250 Telugu songs, 35–40 Tamil tracks, and more than 25 Kannada numbers—he said the South took him seriously and embraced his music. In contrast, he described Bollywood as being insecure about his presence right from the start. Sehgal believes his direct and upfront personality may not have aligned with Bollywood's expectations. He recalled how music directors would reach out to him, but perhaps found his demeanor or way of speaking off-putting. Despite rising to national fame in the early '90s with Indipop chartbusters like Thanda Thanda Paani, Baba feels his success outside the film industry may have made the Hindi film music scene uneasy and hesitant to fully embrace him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pistol de sudură laser multifuncțional siginificant Află mai multe Undo He also shared that he received a threat call from the underworld back in 1998—a time when such intimidation was not uncommon in the entertainment industry. While he never imagined being targeted as he considered himself 'just a singer,' the incident came as a shock. He recalled how the experience brought immense stress to both him and his family during that turbulent period. Baba further revealed that the underworld call he received in 1998 wasn't about extortion—but a warning to stop making music altogether. 'They told me to stop singing. The tone wasn't aggressive, but it was serious,' he recalled, adding that the calls often came at night, making it a deeply unsettling experience. Despite the threats, Baba chose to stay the course, building a successful career beyond Bollywood with the support of his loyal fans and the South Indian film industry. Baba Sehgal also reflected on the turbulence in the entertainment industry during the late '90s. He described it as a confusing period when non-film music declined, remixes took over, and the underworld gained influence. 'It wasn't just me; the entire industry was shaken,' he said, highlighting the widespread challenges artists faced during that era.

Be it stage or the screen, the moment the spotlight hits, I am no longer Siri, says Siri Ravikumar

For actress Siri Ravikumar , acting involves shedding her own identity to fully embody the character. 'On stage or screen, I am no longer Siri; the character that takes over. My focus is the character and only the character; never Siri. I don't bring Siri into any role; instead, I strive to become the character I'm playing and do justice to what the role demands,' says Siri, who received a Best Actress award last year for her performance in Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. In a chat with Bangalore Times, she discusses the opportunities that followed her win, her thoughts on the portrayal of female protagonists in cinema, the demands of theatre and film acting and what continuously draws her back to the stage… 'WINNING 'BEST ACTRESS' WAS A BOOST TO MY CONFIDENCE' Opening up about the opportunities that have come her way since winning the Best Actress award, Siri says, 'The award gave me a platform and boosted my confidence as an actor. But to be honest, the film industry is a bit dull right now — not just Kannada, but overall. There aren't many films or series being made. Still, I've been in conversations for two or three projects, which are likely to begin by July or August. I'm also active in theatre, so that keeps me going. ' I act because I love the process. The recognition is a bonus, But the real joy is in becoming someone else for a while — and telling their story Siri 'WORKING WITH KISHORE WAS EXTREMELY SPECIAL' Her recent theatre ventures include the productions of Love Letters and Parva. Speaking about Love Letters, where she shared the stage with seasoned Kannada actor Kishore, Siri recalls, 'Working with Kishore was truly special. Though he's such a well-known name in cinema, there was no air about him at all. This was his return to theatre after almost 20 years, and he just blended in beautifully.' 'THE FOCUS SHOULD BE ON TELLING WOMEN'S STORIES AUTHENTICALLY' On the portrayal of female protagonists in Kannada cinema, she says, 'The focus shouldn't be on making a 'women-centric' film, but on telling women's stories authentically. There are so many interesting stories that can be told from a woman's perspective — be it about a domestic worker, a mother, or a college student. Don't call her fierce or strong or anything, just tell her story. She could be flawed, she could fail — that's fine. Let's stop glorifying women and start writing them as people.' I feel extremely blessed and lucky to have played Prerna in Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. That role was written for me, how often does that happen. I'm so grateful for that Siri 'THEATRE GIVES ME A HIGH LIKE NO OTHER' For Siri, the difference between theatre and cinema is stark. 'Theatre is all in the moment; you rehearse endlessly, and then you get just one chance to get it right. On screen, there are retakes, but even there, you can't afford too many.' So, what keeps drawing her back to the theatre? 'The high of being on stage: those lights, that adrenaline, the instant connection with the audience. Every rehearsal, every performance brings something new. You watch the play grow from script to stage, and you know you were part of that magic,' she says. ' AS AN INDUSTRY, WE NEED TO TRY PLACING ACTORS IN NEW KINDS OF ROLES' The actress opens up about the challenges of being typecast, which she says is a common concern for actors once they gain recognition. 'That danger is always there; once something works, people want to see you do that again. I do believe that, we, as an industry, need to try placing actors in new kinds of roles and see what works. It shouldn't be one box forever,' she says.

Thug Life on OTT: Will Kamal Haasan and Simbu starrer break its 8-week streaming deal?

Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan and Simbu in the lead roles hit the big screens on June 5, 2025. Ahead of its release, the movie was said to have an 8-week OTT deal, but things may differ now. According to M9 News, the movie might be hitting the streaming service in 4 weeks, as per usual norms. The decision by the OTT giant Netflix is reported to be due to the Mani Ratnam directorial's failure, both commercially and critically. Ahead of its release, Haasan mentioned that the decision to have an 8-week deal for OTT was a 'pragmatic' one, but now it seems fans won't have to wait that long. However, an official confirmation is yet to be made by the makers and the streaming space. Talking about the movie, Thug Life is a gangster actioner featuring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles. The film features the tale of Rangaraaya Sakthivel, an ageing mafia crime boss who adopts a young boy, Amaran, after a shootout in Delhi. Years later, the man raises his foster son as his own, making him a formidable member of the mafia. With circumstances tying his hands, Sakthivel appoints his adopted son to lead the gang, which eventually leads to an animosity between them. As the story progresses, the film develops into a battle of death with father and son going head-to-head until one perishes. Apart from the lead actors, the movie had a large ensemble cast which consisted of Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and more in key roles. The flick, directed by Mani Ratnam, marked the director's reunion with Haasan after 3 decades. With AR Rahman crafting the musical tracks and scores, the movie was received with negative-to-mixed reviews. Moving ahead, Kamal Haasan is next set to appear in the tentatively titled KH237 with AnbArivu duo serving as the directors. On the other hand, STR is speculated to soon join hands with director Vetrimaaran for an action venture. He also has multiple films in the lineup.
