Republican announces bid to unseat Dem U.S. Rep. Landsman in district covering Warren County
Eric Conroy, a Cincinnati Republican, bills himself as the product of four generations of blue-collar workers. He told Fox News Digital ahead of his announcement that he wants to be a "common-sense advocate" in Washington, D.C.
He's running to represent Ohio's 1st Congressional District, which covers much of Cincinnati, the eastern portions of Hamilton County, and all of Warren County, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
His campaign website outlines a political platform that includes tighter border security, supporting school choice, protecting crypto from over-regulation, cutting burdensome code as a means to help small businesses, and more.
The website also calls out Landsman for a 2023 vote against a U.S. House resolution that generally prohibits transgender women from participating in women's scholastic sports.
"Eric believes that women's sports should be reserved for biological females to ensure fair competition. He supports legislation that clearly defines sex based on biological difference in federal law to protect the fairness of women's athletic competitions from elementary school to college," his website reads.
Landsman was first elected to the U.S. House in 2022, defeating a Republican incumbent with 52.8% of the vote. When he was reelected in 2024, Landsman became the first Democrat to represent OH-1 in consecutive terms in decades.
At the time, Landsman credited his electoral success to his practical approach.
"Voters want normal, pragmatic, reliable, and bipartisan leadership — and they know they get that with me and our team. We get things done for folks in southwest Ohio. We do the work, and we do it in a bipartisan way," he said.

Plans for new offence to crack down on promoting Channel crossings online
Anyone who advertises Channel crossings or fake passports on social media could face up to five years in prison under new plans. Ministers are seeking to create a new offence under the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill already going through Parliament, to widen its scope to tackle illegal entry to the UK. The offence would also outlaw the promise of illegal working being promoted online and could carry a large fine. It comes as the Government grapples with a record number of migrants arriving in the UK after crossing the English Channel. On Wednesday, arrivals passed more than 25,000 for the year so far, a record for this point in the year. Assisting illegal immigration to the UK is already a crime, but officials believe the changes will give more powers to police and other agencies to disrupt criminal gangs. According to analysis by the Home Office, around 80% of migrants arriving to the UK by small boat told officials they used social media during their journey, including to contact agents linked to people smuggling gangs. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: 'Selling the false promise of a safe journey to the UK and a life in this country – whether on or offline – simply to make money, is nothing short of immoral. 'These criminals have no issue with leading migrants to life-threatening situations using brazen tactics on social media. We are determined to do everything we can to stop them, wherever they operate. The National Crime Agency already works with social media companies to remove posts promoting crossings, with more than 8,000 taken offline in 2024. NCA director general of operations Rob Jones said the proposed new offence will give them more options of how to target gangs and their business models. Previous cases that could have been targeted under the proposed offence include a Preston-based smuggler jailed for 17 years for posting videos of migrants thanking him for his help. Albanian smugglers who used social media to promote £12,000 'package deals' for accommodation and a job in the UK on arrival would also be in scope. The Conservatives said it was 'too little, too late' and that only their proposal to automatically deport people who enter Britain via unauthorised routes can tackle small boat crossings. Shadow home secretary Chris Philp said: 'Tinkering at the edges won't fix the problem. 'Labour still has no clear plan to deter illegal entry, no effective enforcement and no strategy to speed up removals. This is a panicked attempt to look tough after months of doing nothing. 'The only clear and enforceable plan is the Conservative Deportation Bill, a no-nonsense strategy that allows us to detain illegal arrivals immediately and remove them without delay. The British public deserve focused action, not more of Labour's dithering.'

The widely respected economist was confirmed on a bipartisan 86-8 Senate vote, with support from Vice President JD Vance, who was then an Ohio senator, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, then a Florida senator. But Dr. McEntarfer was suddenly caught in the political crossfire on Friday when President Trump lashed out over the agency's most recent jobs report and fired her for releasing monthly jobs data showing surprisingly weak hiring. He called the data 'rigged' without offering any evidence, and he accused Dr. McEntarfer of manipulating the job numbers 'for political purposes.' Dr. McEntarfer was appointed to her most recent post by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. in 2023. Before that, she earned her stripes at the Census Bureau, where she worked for over two decades under both Republican and Democratic presidents. She graduated from Bard College with a bachelor's degree in social sciences, and she obtained a Ph.D. in economics at the Virginia Tech. She began her career as an economist at the Census Bureau, where she worked for six years, according to her LinkedIn profile. In 2008, she joined the Treasury Department, where she analyzed the president's budget as well as the effect of tax policy proposals on revenue. Dr. McEntarfer returned to the Census Bureau in 2010, assuming more of a leadership role. Video of racial slur yelled during the brutal Cincinnati beatdown emerges
New footage showing the racial slur that was shouted during the brutal beatdown in Cincinnati, Ohio, last weekend has emerged. In the video, someone can be heard yelling the N-word as the violence begins to unfold, though it is unclear who exactly said it and to whom it was directed. Attorney Brandon Fox, who represents defendant Jermaine Matthews, told Fox News' CB Cotton that "it was not a Black, racist mob attacking people. These were separate fights that were triggered by racial slurs that ultimately poured gasoline on the fire." Fox also said that his client was not involved in smaller fights, but rather was trying to break them up. Matthews only got involved when he was slapped by a "taller White man," according to Fox. Matthews is facing charges of aggravated riot and assault, and his bond was set at $100,000 on Wednesday, according to FOX 19. However, he returned to court on Thursday where he faced two new counts of felonious assault and one for misdemeanor assault. According to FOX 19, the judge then set new bonds that pushed the total to $270,000. Attempts to de-escalate the fight, such as one man yelling at an assailant that the victim was 62 years old, did not seem to bring down tensions. One woman, identified as Holly, was knocked unconscious in the incident that took place between Elm and Fourth Streets. The city has been roundly criticized this week over its handling of the brawl, which set the internet ablaze. Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval responded publicly late Monday, after the beating had been circulated for about 36 hours. He had been on vacation in Canada and announced plans to cut it short and return to the city on Thursday. "Let me be clear, there is no place for violent crime in Cincinnati, whether it's fight or gun violence, we will pursue those responsible and we will hold them accountable no matter who they are, period," Pureval said at a news conference on Friday. Additionally, a city councilwoman, Victoria Parks, is also facing public scrutiny after she said on Facebook that the victims of the attack "begged for that beat down!" Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge later revealed that out of the approximately 100 people who witnessed the incident or were involved in the fight, only one called law enforcement. "Trust me when I say this, had the Cincinnati Police Department been notified in real time, our officers would have responded with urgency and force to protect life," Theetge said at the news conference on Friday. So far, four arrests have been made in connection to the brawl. In addition to Matthews and Merriweather, Dekyra Vernon and Dominique Kittle have also been arrested and are facing charges. Merriweather is facing one count of felonious assault, one count of misdemeanor assault and one count of aggravated rioting. His bond has been set at $500k total. Vernon is also facing charges of felonious assault, misdemeanor assault and aggravated rioting, but her bond was set at $200k. While Matthews' attorney claims his client did not know Merriweather, detectives said in court earlier this week that the two coordinated with each other. Meanwhile, Kittle, who is charged with aggravated rioting and misdemeanor assault, had his first court appearance on Saturday. His bond was set at $150k. Additionally, his attorney said on the record that Kittle suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
