Chicago child missing for 7 years found by U.S. Marshals
A Chicago child who went missing while in Illinois Department of Children and Family Services custody has been found by U.S. Marshals after seven years. The U.S. Marshals said they worked with the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Chicago Police Department to find the child, who has not been identified. Officials said on May 23, 2018, an infant who was in DCFS custody was reported missing. DCFS suspected the infant, who had become a ward of the state after being diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection, was with the biological mother but was not safe in her custody. Before authorities could find the baby, the mother ran away. Law enforcement said a warrant was issued for the mother on May 7, 2025 for contempt of court related to a yearslong battle to have the child returned. Then, on July 9, Chicago police asked U.S. Marshals for help getting the child back. An investigation led law enforcement to a home in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood. Officers set up surveillance to confirm the mother was there, and said they also saw the missing child's older sibling, who police said was wanted by CPD for aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child. On July 17, Marshals said they observed the mother, a teenager and a child who resembled the missing child leaving the home, and took the mother into custody. She at first gave police a fake name for the child, but U.S. Marshals said that when investigators used the child's real name, they were surprised but did confirm that was their actual name. The child, the teenager and an infant and toddler who were in the stroller at the time were put in DCFS custody upon the mother's arrest. The mother was booked in to Cook County Jail on outstanding warrants, police said. The missing child, who is still a ward of the state, was returned to DCFS custody and the older sibling that was wanted for sex assault was arrested the following day, law enforcement said. Police did not comment about ongoing custody related to the three other children with the missing child at the time of the mother's arrest. Neither the mother nor the child were identified and no further information was released.

Suspect in 2023 fatal Bronx car wash hit-and-run charged with manslaughter
A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run at a New York City car wash has been arrested more than two years after the accident killed an employee at the 24-hour business. Trina Bryant was arrested Wednesday after the NYPD said she struck and killed Felix Thomas Bontia in the Bronx in February 2023. She pled not guilty to an 11-count indictment charging her with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and more. According to police, Bryant was driving a Ford Escape with Georgia plates when it veered into a bus lane and struck a Toyota RAV4 that Bontia was drying off on Webster Avenue near 168th Street in the borough's Concourse Village section. Bontia was pinned between the cars and did not survive. Investigators at the time said there were two women in the Ford Escape, the driver and a front-seat passenger, who drove a short distance away before they fled on foot. The accident, which occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, was captured on surveillance video. Bontia worked at the car wash for about a year while his family was back home in Mexico, CBS News New York reported at the time. His friends and coworkers in the city said they called him Benito Felix. The driver in the RAV4 was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Aurora police say hit-and-run victim chases suspect driver after crash, holds him until officers arrive
Aurora police said that a driver who was injured in a hit-and-run crash early Friday morning chased down the suspect driver. Investigators said the crash happened about 6:30 a.m. at South Pitkin Road and South Buckley Road. According to the Aurora Police Department, the crash involved three vehicles: a Hyundai, a white Subaru and a Dodge Charger. The preliminary investigation suggests that all three vehicles were northbound on South Buckley Road when the driver of the Hyundai rear-ended the Subaru. That's when investigators believe the driver of the Hyundai ran away from the crash heading north on South Buckley Road. Investigators say the driver of the Subaru chased the driver of the Hyundai with the short foot chase ending a short distance away near Buckley and Arizona. That's when police said the driver of the Subaru got the other driver to the ground and pinned him there until officers arrived. Police said no weapons were involved in the crash or chase. According to officers, the driver of the Hyundai is 17 years old and was detained at the scene. Charges are pending further investigation but are expected to include hit-and-run. The driver of the Subaru is an adult and was taken to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Investigators said the Dodge Charger was driven by an adult and sustained minor damage in the crash, either by the Subaru or Hyundai after the initial crash. The driver of that vehicle was not injured. Some lanes in the area were closed to traffic after the crash during the investigation and cleanup.
