Lebanese Sunni Islamic Scholar Sheikh Hassan Al-Moraib: If Iran Had Launched Missiles at Israel Directly on October 7 Like It Is Doing Now in Defense of Its Nuclear Program, Gaza and Lebanon Would Not

Lebanese Sunni Islamic scholar Sheikh Hassan Al-Moraib said in a June 20, 2025 interview on Spot Shot (YouTube) that Iran did not defend its proxies. He explained that if Iran had launched missiles directly at Israel on October 7, Gaza and Lebanon likely would not have been destroyed. However, Al-Moraib said, Iran allowed Hizbullah, its 'long arm,' to be killed, its most important arm was chopped off, and it did not act. He added that Iran didn't even avenge Nasrallah. In contrast, Al-Moraib said, Iran is now defending itself and its nuclear program by launching missiles at Israel. Therefore, it should not pretend to be doing Lebanon any favors or sell illusions about defending Jerusalem and Palestine. He continued by saying that Sunnis are Iran's greatest enemies, and Sunni lives, women, and children are fair game to Iran. Moraib added that he reason for this is the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, because Iran sees Sunnis as the killers of Hussein, Prophet Muhammad's grandson.

Iraq: Candidate disqualifications for elections could reach 400

Shafaq News — Baghdad The number of excluded parliamentary candidates, including those barred under Iraq's de-Baathification process, could reach 400, lawmaker Raed al-Maliki said on Wednesday. Speaking to Shafaq News, al-Maliki attributed the surge to the first-time enforcement of Article 7(3) of the amended 2018 Election Law — which prohibits those convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude, financial or administrative corruption, or reputational damage, even if pardoned — and to a stricter application of Accountability and Justice Commission measures after years of 'relative lenience.' So far, more than 150 candidates have been disqualified. The Commission removed 55 candidates in Nineveh and 10 in Dhi Qar, while additional lists from Baghdad and Diyala include dozens more. The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) continues to receive disqualification lists from verification bodies, which form the basis for its rulings.

Larijani: Iran respects Lebanese government decisions

Shafaq News – Beirut On Wednesday, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri during an official visit to Beirut. According to the Lebanese presidency, Aoun told Larijani that Lebanon seeks cooperation with Iran within the framework of sovereignty and friendship based on mutual respect. He cautioned that recent statements by some Iranian officials were unhelpful, stressing that 'the friendship Lebanon seeks with Iran must be with all Lebanese, not limited to a single sect or political group.' Aoun emphasized that the Lebanese state is responsible for protecting all components of society and rejects any foreign interference in its internal affairs. 'Lebanon does not interfere in the affairs of other countries, including Iran, and expects the same in return,' he said, warning against reliance on external powers to gain leverage over fellow Lebanese. Larijani renewed an invitation for Aoun to visit Tehran and expressed Iran's readiness to assist Lebanon in reconstruction. Asserting that Iran does not interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs, he noted that his remarks upon arrival in Beirut reflect the official position of the Islamic Republic. 'Iran seeks no disruption in its friendship with Lebanon and stands ready to assist if the Lebanese government requests it.' — Lebanese Presidency (@LBpresidency) August 13, 2025 Following talks with Berri, Larijani told reporters that Iran had not brought any proposals to Lebanon, adding that it was the United States that had introduced plans, while Israel had violated Lebanon's sovereignty. He urged the Lebanese to recognize that the 'resistance' (Hezbollah) is a strategic asset and reiterated that Iran does not meddle in Lebanon's internal affairs, adding that 'Lebanon can, in consultation with the resistance, decide on the most suitable course of action,' and that Iran respects any decision taken by the Lebanese government in coordination with Lebanese factions. — Ali Larijani | علی لاریجانی (@alilarijani_ir) August 13, 2025 Larijani is also expected to meet Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and other senior officials.

Fatah Official Awni Al-Mashni: Palestinians Who Want Israel to Defeat Iran Are Unpatriotic; We Need to Protect Our 'Victim Status' in Western Eyes, and Avoid Becoming 'the Criminals' Again

Fatah official Awni Al-Mashni said in a July 31, 2025 interview with Ahmad Biqawi on YouTube that he rejects the claims of those who say they have nothing to do with October 7. He said he cannot blame Hamas for 'this genocide […] the crime of the century,' even if it has made mistakes. Al-Mashni added that anyone who wishes for Iran to be defeated by Israel is unpatriotic. He advised Palestinians to maintain their victim status and not become criminals again in order to achieve their goals.
