NYT Connections Hints And Answers For Wednesday, April 30

Looking for Tuesday's NYT Connections hints, clues and answers instead? You can find them here:
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: it's time for another round of Connections!
Look, the obvious thing for me to do with today's recommendation would be to go with NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me." The way Justin Timberlake sings that last word makes it sound like "May," so it's become a bit of a running joke in the 25 years since the song came out to listen to it at the end of April.
I'm not gonna do that, though. That would be too predictable. You'd never ca–
Oops.
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much.
Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, April 30, are coming right up.
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app.
You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

HEEL, SOLE and TONGUE certainly seemed like they could go together as parts of shoes. But as soon as I got to GIMMICK, I was convinced something else was going on. HEEL, FACE, GIMMICK and CHAIRS are all terms strongly linked with pro wrestling. As a person who perhaps spends a little too much time watching, reading about and mulling over pro wrestling, I had to go for it.
Annnnd it wasn't a group. Or close to a group.
Darn. I really worked myself into a shoot on that one.
After that, I was caught out by what I figured was a second red herring. Oof. STANDING, SEATING, UPPER and CAPACITY all felt like they'd go together in terms of a concert audience. I figured UPPER referred to a balcony or higher level. But nope. Rats.
It was only then I realized that UPPER can be a part of a shoe. Sigh. That got me the yellows.
As I looked at STANDING again, I recalled something I wrote about in a recent column intro: reputation. That helped me deduce the blues.
At that point, I felt like the greens had to go together, since nothing else made sense. that left the purples, for which I finally figured out the connection after staring at those four words for several minutes. They refer to nasty (DYNASTY), gross (ENGROSS), ick (GIMMICK) and ew (MILDEW).
Tough game today! Still, I was happy with my purple hint. 'A little disgusting.' Did you get it? Huh, did ya?
That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Thursday's game if you need them.
P.S. It doesn't perhaps get as much attention as "Pink Pony Club," "Hot To Go" or "Good Luck, Babe," but Chappell Roan's "Naked in Manhattan can easily sit alongside those. It's a great synthpop song that I enjoy very much. I hope you dig it too:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!

Looking for help with today's NYT Mini Crossword puzzle? Here are some hints and answers for the ... More puzzle. In case you missed Saturday's NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here: It's not quite Sunday yet, but the New York Times releases its Sunday crossword puzzles on Saturday afternoon, so here we are. It's a bite-sized Mini Crossword we have to solve today, but not without its more challenging words. Let's take a crack at it, shall we? The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it's free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you'll need the app to tackle the archive. Spoilers ahead! Across 1A. Org. with shooting stars — NBA 4A. Buildings with weather vanes, stereotypically — BARNS 6A. Swiss watch brand — OMEGA 7A. What Santa, Gandalf and Dumbledore each have — BEARD 8A. Pie in the ___ — SKY Down 1D. Feeling blue — SAD Here are all the words on the grid: Today's Mini Crossword I wasn't sure about 1-Across so I skipped ahead and knocked out a few more obvious ones like 5-Down (SAD) and 4-Down (BOB) and then filled in 2 and 3 DOWN and 8 Across, which basically left me with 1 Down and a couple letters missing from a couple Across words. Once I plugged these in, the puzzle was done. Easy peasy! This one took me 1:02. How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
