NEW DELHI:
Assam
chief minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma
on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav over his remarks in Parliament during the debate on '
Operation Sindoor
', accusing him of echoing Pakistan's narrative and being a "disgrace to Assam".
Taking to social media platform X, Sarma alleged that Gogoi's statements in the Lok Sabha proved he was "acting on behalf of Pakistan".
"His secret trip and close ties with the Pakistani establishment speak volumes," Sarma wrote.
Himanta claimed that Gogoi's family holds foreign citizenship, questioning his commitment to India.
"With his wife and both the kids holding foreign citizenship, he can leave India any time," Sarma said.
'He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as proud Indians.'
Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, had questioned the Modi government's strategy during the recent military operation against Pakistan following the
Pahalgam terror attack
.
He asked why the Centre did not take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) if the operation was meant to be "decisive".
"The most horrendous terror attacks have happened under your government," Gogoi said in the House, criticising the government for claiming "victory" while asserting that terror threats remained unresolved.
His remarks triggered uproar in the Lok Sabha and drew strong criticism from the BJP benches.

Giriraj: Assembly polls fight between Sanatan and those opposed to it

Patna: Senior BJP leader and Union minister on Sunday slammed Congress MP and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for questioning the process of electoral rolls revision in Bihar. He said the coming assembly elections in Bihar will be fought between Sanatan and those opposed to it. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Singh was on a two-day visit to Sitamarhi district where Union home minister Amit Shah and CM Nitish Kumar will lay the foundation stone for a grand temple of Mata Sita at Punaura Dham on Aug 8. The Begusarai MP not only invited people for the foundation laying ceremony of the Sita temple, but also attacked the opposition. Targeting Tejashwi, he asked, "What was the need to hide the name and identity of his wife? If she was a Christian, what was wrong in it? India accepts everyone." He even mentioned Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and said when the country accepted her, then Tejashwi's wife is also the daughter of this country. The firebrand leader also defined 'SIR' (special intensive revision) of the electoral rolls in Bihar in a new way. He said, "Today, politics is being run in the name of SIR (S for Sonia, I for Imran and R for Rahul)." He called Rahul "boss" and said, "Now the govt of terrorists will not be allowed to be formed." He accused the opposition of creating a ruckus on the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators and fake voters and said the NDA govt has strengthened the country's economic condition and national security, which was weakened by the previous Congress regimes. Attacking the UPA in the context of the proposed Sita temple, Giriraj said, "Those who even rejected Ram Setu cannot give importance to Janaki's temple? Today the Modi govt is engaged in establishing the glory of Mata Sita on the world stage." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He further said the next govt in Bihar will be formed by the NDA under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar. In a programme held at Nageshwar Sthan temple complex in Pupri town, Singh appealed to the people to participate in the foundation stone laying event of Mata Sita's temple on Aug 8. He said like Ayodhya, a grand temple of Mata Sita will be built in Sitamarhi, too. He appealed to the Sanatanis to remain united. "If the number of Sanatanis decreases, democracy will be in danger," he said.

Ashok Ram joins JD(U), calls Cong ‘B-team' of RJD

1 2 Patna: Former Bihar Congress president Ashok Ram on Sunday joined the JD(U) on Sunday, declaring CM Nitish Kumar a "necessity" for the state and branding the Congress as the "B-team" of the RJD. Ram, a six-time MLA and member of the Congress Working Committee, formally joined the JD(U) along with his son Atirek Kumar and supporters. JD(U) national working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha and state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha welcomed them into the party. Ram's move, just days before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's proposed "padyatra" in 18 districts from Aug 9 or 10, triggered speculation. Observers cited his alleged differences with senior Congress leaders and his demand for a ticket for his son from Samastipur as possible reasons for the defection. Speaking to the reporters before his induction, Ram said, "The Congress has no base in the state. The party has lost its identity because its decisions are taken either by the RJD or its national president, Lalu Prasad." Backing Nitish's leadership, Ram added, "The state needs the leadership of Nitish today more than ever, due to his vision, policies and welfare schemes for Dalit and Mahadalit communities. He is the NDA's leader and will remain so." Ram's entry was marked by a show of strength at JD(U)'s state headquarters, attended by ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Shrawan Kumar and senior party leaders. "His grassroots connect will strengthen the JD(U)," said Jha. Kushwaha called him a "seasoned, experienced, and grassroots leader" while Choudhary praised his wide acceptance across communities.
