Maxivision opens 10 Super Speciality Eye hospitals in Chennai

Chennai, Aug 3 (PTI) Eye care provider Maxivision has launched 10 super specialty eye hospitals across the city marking its entry into the state capital.
Maxivision currently operates eye care facilities in Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Salem, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Perambalur.
With the launch of Chennai operations, Maxivision has committed investments of Rs 100 crore to expand in all districts and towns across Tamil Nadu over the next two years.
Cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni inaugurated a super specialty eye hospital in the presence of Maxivision Eye Hospitals Group Chairman and Managing Director GSK Velu along with senior officials at an event, here, on Saturday.
The hospitals, which are currently operational across the city, are equipped with robotic femto-laser cataract surgery, advanced diagnostics for retina, cornea and glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy treatment and corneal transplantation among others.
This strategic expansion directly addresses the city's escalating burden of cataract, glaucoma and lifestyle driven vision disorders, Maxivision said in a press release on Sunday.
Commenting on the expansion in the metro, Velu said, 'It is long-term overdue and we are pleased to arrive in Chennai..Today marks a strategic step forward in expanding our footprint in the high-demand, high-potential market of Chennai." The Chennai launch by MS Dhoni is aligned with the long-term vision to build a strong, decentralised ophthalmic infrastructure that can effectively address the growing burden of cataract, retina, glaucoma and several other vision disorders, he said.
'With this expansion, Maxivision reinforces its commitment to shaping the future of eye care delivery in Chennai and Tamil Nadu, " he noted.
Last year, Maxivision Super Specialty Eye Hospitals signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu committing Rs 400 crore investments to launch its project 'Velicham' (Light) which aims to offer affordable eye care to underserved regions besides generating employment and enhancing ophthalmic training and research. Ayushman Bharat scheme: Haryana govt releases funds, restarts payments to private hospitals
Gurgaon: Days before 650 private hospitals in Haryana were set to withdraw from Ayushman Bharat services over dues, State Health Agency (SHA) on Tuesday announced that fresh budgetary funds were released by the Haryana govt and claim payments have been restarted. SHA, which said payments to empanelled hospitals had been initiated on Aug 4 on a first-in-first-out (FIFO) basis, also urged stakeholders "not to disrupt services". On July 28, Haryana chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) issued a letter, which warned of halting services under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) from Aug 7, citing long-pending dues and claim rejections. In a statement, the SHA said, "We remain committed to ensuring transparency, timely disbursement of payments and strengthening public-private partnerships under Ayushman Bharat. We urge all stakeholders to sustain their collaborative efforts to serve the people of Haryana." Claims up to the first week of May 2025 were already processed and paid, SHA officials said. However, the private hospitals still plan to withdraw from the scheme starting Aug 7 if their dues aren't cleared to satisfaction, even as hospitals say "months of claims remain unpaid". Former president of IMA (Haryana) Dr Ajay Mahajan said, "We are still going to withdraw the services from Aug 7. All Ayushman empanelled hospitals of Haryana are unable to function as all payments are not cleared. The responsibility of any inconvenience caused to the poor people of Haryana will lie completely on the shoulders of the govt of Haryana, which is neither providing adequate budget nor smoothening the process of this scheme. " Meanwhile, SHA said the claims are processed by a 50-member team of doctors via the NHA's online platform, with case allocation done randomly to ensure "impartiality". "All deductions follow NHA guidelines and are made only when supporting documents like vital charts, OT notes, or diagnostic reports are missing. Hospitals are given the opportunity to appeal against such deductions, which are reviewed by a medical audit committee," SHA said. SHA also acknowledged concerns raised over delayed payments and non-processing of claims. Over 400 grievances from hospitals were formally resolved through the CGRMS 2.0 portal, it said, adding that more training sessions will be held to help hospitals use the system effectively. As regards another long-standing issue, the SHA said hospitals that earlier received approval for NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) incentives through the HEM 1.0 portal will remain eligible as long as their certificates are valid. Fresh applications must now be submitted through the HEM 2.0 portal. The agency said Haryana is the first state to include IMA representatives in both district-level and state-level medical audit and grievance redressal committees.

Anganwadis are centres of sanskar in society, says CM
Jaipur: Praising the efforts of in the state, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said Tuesday that anganwadi centres are 'centres of Sanskar' (values) in society. He was addressing over 1,200 anganwadi workers at the 'Anganwadi Behen Samman Samaroh' ahead of the Rakshabandhan festival. Along with the distribution of nutrition under various govt schemes, they are also working to make children strong and healthy." The chief minister also transferred Rs 501 each to 1.21 lakh anganwadi workers of the state through direct bank transfer. He also announced a two-day free travel facility on Aug 9-10 on ordinary buses of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation on Raksha Bandhan. On Tuesday, roadways wrote to the state govt seeking administrative and financial approval from the transport department for free bus service. Roadways said that 8.5 lakh women are likely to benefit from this announcement, which will cost Rs 14 crores to the corporation. At the program, the chief minister also launched the Balahar premix packet for malnourished children, which contains milk. In this packet, the quantity of skimmed milk has been increased from 15-25 gram. Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari, who also tied a Rakhi to the CM, said the govt is working with full sensitivity for the all-round development of the women of the state. "The state govt is empowering and enriching the lives of the mothers and sisters of the state through various schemes, which will make the dream of developed India-developed Rajasthan come true. In the recent budget, the honorarium of anganwadi workers was increased by 10% in two years," she said.

Karnataka government set to regulate private ambulances by amending law
Bengaluru: The state govt has decided to amend the law to regulate private ambulances, especially their fares. "We'll be coming out with an amendment to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act any day and bring all ambulance service providers under its ambit. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This will allow us to regulate ambulance-hiring charges, grade fixation, service, etc," health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said. "At present, there's no licensing or specific registration facilities for ambulances and mobile medical units. Both of these will be brought under the KPME Act," he added. Rao's statement came after reports about a private ambulance charging Rs 8,500 to take a patient from Goraguntepalya to Victoria Hospital. "The health department has already taken the issue of private ambulances charging exorbitant rates seriously... I appeal that the health sector should be viewed with a service mindset and not just from a business perspective," the minister had posted on social media. Health officials told TOI the state govt aims to follow the Singapore model that has a central command centre, which will be used to track and monitor both private and govt ambulances. This could be a game-changer in emergency response as ambulances will be strategically stationed across the city and state, and not just at hospitals, an official added. At present, govt ambulances are equipped with a GPS tracker to help patients get to the nearest healthcare facility. The govt's 108 service has 88 ambulances across the city, but private ambulances run in the hundreds in Bengaluru alone. The new system would prevent underhand dealings among ambulance drivers to take patients to certain hospitals, a private hospital doctor opined.
