Delhi Development Authority cuts commercial property charges to boost real estate
These changes are based on recommendations from a High-Level Joint Government-Industry Task Force formed by LG VK Saxena, which had flagged Delhi's uncompetitive market rates as a deterrent for developers.Alongside reforms in commercial real estate, the DDA approved land use changes in Narela to establish an education hub and a multi-sports integrated stadium.A discount scheme was also cleared for bulk flat purchases by government entities in Narela, mirroring the Apna Ghar Awaas Yojana 2025 public offer. In a residential push, the DDA launched the Premium Housing Scheme 2025 through e-auctions, offering HIG, MIG, and LIG flats and garages in areas such as Vasant Kunj, Rohini, Dwarka, and Pitampura.Additionally, Signature View Apartment residents will receive a facilitation rent during their building's reconstruction phase, ensuring their welfare is protected. These measures reflect the DDA's broader strategy of aligning real estate policies with industry inputs, deregulating processes, and making Delhi more competitive as both a commercial and residential destination.- EndsMust Watch

Roshanara Club with revamped sport facilities, wellness and banquet areas, opens its doors after almost 2 years
After being closed for renovation for nearly two years, the century-old Roshanara Club reopened its doors to the residents of the Capital on Sunday. Renovated and restored by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the heritage club now boasts of revamped sport facilities as well as modern wellness and banquet areas, among others. The club, spread across 22 acres, was taken over by the DDA for renovation on September 29, 2023. This was after L-G V K Saxena – in his maiden visit to the club on January 12, 2023 – noticed that the 'majestic structure was lying in a dilapidated state with poor maintenance with a crumbling facade', the DDA said in a statement. Saxena, who unveiled the revamped club, said, 'It is a big moment for us, as this heritage club has been restored and relaunched. I congratulate the people of Delhi on this occasion. Delhi is a city of heritage and in the last three years, a number of heritage (sites) have been restored and we are committed towards (restoring) more in the future.' The club was established on August 15, 1922 as an elite recreational and social retreat for the Britishers residing in the area around present-day Delhi University and Civil Lines. It was named after Begum Roshanara, the daughter of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who was buried in the neighbouring Roshanara Bagh. The club is considered the birthplace of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which was formed in 1928 when Indian cricket administrators gathered at Roshanara Club. 'Particular attention was given to the preservation of the club's architectural legacy. The century-old façade, including the European-style doors and windows, Mangalore-tiled roof, and intricate wooden trusses, have all been carefully restored. Antique chandeliers and original furnishings were refurbished and reupholstered to revive their classic charm,' the DDA said in its statement. It added that indoor facilities at the club now include a main lounge, card and billiards rooms, banquet area, bar and dining hall, library, gym, squash and badminton courts, a swimming pool, and a wellness area with yoga, sauna, and steam rooms. Outdoor amenities include clay, grass, and synthetic tennis courts, cricket grounds, a mini football zone, basketball area, and a jogging track. The DDA said civil works involved anti-termite treatment, waterproofing, marble polishing, wooden flooring repairs, and renovations to sanitary facilities. Important upgrades were made to the squash and badminton courts, swimming pool, and various places in the club house building. While electrical systems were overhauled, AC cooling was enhanced by providing requisite units, ducting and wiring were concealed, and damaged fittings, switches and light fixtures were replaced. Chandni Chowk BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal, Model Town BJP MLA Ashok Goel, DDA Vice Chairman N Saravana Kumar, and senior officials also attended the launch. Delhi LG to unveil restored century-old Roshanara Club, distribute membership cards
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has restored the heritage areas in Roshanara Club in North Delhi and lieutenant governor VK Saxena is likely to inaugurate the restored buildings on Sunday, officials said on Saturday. The unveiling ceremony will be held in the evening with the DDA planning to hold a guided walkthrough of the club house, distribution of membership cards and sports engagement with the dignitaries, the programme schedule released by DDA said. The 103-year-old club remained partially functional since its takeover from private management, offering sports facilities—cricket, tennis and swimming—on a pay-to-play model. (HT Archive) The club was taken over by DDA in 2023, sparking a legal back-and-forth between DDA and the former private management. The authority said it will run the club as a public facility with an affordable and inclusive model, officials said. On June 22, HT had reported that DDA intends to reopen the clubhouse as a social hub, with plans to resume food and beverage (F&B) services. The 103-year-old club remained partially functional since its takeover from private management, offering sports facilities—cricket, tennis and swimming—on a pay-to-play model. While the club remained exclusive to its members since the British era, DDA opened it to the public after taking over. In 1922, Civil Lines was populated by British bureaucrats and the emerging Indian elite, who joined hands to set up the club on 22 acres on the western side of Roshanara Bagh. The club is renowned for hosting a meeting that led to the ideation and creation of the Board of Cricket Control Of India (BCCI). According to the club website, its pre-Independence members included viceroys and governor-generals. Among regular visitors were Jawaharlal Nehru, Zakir Hussain, VV Giri, and Dr Rajendra Prasad. Several Indian cricketers, including Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli, have played here and iconic films, such as 'Gandhi', have been shot on the premises.

It is also considered the birthplace of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and to this date, offers a wide range of sports activities, including tennis (on synthetic and clay courts), basketball, table tennis, cricket, swimming, badminton, squash, futsal and yoga. These activities continued to take place even after DDA took over the club and began the revamp of the entire facility. According to DDA, the club's administration continued operations despite the expiry of the land lease. However, the former club management maintained that the sealing was carried out despite a stay order from Delhi High Court. "Noticing the century-old club in a state of sheer neglect and dilapidation with poor maintenance, LG directed DDA to take back the management of the club from the private entity that was running the institution," explained a DDA official. Saxena emphasised the need for immediate restoration and renovation of Roshanara Club to restore its glorious heritage and bring back the charm of a bygone era. " With the restoration work of the clubhouse completed, members can enjoys its sprawling lawns, vintage architecture, and sports activities," added another official.
