The Kansas City Chiefs continue to progress through OTAs with mandatory minicamp approaching in the coming days and training camp ahead next month. For now, veterans are working back into football shape and the younger guys are finding their legs.

While the rookies get their own minicamp following the draft, much of this process is somewhat of a baptism by fire. They are not thrown into game situations, but instead tasked with holding their own against veteran competition in a controlled setting.
Some take these experiences in stride, dealing with little to no setbacks in the process. Others find that the learning curve is not so steep through their progression.
Rookie Nohl Williams appears to fall into that latter category. The cornerback, selected in the third round out of Cal, still has some adjustments to make in handling the size, speed and all around ability at the professional level.
Chiefs defensive backs coach Dave Merritt noted Williams' struggles thus far, sharing some brutally honest feedback from his first few weeks at OTAs.

"His head is spinning a little bit. A lot of volume," Merritt said. "He's playing one position, corner. For that one position, he needs to continue to grow."
Williams touts an impressive resumé despite his status as a third-round pick. He enters the league with a reputation as a ballhawk in the college ranks, leading all of NCAA Division I in interceptions last season with seven.
However, the All-American has learned the NFL presents an entirely different challenge at his position with an abundance of remarkable receiving talent spread across all 32 teams.
Luckily, this is a natural symptom of life as a young defensive back in the NFL. The younger crop tend to get picked on when they hit the field in their early years.

And in Kansas City, there is certainly an expectation to adapt quickly. That's not to say the Chiefs are not focused on development, rather that process happens at a much faster rate when the team continually finds themselves competing for championships.
That should also work in the rookie's favor surrounded by veterans in the defensive backfield, including Trent McDuffie who has two Super Bowls to his own resumé. McDuffie entered the league under similar circumstances with the Chiefs and has benefitted from the challenge, already recognized as one of the best corners in the league.
Time will tell if Williams can find his way on a similar path to success though he clearly has his work cut out.

Andy Reid And Patrick Mahomes React To Taylor Swift Appearing On Travis Kelce's Podcast

When Taylor Swift appears with her partner, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, on the podcast he co-hosts with his brother, Jason, it's likely to shatter ratings records. But Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a more wry take. 'I'm like really old,' the 67-year-old Reid said, jokingly. 'My grandkids will be all over it.' Reid, who previously was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, had actually met Swift, a Pennsylvania native who comes from a family of Eagles fans, prior to her meeting Kelce. He praised her relationship with the Pro Bowl tight end. 'It's a neat deal,' he said. 'I'm happy for them. Both of them like each other, and what a plus that is. They care about each other, and I think that's the most important thing. The older you get, you want these guys to have somebody they can settle down with and that whole deal.' Swift is slated to discuss the drop of her 12th album called 'The Life of a Showgirl' on New Heights with Jason & Travis, which will be released at 7 p.m. EST. Since the podcast's debut in 2022, it has been a rating hit, capitalizing on the rapport between the brothers, whose respective teams faced off in Super Bowl LVII in the first year of the podcast. The MVP of Super Bowl LVII — along with Super Bowl LIX and Super Bowl LVIII — Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes has guest starred on it. With the Chiefs having a day off from practice on Thursday as they travel for Friday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, Mahomes said he looked forward to listening to the podcast on Wednesday night. 'I'm obviously super excited, just knowing Taylor and seeing the process from just a little bit closer of how she makes the albums. It's going to be amazing because of how much work she puts into it,' Mahomes said. 'What better place to announce it than the New Heights podcast.' It's a big week for Kelce, who also appears on the cover of GQ. In the in-depth cover story, he discusses his relationship with Swift. 'When there is not a camera on us, we're just two people that are in love. It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out,' he told GQ. 'We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are. We share all those values.' Kelce, who trained in South Florida this offseason while shedding noticeable weight to get in shape for the 2025 NFL season, went to the Everglades for the GQ photo shoot and held snakes and alligators. Though Mahomes said the photos turned out well, the quarterback emphatically stated he would never attempt something like that. 'I would 100 % not,' Mahomes said. 'Even in the Everglades in general, it's just not my spot.' Reid had another amusing response. 'It's great to be young,' he said. 'I'm not sure who was madder: Travis or the alligator.'

Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders injures his oblique during practice in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders sustained an oblique injury during drills early in practice Wednesday and did not play the rest of the session. Sanders and the Browns were in Philadelphia for a pair of joint practices ahead of Saturday's preseason game. The Browns did not offer any additional information on Sanders' availability for the rest of the week. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win over Carolina on Friday night. The performance by Hall of Famer Deion Sanders' son even caught the attention of NBA star LeBron James. 'That young (man) looking good out there,' James wrote. 'Keep going UP!!! HEAD down on the grind and HEAD high to the most high.' The Browns took Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He wasn't selected until the 144th overall pick, a stunning fall for the most recognizable player in this draft class. Sanders finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season for Colorado and threw for a school-record 4,134 yards last season. He is part of a crowded Browns quarterback room as Deshaun Watson is expected to sit out this season with a torn Achilles tendon. The group also includes Kenny Pickett, 40-year-old Joe Flacco and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, who was responsible for a Football Bowl Subdivision-record 188 total touchdowns during a six-year career that included stops at Central Florida, Oklahoma and Oregon. Pickett has been slowed in training camp with a hamstring injury and Gabriel experienced a tight hamstring. ___ AP NFL:
