Belarus scales back planned military drills with Russia
Belarus is a key Russian ally and allowed its territory to be used as a staging post for Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Kyiv, as well as Poland and the Baltic states, have repeatedly expressed alarm about possible military build-ups in the country.

"We have decided to reduce the parameters of the 'Zapad-2025' exercise and to move its main manoeuvres deep into the territory of the Republic of Belarus, away from the western borders," Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin said in a statement posted Wednesday on the Ministry's Telegram channel.
"The number of troops participating in the drills will be cut almost by half," General Valery Revenko, the head of the ministry's department for international cooperation said at a security forum in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.
Russian state media reported around 13,000 soldiers were originally set to take part in the drills.
Defence minister Khrenin said the move was "to demonstrate to our allies and partners around the world the truly peace-loving position of the Republic of Belarus."
The Zapad military drills usually involve tens of thousands of troops in a show of force close to Belarus's western border with EU and NATO members.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky last month warned Russia was "preparing something" in Belarus "using military drills as cover.
"That's usually how they start a new attack," he said.
Around 200,000 troops participated in the 2021 edition of Zapad, staged just months before Moscow invaded Ukraine.

Papers torn, MPs come close to scuffle as Lok Sabha sees pandemonium over Bill to remove ministers detained on graft charges
Lok Sabha on Wednesday afternoon witnessed stormy scenes, unprecedented in the past decade, over the introduction of the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to remove a Central or State Minister who is facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and has been detained for at least 30 days. In a rare moment, BJP and TMC MPs came close to a scuffle in the Well of the House. As soon as Union Home Minister Amit Shah rose to introduce this and other Bills, MPs from the Trinamool Congress stormed the Well of the House, shouting slogans. They were, however, not joined by other members of the Opposition at that moment. Congress MPs stood up to speak against the Bill and opposed its introduction. Things became tense when Congress MP K C Venugopal, while opposing the Bill, brought up the issue of Shah's arrest in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case. Shah stood up to say that he had resigned as Gujarat Home Minister before the arrest. As the verbal duel reached its crescendo, Venugopal tore the Bill and threw it in the Well. This was followed by other Congress MPs and opposition party members, including Samajwadi Party's Dharmender Yadav, doing the same. After this, all opposition MPs came to the Well of the House and started shouting slogans. Amid all this, TMC's Kalyan Banerjee, in an apparent bid to be heard, came close to Shah's mic while he was speaking on the Bill and started shouting slogans. Seeing this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju rushed to Shah's seat and angrily asked Banerjee to step back. Taking the cue, the entire Treasury Beaches moved towards the TMC MPs. They came so close that Shah himself had to intervene, asking people to calm down.
