BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday hit out at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for questioning the AIADMK-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu, asserting that the DMK's own partnership with Congress raises questions about political pressures.Speaking to ANI, Soundararajan dismissed the DMK's criticism of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, which the DMK attributed to alleged corruption charges, by questioning the DMK's partnership with Congress, accusing them of causing harm to Sri Lankan Tamils "I am asking whether DMK has aligned with Congress due to pressure practice... Congress killed Tamil brothers and sisters. Why did DMK form an alliance with them? Why do they want to talk about the opposition alliance?" the BJP leader questioned.Soundararajan claimed that the DMK was rattled by the AIADMK-BJP alliance, formed to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections."They are now jittery after AIADMK and BJP formed an alliance. It is our duty to form an alliance and fight against them. Now, they are not confident about their win. Their alliance is in a dividing stage," she said, urging the DMK to focus on its coalition rather than the opposition's strategy.Earlier on Tuesday, BJP leader Soundarajan stated that the BJP-AIADMK alliance will come to power in Tamil Nadu in the next elections and accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his ministers of blocking the state's progress. She claimed that over nine ministers from the Tamil Nadu Government are facing corruption charges and are "swindling with people's money"."In the next elections, BJP, AIADMK and our alliance will come to power in Tamil Nadu.... The Tamil Nadu CM and his ministers are stopping the progress of the people of Tamil Nadu. More than nine ministers have been accused of corruption. They are swindling people's money," she said, alleging that the state government is misusing public money and blaming the Centre for covering up its failures.

As BMC polls near, BJP again seeks rehab for first-floor slumdwellers in Mumbai
Mumbai: BJP has again started lobbying to make slumdwellers living on the first floor of hutments eligible for free or affordable housing. Officials said the proposal will soon be sent to the state cabinet for approval. If cleared, said political observers, it will be seen as an attempt by BJP to woo voters ahead of BMC polls. In Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) schemes, only families living on the ground floor of slums are eligible for free housing or under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).by paying Rs 2.5 lakh. Those living on the first floor are not eligible even if they are living there from before 2000. Following former BJP corporator Vinod Mishra's demand for rehab of first-floor slumdwellers, Mumbai Suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar on Thursday held a review meeting and asked officials to submit a proposal before the cabinet. "The meeting was positive," Shelar told TOI. "There are many legal chawls in declared slum areas that are ground-plus one or two structures. These first- or second-floor residents will be made eligible in SRA schemes. As far as other slums are concerned, the first-floor structures will be surveyed and will be made eligible for PMAY, as per rules." In 2023, a govt resolution (GR) was issued fixing the cost for all such post-2000 beneficiaries at Rs 2.5 lakh (estimated construction cost). "Under the slum protection policy, if a structure came up between 2001 and 2011 and if the resident is able to produce documents to show that the hut existed anytime during this period, she/he will be eligible for a rehab flat on the payment of Rs 2.5 lakh. If a decision is taken, then this same format will be applicable for those living on the first floor," said a senior official. Pointing out that Housing for All is the PM's dream and the Devendra Fadanvis-led Mahayuti govt has been positive about this initiative, Mishra said: "Officials said the file was with the finance department and will be soon placed before the state cabinet. Once that is done, a GR will be issued." In his letter to Shelar, Mishra stated: "We had drawn attention to this issue in 2023 too. The SRA CEO had submitted a proposal to the housing to include the ineligible residents of the first floor in slum rehab schemes. The CM also took a positive the legislative assembly. The housing department conducted a thorough verification of relevant documents was completed. It was concluded that there is no the final approval and GR are still pending. If this decision is taken, it will strengthen state govt's role."

'Pashchimbanga Divas' Row: BJP Accuses Police Of Blocking Rally, TMC Calls Celebration Forced

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar accused Kolkata Police of obstructing the party's efforts to observe the day. Majumdar alleged that police tried to stop his two-wheeler rally from reaching Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's residence on Elgin Road in south Kolkata. The BJP, following a central government notification, marks June 20 — the date in 1947 when the undivided Bengal Assembly voted for the partition of the state — as 'Pashchimbanga Divas'. Earlier this morning, BJP Yuva Morcha members gathered at the Bhowanipore residence of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the Jan Sangh founder, before planning to cycle and walk to Netaji Bhavan, about a kilometre away. Majumdar alleged, 'we told the police that we will only carry the Tricolour and no party flags in this rally. Even then the police obstructed our movement and arrested our workers." A small group, including Majumdar and state BJP Yuva Morcha chief Indranil Khan, later managed to reach Netaji's house and garland his bust. 'We failed to understand the police's logic behind this obstruction. This wasn't a political rally and our destination was Netaji's house which lies in the same ward as that of the residence of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. It is evident that we will either walk or reach there on motorcycles," Khan added. West Bengal Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari led legislators on a colourful march from the assembly to Dr Mukherjee's statue on Red Road, where they garlanded it and chanted slogans calling for enduring recognition of June 20 as 'Pashchimbanga Divas'. 'This is a historic day which we must observe," Adhikari said. The row centres on which date should be officially recognised as West Bengal Statehood Day. The ruling TMC government has declared Poila Baisakh — the Bengali New Year — as the statehood day, passing a resolution in the assembly. In response to the allegations, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed the BJP's actions as contrived. Ghosh said: 'The people of Bengal have already chosen their statehood day on the first day of the Bengali calendar. It's a day close to the hearts of all Bengalis. The state assembly has already endorsed it. It doesn't matter where a motley band of BJP workers gather and try to force a celebration which lacks spontaneity and with which the people have no direct association." West Bengal's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobhandeb Chatterjee accused the BJP of undermining the secular spirit of the Constitution, calling the celebration 'politically motivated". He said the Poila Baisakh resolution had already been endorsed by the state assembly and criticised the BJP's sudden interest in June 20. Convicted BJP MLA disqualified from state assembly
Patna: BJP MLA from Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga, Mishri Lal Yadav, was disqualified from the state legislative assembly on Friday following his conviction in a 2019 criminal case. Last month, a court in Darbhanga sentenced him to two years' imprisonment. Yadav had been accused of assaulting and snatching cash from a local resident in 2019. The assembly secretariat issued an official notification to this effect. The letter, signed by assembly secretary Khyati Singh, read, "In the light of the judgment passed by the MP/MLA court, Darbhanga, Yadav is disqualified as a member of the Bihar assembly with effect from May 27 under provisions made under section 8 of the Representation of People's Act and article 191(1)(e) of the Constitution."
