"Everybody should openly admit that Pakistan harbours terrorism": All-party delegation member Brij Lal

India Gazette26-05-2025

Seoul [South Korea], May 26 (ANI): BJP MP Brij Lal, who is part of the JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha-led all-party delegation to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism, on Monday (local time) urged the global community to acknowledge Pakistan's role in harbouring terrorism, citing substantial evidence and historical admissions by former Pakistani leaders.
During an interaction with South Korean think tanks in Seoul, the BJP MP underscored India's resolve to combat terrorism following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
He emphasised the precision of India's military response, which targeted only terrorist bases without harming civilians, and called for international support in this fight.
'We have a lot of evidence (on Pakistan's terrorism). They themselves accepted (that they harbour terrorists). General Musharraf was the Army Chief and President of Pakistan, and he said, 'We harbour terrorists; they are our heroes.' Now our Prime Minister has made a decision that this is a new normal; when they attack, we will retaliate,' Lal stated.
'We attacked only terrorist bases and did not kill any civilians... We only precisely attacked the terrorists... We request the world community, especially our South Korean friends, to be with us to fight terrorism... Everybody should now openly admit that Pakistan harbours terrorism, and this is not acceptable in the present world of development,' he added.
Earlier duirng the interaction, delegation leader and Jha called out Pakistan's long-standing role in sponsoring cross-border terror, highlighting the killing of 26 tourists in Kashmir on April 22.
Jha underscored that the attackers were trained, financed, and sheltered by Pakistan.
'Yesterday, India became the fourth-largest economy in the world. We surpassed Japan. We are the largest democratic country. The Government of India has sent seven delegations to different countries across the world to apprise them about what happened in Kashmir on April 22 where 26 innocent tourists were gunned down in front of their families on religious lines, 25 Indians and one Nepali,' Jha said.
Emphasising India's shift in approach under Operation Sindoor, he made it clear that India will no longer distinguish between terrorists and the countries that support them.
'All (the terrorists) came from Pakistan. Pakistan trained them, financed them, gave them shelter. It has been the state policy of Pakistan to sponsor terrorism for the last 40 years. If you have seen or read the Sky interview of Khwaja Sharif, the Pakistan Defence Minister, he admitted that we have been doing this dirty work for the last 30 years,' Jha said.
'The Republic of Korea is important to us as the country is a member of the UNSC. At UNSC, the world should unite to fight against terrorism... We can't change our neighbour and the way they are behaving, India changed its policy. We launched Operation Sindoor. Now it's a new normal in India. If something happens, we will not differentiate between the terrorists and the country that sponsors terrorists,' he added.
On Sunday, the Jha-led delegation held a meeting with the Ambassador of India to South Korea, Amit Kumar, at the Indian Embassy in Seoul.
Along with Lal, the delegation includes Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M) MP John Brittas, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, BJP MP Brij Lal, BJP MP Pradan Baruah, Ambassador Mohan Kumar, and BJP MP Hemang Joshi.
The visit marks a continuation of Operation Sindoor, India's diplomatic outreach following the recent terror attacks in Pahalgam. (ANI)

Daily Briefing: Jersey No. 18

Good morning, Punjab Kings were 29 runs short and had only four balls left when the camera panned to a visibly emotional Virat Kohli. Just moments before, Kohli had gestured to his partner in adversity, AB de Villiers: he was about to cry. Draped in Jersey No. 18 (which now feels like a prophecy), Kohli sunk his face into his hands, his eyes already teary. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were on the cusp of history. Punjab Kings (PBKS)'s last-man-standing, Shashank Singh, had missed the second ball of the last over, sealing the game's fate. To Singh's credit, he swung valiantly, hammering boundaries off the final four deliveries. But it was too late. On the final delivery, the crowd erupted. Kohli dropped to the turf. Somewhere in the chaos, Singh's last-ball six went unnoticed. The RCB had done it, clinching its first IPL title after 18 long years. Villiers, Chris Gayle, and Kohli — the holy RCB trinity — were on the field for the post-match session. As Kohli put it, the trio have given their prime to the team, all three of them deserved to lift that cup. It would be remiss not to mention the man who led the RCB to this feat. My colleague Sandip G traces the journey of Rajat Patidar, the soft-spoken man of steel. To be fair, the PBKS fought. They kept RCB under 200 and refused to go down without a fight. However, it wasn't enough to break the 18-year drought — perhaps it wasn't their time. For now, it's RCB's moment, as they can finally say, Ee saala cup namdhu (this year, the cup is ours!) On that note, here's what else we have for you today. The election of a left-leaning South Korean President, Lee Jae-Myung, could not have come at a more decisive time. The US remains at odds with China as the world looks at them to relax commercial tensions. Lee's pragmatic realism could reposition South Korea as a strategic balancer rather than a compliant US ally. Amid these rumblings in Asian geopolitics, contributing editor C Raja Mohan writes on the need for Delhi to realign its own Asia strategy. New rules: The Centre has introduced a domicile-based job reservation system and lifted the ceiling on the total quota to 85 per cent. It also brought in regulations to recognise local languages and provide clarity in civil service recruitment. This series of changes is the Centre's first attempt to tailor governance specifically for Ladakh. Though it's an important step, the regulations fall short in addressing certain core demands of protesting Ladakhis. Break from tradition: India has attended every G7 Summit since 2019 on the invitation of the host country, except 2020, when the US cancelled the huddle. Less than two weeks are left for the start of this year's G7 Summit, to be hosted by Canada. India, however, is yet to receive an invitation to the gathering. In Parliament: The Centre is set to bring an impeachment motion against Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma, caught in a cash-at-home row, in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. To that end, the government has reached out to the Opposition parties to build political consensus. Some Opposition leaders, meanwhile, have written to Prime Minister Narendera Modi, seeking a special session on Operation Sindoor, India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. On record: A viral video of an aged convict is doing the rounds on the internet. The rare courtroom battle shows the judge and the woman, who is currently serving life imprisonment, discussing the allegations of 'burn marks' on her husband's body. The video shows 65-year-old Mamta Pathak, a chemistry professor (not a lawyer), who decided to fight her case on her own. Read all about this sensational murder trial. Cab conundrum: Goa is on a mission to redefine its tourism identity to ensure positive travel experiences. Recently, the government published draft guidelines to regulate app-based transport aggregators, including urging local taxi operators to 'integrate' with state-backed taxi platforms, Goa Taxi App and Goa Miles. However, the move has sparked fears that the entry of private app-based taxi aggregators could threaten the livelihoods of local taxi drivers. "Anti-Hindu mindset": BJP's Shankar Ghosh criticises TMC over arrest of Sharmistha Panoli

Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) MLA Shankar Ghosh on Wednesday hit out at the TMC government in West Bengal over the arrest of a law student, Sharmistha Panoli , terming this move an "anti-Hindu" and an attempt to "appease" a particular community. Criticising West Bengal police over selective action, Ghosh pointed out that no action was taken against the TMC leaders in the past over their alleged "dirty" remarks on Hindu deities. "This government has an anti-Hindu mindset, and the police also work in the same way. You must have seen that earlier, many TMC MLAs and MPs have said dirty things about Hindu deities. At that time, FIRs were registered, but no action was taken," the Siliguri MLA told ANI. This shows their anti-Hindu mindset and desire to appease a community. They are not at all prepared to file one case against Sharmistha," the BJP leader added. This comes after a 22-year-old law student from Pune , Sharmistha Panoli, was arrested by Kolkata Police in Gurugram on Friday for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with a video on Operation Sindoor . The Instagram clip was reportedly derogatory towards a particular religion. However, Panoli had deleted the video and issued an apology on May 15. Live Events On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court refused to grant interim bail to Instagram influencer Sharmistha Panoli. On Saturday, she was produced before the Alipore Court in Kolkata, which remanded her in judicial custody for 14 days. According to the Kolkata Police, several attempts were made to serve legal notices to Panoli and her family, but the attempts were unsuccessful because Panoli and her family absconded. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued by the court, based on which she was arrested from Gurugram on Friday night. "The case relates to an Instagram video by a lady named Sharmishta Panoli that hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community. An FIR was lodged at the Garden Reach Police Station. Attempts to serve notice as per law couldn't be successful since the accused, with her family, absconded. Subsequently, a warrant of arrest was issued by the court of law, based on which she was arrested from Gurgaon yesterday," as per the Kolkata Police. Earlier on June 1, Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Bar Council of India and Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, strongly condemned the arrest of law student Sharmishtha Panoli. Mishra denounced it as a grave miscarriage of justice and a direct attack on freedom of expression . Mishra asserted that the Bengal government and Kolkata Police have repeatedly demonstrated selective enforcement of the law, targeting individuals from specific communities while overlooking more serious offences committed by others.
