The best places to live in the UK if you are desperate to attempt to save for a house deposit have been revealed and seven of the locations are in Scotland
For most, buying their first home in the UK isn't easy. With soaring house prices and hefty deposits, it often feels impossible for first-time buyers to get onto the property ladder.
Purchasing a home is not only one of the biggest decisions anyone can make, but also one of the most significant financial commitments. There are several factors to consider when saving for a house, and it can take years to get to the amount you need for a deposit.

With this in mind, experts have now revealed the best places to live in the UK for those looking to save a house deposit quickly - and Scotland has landed on top.

Property Buyers Today have compiled a list of the top ten areas across the UK that are the ideal location for those who are hoping to climb the property ladder.
The property company found Inverclyde in Scotland to be the best place in the UK to save for a house deposit. With people in the area requiring just 18 months to save enough money for the average down payment.
By analysing data from the HM Land Registry's House Price Index and the Office for National Statistics' Gross Domestic Household income figures, the study looked at where people could save for a deposit the fastest while making manageable mortgage payments.
Seven out of the top 10 most affordable locations to save for a home are in Scotland.

Inverclyde takes the top spot, with an average house price of £112,849 and a required deposit of £11,285. With an average household income of £37,964 buyers can realistically save for a deposit in just 17.8 months, while facing the UK's lowest monthly mortgage payments of £627.
Aberdeen City and East Ayrshire followed closely, both requiring just one year and eight months to save for a house deposit. While the average house price in Aberdeen is £140,831, East Ayrshire is slightly less expensive with £127,521.
The average mortgage payment in Aberdeen averages at £783, and £709 in East Ayrshire.

Other Scottish regions in the top five are West Dunbartonshire and North Ayrshire, each needing less than one year and 10 months to save for a deposit, with mortgage payments in West Dunbartonshire being £690 per month and £723 per month in North Ayrshire.
Saif Derzi, the founder of Property Buyers Today, stated: "These findings clearly show the North-South divide in housing affordability, with Scottish locations offering a much faster path to homeownership.
"First-time buyers face a genuine struggle to get on the property ladder in many parts of the UK, especially in the Southeast where saving for a deposit at current rates would take decades rather than years."
"Relocating to more affordable areas like Inverclyde or Aberdeen could be life-changing for prospective homeowners, reducing the deposit saving time from potentially decades to less than two years," he concluded.

Asked in an exclusive interview with The Herald about new routes, taking into account how demand from travellers was developing, Gordon Dewar said: 'We think the Chinese and the Indian markets and other Asian markets are clearly things we should be working on, and we are.' While he said he was 'not going to speculate' on what would happen on this front, Mr Dewar added: 'The growth there demonstrates the opportunity. 'We just work quietly and we celebrate them [new routes] when they arrive.' He highlighted a major uplift in travel to destinations to which new, direct long-haul routes were launched. Mr Dewar said 'longer-haul new destinations add 30% to 50% to travel', noting direct routes meant journeys were 'less time-consuming". He highlighted Edinburgh Airport's success in winning direct flights between the Scottish capital and Beijing operated by Hainan Airlines, which revealed recently it was extending this service to year-round. Mr Dewar said: 'Hainan were one of many Chinese airlines we talked to. They were the one that responded first to really compelling data about why Chinese airlines will be very successful flying to Edinburgh." He flagged 'tens of thousands of Scots travelling between Scotland and Beijing…having to do it through other destinations' previously. Read more It was announced in late April that Hainan's direct service to Beijing would be increasing from seasonal to year-round. Edinburgh Airport has also enjoyed significant success in recent times in winning and building direct flights to North America, serving various key destinations in the US and Canada. It was announced in the spring that United Airlines is extending its service between Edinburgh and Washington DC to what the airport characterised as 'almost year-round'. In March, it was confirmed that Air Canada would launch a new direct route between Edinburgh and Montreal this summer. Mr Dewar said: 'We got a new Montreal route that was probably at least in part motivated by the reduction in traffic between Canada and America. We would have got Montreal at some point. I am not sure we would have got it this year if it hadn't been for that disruption.' In 2012, the year in which Mr Dewar took up the chief executive post at the airport, the passenger total was 9.19 million. Asked about the airport's capacity, in the context of its rapid increase in passenger numbers in recent years and the further expansion of flights projected, Mr Dewar replied: 'We have to build quickly…but we are not at the stage of being full yet. That has been true since 2012 where, apart from Covid, we have been in a constant build programme to keep up with that demand. 'We have got the space. We have got the funding. It is just a matter of getting it all lined up and making sure it lands the day before it is needed.' Mr Dewar highlighted the scale of the growth in the long-haul segment at Edinburgh Airport, and the general reduction in domestic traffic as things he did not foresee when he became chief executive. He underlined the extent to which overall passenger growth at Edinburgh Airport had been driven by international flights. Mr Dewar said: 'The ratio of international [traffic] we have is higher. All the growth is international. We have increased our proportion of inbound [passenger traffic]. The American routes – they tend to be stronger inbound demand.' Asked if he would in 2012 have envisaged passenger numbers being where they are now, Mr Dewar replied: 'We had a five-year plan [in 2012] which we slightly bettered.' 'Thirteen years later, the mix is slightly different from what I expected. No one would have seen the reduction in domestic and during Covid.' He declared that 'no one would have seen the growth in long haul'.

Private investment and quicker environmental reviews can help fast-track A9 dualling between Inverness and Perth by up to four years, according to a Tory blueprint backed by an SNP veteran. Russell Findlay's party is plotting an emergency law to ensure upgrades to widen the busy route are finished in the next Scottish Parliament's lifetime – up to May 2031. 'Enough's enough,' he said, speaking exclusively on The Stooshie, the weekly political podcast from the P&J. 'People who use that road realise that the time for excuses is long gone.' The idea has already won the backing of Fergus Ewing, the MSP for Inverness and Nairn and vocal critic of SNP progress on the promised upgrade. 'I welcome this proposal,' Mr Ewing told the Press and Journal. 'The SNP government has plainly broken pledges, and lost trust.' The Conservatives want a portion of the Scottish Government's transport budget to be ringfenced for the dualling scheme to ensure work does not stall. Mr Findlay believes the private sector should be brought in to attract more funding for the road. This would involve using 'infrastructure investment partnerships' with individual businesses, aiming to reduce costs when finding contractors for sections of the project. 'I think that would do a lot to focus the minds of hard-headed investors to get the job done,' he said. The Tories also say environmental impact assessments carried out on each section of the A9 should be 'expedited'. 'We have to respect the impact on the environment of any infrastructure project, but these can take over a year,' Mr Findlay told The Stooshie. The SNP originally promised to complete A9 dualling by this year, but admitted in 2023 that was no longer. A new timetable to finish the project a full decade from now is in place. Laura Hansler, an A9 campaigner from Kincraig, backed the Tory proposals in principle. 'The suggestions are fantastic,' she said. But she warned 'further clarity' is needed over how exactly the emergency law would prevent further delays. The Scottish Greens are opposed. 'Environmental impact assessments are an important legal requirement,' said Mark Ruskell, a party MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife. A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: 'We are fully committed to dualling the A9 and have prioritised funding for this programme within our annual budgets. 'We are also actively considering whether there is any way that we can fast-track work, including opportunities for undertaking 'advance works' ahead of main construction contracts.'
