Man, 22, fighting for life after BMW crashes into Piccadilly Circus fountain
A 22-year-old man is fighting for his life after a BMW crashed into a fountain in Piccadilly Circus.
The black car overturned and was lying on its roof near the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain at 5.30am yesterday (June 29).
Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found two men, who were in the vehicle, injured.
(Image: Lucy North/PA) They were taken to hospital for treatment with one of them in a life-threatening condition.
No pedestrians were injured and no other vehicles are thought to be involved, the Metropolitan Police said.
Road closures are in place around Piccadilly Circus.
The Met said it was called at about 5.30am, with London Ambulance Service paramedics and the London Fire Brigade.
A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: 'We were called at 5.25am today (29 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on Piccadilly, W1J.
'We sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London's Air Ambulance.
'Our first paramedic arrived on scene in less than four minutes.
'We treated two people. We took one patient to a major trauma centre and the other patient to a local hospital.'

Here are other cold cases that resulted in a conviction: Murder of Louisa Dunne – 58 years Mrs Dunne, 75, was raped and murdered in 1967 after being attacked in her home in Bristol. Ryland Headley, now aged 92, was convicted for rape and murder following a trial at Bristol Crown Court in 2025. Murder of Yolande Waddington – 46 years The 17-year-old nanny was killed by David Burgess in a Berkshire village in 1966. A year later, he murdered two children. In 2012, he was given a further life sentence for Yolande's murder. Roland Long rape case – 42 years Long was jailed in 2022 for 12 years for raping a woman in the Cardiff area. Manslaughter and rape of Janet Commins – 41 years In 1976, 15-year-old Janet Commins was found dead in Flint, North Wales. A man was wrongly jailed for killing her. Former soldier Stephen Hough was later caught from DNA recovered from the scene. He was jailed for manslaughter in 2017. David Lomax rape case – 40 years The former police officer raped a woman in 1978 in Leeds after she was unable to pay a fine. He was convicted of rape and misconduct in public office in 2018 and jailed. Murders of Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce – 34 years The two young women were found dead in Tunbridge Wells in 1987 in what became known as the 'Bedsit Murders'. Reform UK mayor says Bob Vylan's chants show ‘two-tier justice'
Reform UK mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, Andrea Jenkyns, said that if Bob Vylan aren't arrested over their chants at Glastonbury, it is evidence of a 'two-tiered justice system.' Rapper Bobby Vylan led a crowd in chants of: 'Death, death to the IDF,' during the group's performance on Saturday (28 June). 'If the police don't arrest and treat them the same way as Lucy Connolly and all the other political prisoners, then they should let Lucy Connolly and the other political prisoners out and give them compensation,' Jenkyns told GB News on Monday (30 June). Lucy Connolly, the wife of a former Conservative councillor, was jailed for 31 months for inciting racial hatred online following the Southport attacks. 'Because this is evidence that we've got a two-tiered justice system,' Ms Jenkyns claimed. Police are assessing videos of comments made by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury to decide whether any offences may have been committed.
