Actor Michelle Trachtenberg died of complications from diabetes, says NYC medical examiner

Yahoo16-04-2025

Actor Michelle Trachtenberg died as a result of complications from diabetes, New York City's medical examiner said Wednesday.
The office said in a statement that it amended the cause and manner of death for the 39-year-old New York City native following a review of laboratory test results.
Trachtenberg, who was known for 'Gossip Girl,' 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Harriet the Spy,' was found unconscious and unresponsive in her luxury apartment tower in Manhattan in February.
Officials at the time said no foul play was suspected, and the medical examiner's office had listed her death as 'undetermined.'
Trachtenberg's family had objected to an autopsy, which the medical examiner's office honored because there was no evidence of criminality.
Her representative didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment Wednesday.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Taylor Momsen and Blake Lively were among the celebrities who mourned Trachtenberg when her Feb. 26 death was announced.
Trachtenberg was 8 when she began playing Nona Mecklenberg on Nickelodeon's 'The Adventures of Pete & Pete' from 1994 to 1996 and then starred in the title role in the film adaptations of 'Harriet the Spy' and 'Inspector Gadget,' opposite Matthew Broderick.
In 2000 Trachtenberg joined the cast of 'Buffy,' playing Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the title character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar between 2000 and 2003.
Trachtenberg went on to recurring roles on 'Six Feet Under,' 'Weeds' and 'Gossip Girl,' where she played the gang's scheming nemesis, Georgina Sparks. She was one of the original series' stars to return for a pair of guest appearances in the 2021 'Gossip Girl' revival.
Trachtenberg's later credits included the 2004 teen sex comedy 'EuroTrip' and 2009's '17 Again' with Zac Efron and Leslie Mann.

'Graduating with my master's degree (!!) feels like more than an achievement—it feels like a deep calling realized. True growth, energy, and passion—manifested," she wrote in the caption of the post, which also featured a photo of her young kids' handwritten notes, which read "Good Job Mommy" and "I Love You Mom."The post continued, "After nearly a decade of inner work and building a new life, I'm so grateful for this moment in time. To my highest self—for taking this wild leap away from everything I knew and making it happen 🙌. She went on to elaborat on the support she received from her community regarding her education journey: "And to my family, friends—new and old—my colleagues/classmates, professors/teachers, and community, I give thanks: for rooting me on, encouraging me day in and day out, and affording me the grace, strength, and space to step fully into these past years of clinical training."Dushku continued, "Today, I stand grounded and ready to support others on their journeys of becoming—through self-discovery, healing, and transformation. She concluded the emotional milestone post with a Latin phrase, "Non sibi sed toti 🤍," which translates to "not for themselves, but for all," in reference to her career change and future goals of helping patients through their trauma. Dushku previously opened up in a 2024 interview with Boston Magazine about her desire to retire from acting in favor of pursuing a career in psychedelic therapy. Dushku, along with husband Palandjian, a former professional tennis player and Intercontinental Real Estate Corp. CEO, told Boston Magazine at the time that they are also funding research and clinical trials into the potential uses of psychedelics. "I had the means to shift directions and choose a course in my life that focused on healing myself so that I could help heal others. I would be remiss if I didn't now share the transformation and the peace and the passion that I have," Dushku said. "This is just absolutely so clearly my real calling, my real purpose," she continued at the time. The former actress most notably starred as Faith, a fellow vampire slayer who joined forces with Buffy Sommers to defeat the supernatural forces lurking below the fictional idyllic California town of Sunnydale in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A factor in her decision to leave Hollywood was her experience of being sexually molested by one of Hollywood's leading stunt coordinators when she was only 12 years old. In her interview with Boston, she revealed feeling "feeling so wholly unwell" from the past traumas of the assault while using psychedelics, which ultimately helped her process the past. Justin Baldoni's $400 million lawsuit in jeopardy after reporter admits texting mistake

Justin Baldoni's $400 million defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and publicist Leslie Sloane may be in jeopardy because of a journalist's text message using the wrong choice of words. Baldoni's filing largely centered on a text sent by a reporter claiming that Sloane said Lively was 'sexually assaulted' by Baldoni. His legal team cited the 'unsubstantiated accusation' as evidence that Sloane pushed a 'false narrative' to 'destroy Baldoni and his reputation.' The journalist who sent the text in question, identified as Daily Mail reporter James Vituscka, has since come forward and clarified the message, admitting that he used those words in error. 'In those text messages, my use of the phrase 'sexually assaulted' was a mistake. I meant to say, 'sexually harassed.' I regret this error,' Vituscka says, according to a signed declaration shared with the Daily News on Friday by law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, which is representing Sloane. 'Ms. Sloane never told me that Ms. Lively was sexually harassed or sexually assaulted by Justin Baldoni or anyone else,' Vituscka says. 'I regret that private text messages were made public.' What's more, Vituscka's text — which he claims he did not authorize to be used in Baldoni's filing — was 'not in reference to any conversation that I had with Leslie Sloane' but to the allegations made in the complaint Lively filed against Baldoni in mid-December, he says. In the initial complaint filed with the California Civil Rights Department, the 'Gossip Girl' star, 37, accused her 41-year-old 'It Ends With Us' director of sexual harassment on the film's set and a retaliatory smear campaign. She formally sued Baldoni at the end of the year. Two weeks later, Baldoni filed his countersuit, accusing Lively, Reynolds and Sloane of defamation and civil extortion. In part using that message from Vituscka, his lawyers claimed Baldoni was targeted in a 'character assassination plot' orchestrated by Sloane at 'Lively's direction.' Sloane has maintained that said she never used the phrase 'sexually assaulted,' and has sought to be dismissed from the case. 'After being wrongfully dragged into this litigation, Leslie Sloane has repeatedly stated that she never used the phrase 'sexually assaulted' which formed the basis of Baldoni's meritless defamation claim against her and today she is fully vindicated by the declaration of James Vituscka that admits she never said those words,' attorney Sigrid McCawley said in a statement sent to The New York Daily News. 'The Wayfarer Parties never even bothered to attempt to confirm whether the outrageous allegations they were launching at Ms. Sloane were true, and they were not.' Legal teams for Lively and Baldoni did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
