Snoop Dogg reveals surprise new LP was inspired by Trump inauguration backlash: ‘Playin' with my reputation'

But the 'Drop It Like It's Hot' MC turned the controversy into creativity, inspiring his surprise new LP 'Iz It a Crime?' that drops on Thursday.

'That's why I made this album,' Snoop, 53, told the crowd at an intimate private event at Prive House in Manhattan on Wednesday, where he previewed his new album and short film.

He then spit some lyrics in response to those who have been blasting him and questioning his credibility: 'Too many n—-s playin' with my reputation/Step on my turf, you need an invitation.'
Snoop said that the album's title, 'Iz It a Crime?' was inspired by what he was going through as he lost fans, including over 500,000 Instagram followers.
'I felt like there was a lot of unanswered questions over the past six months,' he said. 'And I just wanted to answer them through my music.
'It's therapy for me to be able to express myself [through] my art,' he added of the LP, which features collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, Pharrell and Sexyy Red. 'Therapeutically, I was able to get off some answers that may have people trying to figure out where I'm going from here.'

On Thursday morning, Snoop again addressed the Trump inauguration backlash when he appeared on 'The Breakfast Club' radio show.
'I don't represent the Republican Party. I don't represent the Democratic Party. I represent the gangster party. Period,' he said, adding that the 30-minute DJ set booking wasn't an endorsement of Trump but rather a deal made with longtime business partner — and crypto czar — David Sacks.
'It was a crypto play meant to bring resources back to the hood,' Snoop said. 'That was the mission.'

Although he has been busy with everything from acting as a special commentator at the Summer Olympics last year to serving as a coach on 'The Voice,' Snoop is still passionate about making music.

He released his album 'Missionary' in December, then followed that with a gospel LP, 'Altar Call,' which dropped just a few weeks ago.
'That came out for my mother's birthday, in the spirit of my mother,' Snoop spoke about his mom, Beverly Tate, who passed away in 2021, to the Prive House audience. 'When she transitioned, her spirit became my spirit. So this is what she spread, the word.
'And doing life and things in her name and her spirit, I chose that opportunity to do that … It was good for the heart, it was good for the spirit.'

Snoop also bought Death Row Records — the label that launched him to stardom with 1993's 'Doggystyle' — in 2022. But he no longer wants the label to be associated with 'negative characteristics' such as gang violence.

And while he will be supporting other artists signed to his roster, Snoop is still very much inspired to make his own music, with three albums released in the span of five months.
'I'm to the point in my career now where … I don't just make music to make music,' he said. 'I do it when I feel it's necessary, when I feel like it's a void missing with my sound, my voice.'

Calling all fans of Gen Z pop culture: It looks like Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI have officially broken up. Well, maybe. Tate and LAROI are both singers, from Canada and Australia respectively, and they first sparked dating rumours around January 2024. They went Instagram official in July that same year, and have since joined each other onstage and even collabed on songs together. But after months of no public sightings of the couple — including at Tate's birthday party — along with speculation that The Kid LAROI was spotted holding hands with someone else, the internet has been buzzing with breakup rumours. And it appears The Kid LAROI just confirmed those rumours. It all started when The Kid LAROI dropped a new song called "HOT GIRL PROBLEMS" on July 25. Some fans suspected the song might be about Tate, pointing to lyrics like "Love can't keep her / she make sure you see her," which seems to align with Tate's eye-catching, Britney-esque vibe. (Although other fans insist the song was written a long time ago, so like, you never know.) AND BTW, I LOVE HER FOR IT. I won't tolerate ANY Tate slander. So then, LAROI fans started responding to the lyrics, calling out Tate and saying that she "fumbled" him. Along with that message, he also posted a screenshot of a text conversation in a group chat called "LAROI SOCIAL," which we can assume is between him and his team. "Guys is this coming internally? If so can we please have these taken down," he sent in the text conversation. But then, in the same text, he appears to hint at their potential breakup. "Tate and I are on good terms," he wrote, "and this just looks messy / whack." LAROI's team responded to his message approvingly: "definitely didn't come from us that's fucked up." Heavy metal icon battling ‘devastating' form of cancer gets married
David Roach, the frontman for popular heavy metal rock band Junkyard, got hitched to his fiancée, Jennifer, amid the rock star's ongoing battle with cancer. Junkyard shared an Instagram post on Sunday, July 20 capturing the wedding with the description, 'Congratulations to the happy couple — Mr. and Mrs. David Patrick Roach." Roach's child, Ray, also posted about the wedding on Instagram with the caption, 'Did you know that you can get a free wedding venue if you just do it in the cancer center lobby after hours? Welcome to the Roach fam Jennifer!' The members of Junkyard attended the ceremony as well, according to both Instagram posts. Roach wrote in a Jan. 21 Instagram post that he was 'going through a medical issue that I'll be dealing with for at least a few more months.' Junkyard later announced in a Jan. 31 Instagram post that Roach was hit with 'an aggressive cancer diagnosis.' The singer was admitted to the hospital last month after experiencing a persistent fever and cough. 'We're still struggling to process the news we received on Tuesday,' a June 26 Instagram post from Roach and Jennifer read. 'We got results that have completely shattered our world. It's devastating and life-altering, and we're trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.' Despite this uncertainty, Roach was 'showing such incredible strength and resilience,' according to the Instagram post. 'Even in the midst of this darkness, he's still managing to keep his sense of humor,' the post continued. 'It's a reminder of how amazing he is.' The band started donating a portion of every sale of their merchandise to help pay for Roach's medical expenses. The singer was also selling his plaque art to cover the cost of bills. Additionally, a GoFundMe was created in March to help the musician combat 'the financial strain from medical expenses and daily living costs.' The campaign has raised more than $35,000 to date. 'Your support means the world to David, and it will truly help him through this difficult period,' the GoFundMe reads. 'Thank you so much for showing him the love and kindness he deserves!' Junkyard formed in Los Angeles, California in 1987. The band, which is often compared to Guns N' Roses, possesses a 'raw and bluesy hard rock' sound 'with a metal accent and roots in hardcore punk,' according to AllMusic.
