Jewish father is viciously beaten in street in Canada as one of his two kids hollers for help

An Orthodox Jewish man was brutally attacked in front of his two young children in Quebec in a vicious assault that was caught on video.
Footage of the attack on Friday afternoon saw the 32-year-old unidentified victim sprawled out on the sidewalk as a man rained down punches to his head and body.
One of the victim's kids stuck by their father and cried out for help as they attempted to shield them both from the blows in the Montreal borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension in Canada.
Once the assault was over, the attacker stood up to gather his belongings and placed them into a red shopping bag.
A second child rushed into view to help their father while, in a final act of contempt, the assailant hurled the victim's yarmulke (skull cap) into a nearby fountain.
It's not clear what sparked the attack, but Canada 's Prime Minister Mark Carney lead the condemnations of the 'appalling act of violence' against the Jewish father.
Police responded to a 911 call at 2.45pm but the attacker had fled the scene before officers arrived.
Police spokeswoman Caroline Chevrefils confirmed the authenticity of the footage and said that the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries: 'The reason for the assault is not yet known.'
Prime Minister Carney used X to post: 'Everyone in Canada has an inalienable right to live in safety. My thoughts are with the victim and his family as they recover, and my support is with law enforcement as they work to bring the perpetrator to justice.'
Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante described the attack as 'troubling', while Hampstead Mayor Jeremy Levi, who posted the video online, went further in a statement.
Hampstead mayor Levi said: 'This is beyond deplorable - it is an outrage against basic human decency. In the heart of Montreal, a Jewish father is savagely beaten in front of his children.
'This is the Canada that Mark Carney has allowed to fester - a place where weakness in leadership has emboldened brutality. Hampstead made a different choice long ago.
'We refused to bow to complacency. We increased our Public Security budget by 50 per cent, ensuring we are ready, capable, and unwilling to depend on politicians who lack the courage to protect their own citizens. We will defend our people - every time, without apology.'
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs echoed those concerns and called on authorities 'to hold the attacker accountable', it also warned leaders at all levels to 'confront this dangerous escalation'.
Police urged for information from anyone with details of the attack.

Canada closer to extraditing Scots over restaurant owner's death

Canadian prosecutors have moved a step closer to extraditing three Scots to North America over their alleged involvement in the death of a restaurant owner in Ontario. Robert Evans, 24, has been charged with manslaughter of father-of-one Sharif Rahman, 44, in August father Robert Busby Evans, 47, and uncle Barry Evans, 54, have been charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable have been several hearings in Edinburgh since Ontario Provincial Police announced charges in December. At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Sheriff Komorowski sided with Canadian prosecutors, arguing that there was an equivalent offence in Scottish law to being an accessory to the court ruling will not lead to immediate extraditions and could be appealed. Alleged street attack The three Scots were said to have been on holiday in Canada when a dispute allegedly broke out over an unpaid $150 restaurant bill at The Curry House in Owen has been reported that Mr Rahman followed the Evans family into the street outside the restaurant where a physical altercation allegedly took place. Mr Rahman was found injured by a staff member and died a week later in hospital in London, three men were arrested in Edinburgh and Dalkeith last year over an outstanding international warrant. Canadian media outlets have reported that the three Scots were in the country on visitor visas and left shortly after the incident involving Mr prosecutors claimed the older Evans men illegally attempted to frustrate the investigation into Mr Rahman's death. The court heard that Barry Evans drove his nephew 40 miles away from the scene after the alleged attack. Robert Busby Evans is claimed to have arranged for his son to return to Scotland the following Komorowski said that on the same day Barry Evans retrieved his deposit and driving licence from a hotel."He also removed his guest registration containing his name, signature and car registration," the judge said. He said this was done as part of efforts "to avoid the implication that Robert Evans might have been present at the scene". Judge's decision Lawyers for the two older Evans family members argued that there was no equivalent act to being an accessory to the fact and that the extradition request should be a written judgement, Sheriff Komorowski concluded that if the men had committed their alleged offences in Scotland, both the father and uncle would have been prosecuted under the charge of attempting to defeat the ends of said: "That is so regardless of whether pursuit of that individual has yet commenced, or indeed regardless of whether any investigation has begun." Sheriff Komorowski said the ruling did not mean the three men could be extradited added: "As there are other matters yet to be determined that might preclude the extradition of these two individuals, this decision does not bring these extradition proceedings to a conclusion."If ultimately the court refers the extradition of these two individuals to the Scottish ministers, and the ministers order extradition, then there is a right of appeal to the high court of justiciary." A spokesperson for the Crown Office said previously that it did not comment on extradition matters.

Martial arts champion priest assaulted 62-year-old woman during exorcism, police say

A priest who has medaled in international jiu-jitsu competitions is under investigation for assaulting a 62-year-old woman during an alleged exorcism, authorities in the Brazilian state of São Paulo said. Father João Bezerra was conducting a mass last Thursday at the Nossa Senhora Consolata Parish in São Manuel when he revealed before the parishioners that he was an 'exorcist.' Bezerra – the first black belt priest in Brazil – was walking the around the church while performing the Blessed Sacrament when he approached the woman, whose name has not been released. The police report indicated that woman was lying on the floor and claimed that she 'rested in the Holy Spirit.' She subsequently 'began to manifest an evil spirit, becoming unconscious' when Bezerra assaulted her. The priest slapped, kicked and grabbed the woman by the hair until he pushed her into a pew. The woman was briefly unconscious and pleaded with Bezerra to stop as the faithful intervened. Bezerra abandoned the church without explaining himself to the woman or the parishioners. The woman was taken to Santa Casa de São Manuel Hospital, where she received treatment for bruises to the face, scalp and right shoulder. The Archdiocese of Botacu told Brazilian news outlet G1 that it is covering the woman's medical expenses. It also said that it 'has instituted an internal procedure for rigorous investigation of the facts, provisionally removing Father João José Bezerra from the use of order.' One of the woman's two sisters who attended the service told TV Tem that they did not think that Bezerra was capable of physically harming any of the parishioners. 'We never imagined it, we didn't expect it at all, we were all in shock,' she said. 'I too, at the time, was in church serving Jesus, but we never imagined a priest would do something like that, that this would happen. We were all in shock, paralyzed, without any reaction.' The victim's other sister said she has had a difficult time forgetting Bezerra's assault. 'My sister, who is 62 years old, is a super Catholic person, who everyone here in São Manuel knows,' she said. 'My sister, who is 62 years old, is a super Catholic person, who everyone here in São Manuel knows,' she said. 'I just hope for justice in reality, because, if this priest was not able to celebrate a mass like that, he could not have done it.'
