Ambanis lead 2025 Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses list with valuation near one-twelfth of India's GDP

The Ambanis topped the 2025 Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses list for the second consecutive year, with a valuation of ₹28.2 lakh crore i.e. about one-twelfth of India's GDP.
The Kumar Mangalam Birla family rose to second place with a valuation of ₹6.5 lakh crore, up ₹1.1 lakh crore. The Jindal family entered the top three at ₹5.7 lakh crore, marking a ₹1 lakh crore gain.
The top three family businesses are valued at $471 billion (₹40.4 lakh crore), up ₹4.6 lakh crores, equivalent to the GDP of the Philippines.
With a value of ₹2.6 lakh crore, Anil Agarwal and family climbed six spots to break into the top 10. The threshold to enter the top 10 increased by ₹18,700 crore, reaching ₹2.2 lakh crore.
Energy, financial services, and software remain the dominant wealth-creating industries across India's most valuable family businesses.

Headed by Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries operates in the energy sector. The business, founded in 1957, is currently managed by the second generation. The Ambani family's leadership continues to shape India's industrial landscape, with Reliance playing a pivotal role in sectors such as energy, retail, and digital services, as per Hurun.
Birla family ranks second
The Kumar Mangalam Birla family ranks second in the list, with a value of ₹6.5 Lakh crore. Led by Kumar Mangalam Birla, the Aditya Birla Group is a major player in the cement and cement products industry. Now run by the fourth generation, the business traces its origins back to the 1850s. The family's longstanding legacy of industrial leadership reflects a deep-rooted commitment to innovation and expansion across global markets.
Jindal family valued at ₹5.7 lakh cr
The Jindal family secured the third position in the list, with a value of ₹5.7 Lakh crore. Spearheaded by Sajjan Jindal, JSW Steel represents the group's strong presence in the metals and mining industry. A second-generation business, the Jindals have built one of India's largest steel producers, contributing significantly to India's infrastructure and industrial growth.
Bajaj, Murugappa and Mahindras also on the list
The Bajaj family ranked fourth on the 2025 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses List with a valuation of ₹5.6 lakh crore, led by Sanjiv Bajaj and focused on financial services since its founding in 1926.
The Mahindra family placed fifth at ₹5.4 lakh crore, with Anand Mahindra steering its diversified portfolio in automobiles and beyond.
In sixth place, the Nadar family's HCL Technologies, valued at ₹4.7 lakh crore, remains a key IT services player under Roshni Nadar Malhotra.
The Murugappa family ranked seventh at ₹2.9 lakh crore through its financial services arm, Cholamandalam Investment & Finance, led by Vellayan Subbiah.
The Premji family followed in eighth with Wipro at ₹2.8 lakh crore, headed by Rishad Premji.
The Anil Agarwal family debuted ninth at ₹2.6 lakh crore with Hindustan Zinc in metals and mining, while the Dani, Choksi, and Vakil families, represented by Asian Paints, closed the top 10 at ₹2.2 lakh crore under professional leadership by R. Seshasayee.

Ultratech Cement to off-load up to 6.49% of stake in India Cements

Cement major UltraTech Cement on August 20 informed the exchanges that it will sell up to 6.49 per cent of its stake in India Cements via an open market offer. No deal value was stated in the filing. 'The stake sale was approved the for upto 2,01,12,330 equity shares of India Cements, representing 6.49 per cent of the issued and paid-up equity share capital of ICEM, by way of an offer for sale through the stock exchange mechanism,' the statement read. This development comes after Ultratech took over India Cements in July 2024. At market close on August 20, Ultratech Cement's shares were priced at ₹ 12,872. The stock opened at ₹ 12,850, before hitting a high of ₹ 12,930 and seeing low of ₹ 12,765, during the trading day. Speaking to shareholders on August 19, UltraTech Cement chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said that the company will reach its target of 200 million tonnes per annum capacity a year ahead of its guidance of FY27. 'UltraTech is now well and truly poised to become the largest cement-selling company in the world, outside of China,' Birla said at the annual general meeting (AGM). The cement maker's capacity stood at 188.8 mtpa as of March 2025. This means the company will have to add 28.8 mtpa of organic capacity additions in FY26. In the annual report, MD KC Jhanwar said Ultratech plans to invest ₹ 9,000-10,000 crore on capex in FY26. UltraTech's expansion plans are expected to consolidate its market leadership and help it gain additional market share, analysts at Axis Securities said in a 22 July note. The company's growth is likely to be supported by strong demand, better pricing, upcoming capacity additions, ramp-up of recently commissioned plants, and the advantage of lower commodity costs, they said.

Quant Mutual Fund adjusted its portfolio in July. It increased holdings in HDFC Bank and 24 other stocks. Quant Mutual Fund has increased its stake in HDFC Bank and 24 other stocks in July, whereas it reduced its stake in Jio Financial Services and 25 other stocks in the same period, according to the monthly data released by Prime Database. The fund house had 21,450 shares of HDFC Bank in its portfolio in June, which were further increased to 27,500 in July. The other 24 stocks where the fund house increased its stake include Adani Enterprises, REC, GMR Airports, JSW Infrastructure, Indian Oil Corporation, HPCL, LIC Housing Finance, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Adani Energy Solutions, and Gland Pharma. Sandeep Tandon-led fund house had 14.94 crore shares of Jio Financial Services in July against 16.47 crore in June as it offloaded nearly 1.53 crore shares from the portfolio. The other 25 stocks where the exposure was reduced included Reliance Industries, Grasim Industries, HDFC Life Insurance, Avenue Supermarts, Tata Consumer Products, Container Corporation of India, Jana Small Finance Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Laxmi Dental, and Vodafone Idea. Among these 25 stocks, the fund house offloaded the maximum number of shares of Reliance Industries, around 1.08 crore, from the portfolio. The fund house added 18 new stocks in its portfolio in July which included State Bank of India, Anthem Biosciences, Ajanta Pharma, Max Healthcare Institute, Sumitomo Chemical India, JSW Energy, Bosch, Indian Bank, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone, 360 One WAM, and Marathon Nextgen Realty. A complete exit from 15 stocks was made in July, which includes SBI Cards & Payment Services, NTPC, Divi's Laboratories, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Eternal, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, Hindustan Copper, Apollo Hospitals, and Nestle India. Around 55.51 lakh shares of NMDC were sold from the portfolio worth Rs 38.86 crore in market were around 14 unique stocks in the portfolio of the fund house which included Best Agrolife, Brooks Laboratories, Om Infra, Rossell India, Rossell Techsys, HP Adhesives, Lancer Container Lines, Brooks Laboratories, and Nahar Spinning the industry-wise shareholding, the fund house had the highest allocation in financial services of around 20.21%, 16.08% in consumer discretionary, 12.70% in energy, and 11.56% in healthcare. Also Read | 7 equity mutual funds multiply lumpsum investments by over 2x in 3 years The fund house had 11.39% in industrials, 7.83% in commodities, 7.25% in utilities, 6.89% in FMCG, 2.61% in telecommunication, 2.38% in services, 0.71% in diversified, and 0.38% in information were no foreign equity holdings in the portfolio of the fund house in the mentioned assets under management (AUM) of the fund house has gone up from Rs 99,090 crore in June to Rs 96,354 crore in July, and it manages 29 funds as of July 31, 2025. Out of these six funds, 21 are equity-oriented, five are hybrid, and three are debt the 29 funds managed by the fund house, Quant Small Cap Fund is the largest fund with an AUM of Rs 29,462 crore as on July 31, 2025, followed by Quant ELSS Tax Saver Fund, which had an AUM of Rs 11,649 crore. Quant Overnight Fund is the smallest fund managed by the fund house with an AUM of Rs 91.77 all funds managed by the fund house and the percentage of total AUM of three different categories, around 90.83% is invested in equity, 7.35% in hybrid, and 1.82% in debt.
