Ireland to face India in Dublin double-header: ‘It's invaluable preparation for the Pro League'
The senior men's squad will play back-to-back games on Monday June 2 and Tuesday June 3 in Pembrooke.
Before that – on Friday May 30 – an Irish Development Squad will face the Indian tourists.
Both Ireland and India will use this series as vital preparation for the next leg of the FIH Pro League, with both squads set to travel to Amstelveen to take on the Netherlands at the iconic Wagener Hockey Stadium.
Looking ahead to the India Series, Head Coach Mark Tumilty said: 'This is a fantastic opportunity for both our Senior and Development squads to test themselves against one of the world's top teams. It's not often we get the chance to welcome a top eight nation like India to Irish soil, and these matches will be invaluable in our preparation for the upcoming FIH Pro League fixtures.
'For our Senior players, it's a chance to sharpen our game against world-class opposition, while for our Development Squad, it's an exceptional learning experience and a rare opportunity to play at this level. We're looking forward to three high-quality matches and to building momentum as we head into a crucial phase of the season.'

World Rapid and Blitz Teams
It was a treat to see so many of the world's top players in London for the World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships last week. Now in its third edition, the event has an unusual format, in which teams of six must include one female player and one rated below 2000 (roughly, a strong club player). That drew a sociable mix of teams, including traditional clubs, both from the UK and abroad, some national teams, and some teams with corporate sponsorship. My team, Malcolm's Mates (Malcolm Pein is the federation's international director), had a considerable overlap with the English national team, with additional strong players from abroad. But we were knocked out of the blitz event by WR Chess, whose team of superstars (including the reigning world blitz champion Ian Nepomniachtchi, as well as Hikaru Nakamura and Alireza Firouzja) went on to win the whole thing. In the final round of the rapid event, we were beaten by the winning team MGD1, named after the Indian chess management firm whose star player is 21-year-old Arjun Erigaisi, currently ranked fourth in the world. Perhaps the most beautiful game of the event was the one below, in which Erigaisi was beaten by Viswanathan Anand. The former world champion, now the deputy president of Fide, remains a formidable player at the age of 55 and represented the team Freedom, who also sponsored Fide's individual World Rapid and Blitz event in New York last year. Anand joked later that the game made him feel like a one-trick pony, referring to the similarity with his celebrated game against Levon Aronian at Wijk aan Zee, 2013, in which his bishops also bore down on the white kingside with decisive effect. Maro Itoje to captain Lions for first time against Argentina

The Scotland wing is part of a heavy duty three-quarter line that features England try machine Tommy Freeman and bulldozing centres Bundee Aki and Sione Tuipulotu. As many as 14 players could make their Lions debuts in the tourists' first-ever match on Irish soil, among them the rising star of English rugby Henry Pollock, following his selection on the bench. Pollock – at 20 years old, the squad's youngest player – provides cover for starting flankers Tom Curry and Jac Morgan. Much of Farrell's first-team selection as Lions head coach picked itself, given 15 of his stars were involved in the URC and Gallagher Premiership finals on Saturday, effectively ruling them out against Argentina. Kelleher's participation at Croke Park was limited to 25 minutes off the bench. 'We know that Argentina will challenge us up front and out wide – so Friday night will be a tough contest, but also a great occasion for all the fans,' Farrell said.
