The launch features a fully digital and state-of-the-art showroom in Muscat, developed in partnership with Premium Motors, part of the Alfardan Group. The Czech automaker will offer a full range of its ICE models within the next months including spacious sedans and a broad SUV portfolio ranging from the compact Kushaq to the all-to the all-new 7-seater Kodiaq, also available with all-wheel drive.

Škoda Auto has partnered with Premium Motors, a member of the Alfardan Group. The strategic partnership brings Škoda's great value-for-money proposition, high quality and functionality as well as the brand's simply clever features to Omani customers. The first Škoda showroom, located in Muscat, is a cutting-edge facility that offers a fully digital, customer-oriented experience, including an interactive digital configurator and an immersive digital wall display. A motorsport corner within the showroom celebrates Škoda's dynamic racing legacy. The new facility in Muscat will also feature an exclusive Škoda service centre with 8 work bays that ensures comprehensive aftersales support. The brand plans to open three more showrooms and service centres across Oman by 2029, further solidifying its presence in the market.

MUSCAT, JUNE 5 Prominent Omani firms are among a total of 12 local and international consortiums that have been qualified by the Ministry of Finance to compete for the government's prestigious contract to develop and operate the Oman Business Platform (OBP) project – a vital government e-services platform - via the Public Private Partnership (PPP) route. In the fray at this stage of the competitive bidding process are consortiums led by: Al Madina, Bahwan CyberTek, Bahwan Engineering, Business Gateways, NELTA, Nortal, PwC, Quilix, Solutions by STC (Saudi Telecom Company), SSL Software Systems, Tata Consultancy Services and World CloudTurksat. They were shortlisted from among a total of 30 companies that sought to prequalify for this first-ever initiative to build and operate a digital hub designed to deliver seamless, efficient, and integrated government services. The Ministry of Finance, in its exclusive capacity as the orchestrator of PPP projects, is overseeing the procurement process on behalf of the project owner, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP). The project is one of several flagship initiatives unveiled under the latter's Digital Transformation Programme 2021-25. Launched originally as a One-Stop-Shop in 2003, the Oman Business Platform has undergone a succession of upgrades and enhancements – technological and qualitative – to serve as the government's principal digital vehicle for engagement with investors and the wider business community. 'The Oman Business Platform plays a crucial role as the central hub for business registration data in Oman, serving over 50 million records and supporting more than 36 government and private entities. This platform is vital for ensuring smooth e-government services across the country. On an average day, it handles 250,000 web service requests, processes 10,639 tasks and supports more than 50 online services and licensing-related services,' the Ministry of Finance explained in a backgrounder on the initiative. The successful vendor will be granted a 7-year contract (extendable by 1+1 year renewal periods) to operate the platform against a payment structure that includes 'both a fixed component and one or more variable components possibly related to platform revenue growth and/or transaction volume growth'. The Platform Operator will be required to enhance the platform's capability to deliver seamless, efficient, and integrated government services. 'As a digital hub for the community, the platform's enhancements will prioritise user engagement and streamlined service delivery. The vision includes refining user interfaces and improving backend systems to ensure a responsive and accessible digital environment for all users, ranging from local Omani businesses to international investors and the general public,' the Ministry of Finance added. In the next stage of the procurement process, the qualified contestants will be invited to submit proposals outlining their respective strategies for building and operating the platform. An award is anticipated before the end of this year.

The lively chatter and infectious smile of Filipinos—posters, banners, and handmade crafts—created an atmosphere that felt more like a lively festival than a formal celebration. The sights and smells pulled everyone into a shared experience: a moment to honour history, culture, and ongoing friendship. This event, which brought together representatives from both nations at the Sheraton Hotel in Muscat, marked two important milestones. First, the 127th anniversary of Philippine independence—an ode to resilience, hope, and a rich cultural history rooted in shared stories of struggle and triumph. And second, the 45th year since diplomatic relations officially blossomed between the Philippines and Oman, a relationship built on cooperation, understanding, and mutual benefit. Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr Nasser Rashid al Maawali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy of Oman, and with a delegation of distinguished officials, the event isn't just a celebration; it's a reflection of two nations that have grown ever closer across decades. Bridging Continents: 45 Years of Collaboration and Growth Looking back over the past four and a half decades, the relationship between Oman and the Philippines has expanded far beyond diplomatic courtesies. It's a journey grounded in shared economic interests, cultural exchange, and the contribution of Filipinos in Oman's development. Today, nearly 50,000 Filipinos work across Oman—teachers, engineers, healthcare workers, accountants, and service industry professionals—each one a bridge that connects the two countries through daily exchange, hard work, and friendship. Over the years, Oman and the Philippines signed several key agreements that solidified their ties. These included labour agreements ensuring the welfare of Filipino workers, cooperation in trade and investment, cultural exchanges, and collaborations in tourism. While relevant authorities are working to employ, train, and qualify Omanis for work in various available economic sectors, and to raise the percentage of "Omanisation" among qualified personnel in required specialties, today we find some countries attempting to distort this national and sovereign demand by proposing the idea of freezing "Omanisation" in some companies established through foreign investments. For more than three weeks, numerous messages and appeals have been circulating in the social media from citizens addressing government officials not to accept any condition restricting the employment of national workers in these companies in the event of bilateral trade agreements. This would lead to a doubling of the number of foreign employees in commercial establishments operating in the Sultanate, which would increase their control over the fate of Omanis and their ability to decide. This will also lead to a decline in the qualification opportunities for Omanis in these institutions. And ultimately will lead to an increase in annual remittances of expatriates to their home countries, thereby reducing liquidity in the domestic market. Many people view this country's request to freeze the "Omanisation" policy in the free trade agreement as a form of guardianship over the Omani labour market. When a country seeks to permanently guarantee its labour in vital sectors in another country, this sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the sovereignty of national decision-making. We know that foreign investment in any country seeks economic freedom, even in hiring its own workers, to reduce the final cost of any product or service. However, each country has its own laws, particularly regarding the employment of a certain percentage of national workers in these institutions, and Oman is no exception. However, I do not believe that the goal of freezing Omanisation will create chaos in the Omani market, as some suggest. However, there is a possibility that this could lead to some diplomatic tensions in specific commercial areas, which could be avoided by clarifying the country's policies. The world has experienced some problems resulting from the presence of its workers in other countries over the past decades. In certain cases, the issue of national labour or economic policies was used as a means to strain relations or improve a particular domestic situation. In international relations, there are solutions to resolve such disputes, and countries work to resolve them diplomatically to avoid escalation. We must view these issues and matters objectively, because governments typically seek to protect their national interests, and disputes related to labour and economic policies are often resolved through dialogue and agreements. The volume of Oman's foreign trade with countries around the world is increasing annually, and the quality of foreign investment projects is also increasing. Oman imports numerous products and goods, from around the world. And any demand to freeze the "Omanisation" policy will lead to a decline in demand from these countries. Furthermore, such a demand will lead to a decline in demand for joint big projects from such countries. All of these projects are part of efforts to enhance economic cooperation between countries, especially since recent years have witnessed an increase in the volume of investments and joint projects between Oman and these countries. Therefore, the presence of national labour alongside expatriate labor is a matter of sovereignty, and no country can propose a vision that excludes national labour from working in its country.
