Richa Chadha receives backlash over 'natural birth' comment over her daughter's post, responds: 'My page, my vagina...'
In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, celebrities are always under the public eye. whether it is their event appearances, post-gym looks, airports look or personal life. One such similar case happened when actress Richa Chadha took to her Instagram and posted pictures of her daughter Zuneyra's first birthday. Celebrating this heartfelt, her post soon turned into a conversation around motherhood, birth choices, and feminism. This led to Richa being at the centre of backlash over her use of the phrase 'natural birth.'. However, Richa gave it back to them. Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's daughter turns 1
Actress Richa Chadha and husband Ali Fazal embraced parenthood last year and welcomed their baby girl on 16th July, 2024. They named their daughter Zuneyra Ida Fazal, but have chosen not to reveal her face to the public yet.
This year, their baby girl turned 1 and taking to Instagram, Richa shared a video on Instagram titled 'Thank you Zuni'. The post featured personal clips of her pregnancy journey from Ali touching her baby bump to cosy getaways and playful moments with their pet cat. Recalling this moment, Richa said, 'For bringing so much colour into all our lives! A year ago, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Breach Candy Hospital. Labour lasted a few hours, delivery only about 20 minutes, natural birth! Life hasn't been the same since, particularly for me.' Why were Netizens triggered by Richa Chadha's Post?
After her post, netizens were quick to react. Some people were triggered by the word 'natural birth' and found it dismissive and derogatory toward those who had caesarean births. One user wrote, 'Every birth is natural, thanks to science nowadays they're being assisted to help the Mom and the kid.' Another user remarked, 'Please the word normal meant everything to every mothers don't say it like that because it hurts others who feel like they don't have the mind and zeal to go through it so saying it like that normal it traumatizing and if you meant the other way around to say normal delivery then even the ones that are Caesarian is normal because over 50% of women are doing it.'
But Richa did not back down. She gave back to the users and replied in the comment section, 'If I said normal delivery, you'd have said the same thing.' She also firmly added, 'But what if I don't wanna say vaginally delivery, it is my page and also my vagina and my baby. And feminism taught me to use words of my choosing. So.'
She further wrote in her caption, 'I feel rearranged from the insides out… my brain, my heart, my body, my soul… Zuneyra was born a year ago, and so was I. Reborn as a mom. An entirely new being than what existed before. A life and child with the man of your dreams… if this isn't a blessing, I don't know what is.'
Richa and Ali met on the sets of Fukrey and tied the knot in September 2022. Speaking of their work. Richa was last seen in Heeramandi and will next be seen playing a high-functioning entrepreneur in a new film. Meanwhile, Ali Fazal was last spotted in Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino.
