SP making casteist statements: Gaurav Bhatia on Ram Gopal Yadav's remarks on Wing Commander Vyomika Singh

India Gazette16-05-2025

New Delhi [India], May 16 (ANI): BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia on Friday termed the remarks of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav referring to the caste of Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as 'extremely unfortunate'.
'It is extremely unfortunate that on one hand, the whole country is celebrating the Operation Sindoor and feeling proud of the Indian armed forces teaching Pakistan a lesson, while on the other hand, the Samajwadi Party is making anti-national and casteist statements,' Bhatia told ANI.
He alleged that the leaders, like Ram Gopal Yadav did not want the country to progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'He (Ram Gopal Yadav) did not even know the name of our national pride, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh... There is a reason for this toxicity. These people do not want the country to progress under PM Narendra Modi,' he said.
'If Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav had read the law, they would have known that using casteist slurs is a crime under the SC/ST Act. So he has committed a crime too. I am sure that Akhilesh Yadav will not take any action against Ram Gopal Yadav,' he added.
Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Yadav defended his remarks, referring to many cases of atrocities against minorities, Dalits and backward classes in north Indian states, especially Uttar Pradesh.
Taking a dig at UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who labelled his remarks as 'casteist', Yadav said that the CM, under whose nose the atrocities are committed, reacted to his statement without even listening to it. He also ridiculed the media channels, saying nobody except the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trusts them.
'I am surprised that the Chief Minister, under whose nose unimaginable atrocities are being committed on minorities, Dalits and backward classes, tweeted without even listening to my entire statement. I have no complaint against the media channels that have taken over Islamabad and Rawalpindi because no one except the ruling party trusts them,' Yadav posted on X.
The SP MP clarified that he was making a point about people with 'corrupt mentality' that those who 'abused' Colonel Sofiya Qureshi on the basis of her religion would have abused Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Air Marshal AK Bharti, had they known their caste location.
'In some states of North India, particularly Uttar Pradesh, false cases are being filed against people on the basis of religion, caste and class. Encounters are being carried out on the basis of caste and religion. Property is being seized by declaring them gangsters on the basis of caste, religion and class. Women are being tortured on the basis of caste, religion and class. Postings of employees and officers are done on the basis of caste, religion and class...,' Yadav said.
'I had made statements about people with such corrupt mentality in a programme yesterday, stating that Colonel Sofia was abused because she was identified by her religion, Foreign Secretary Mistry was abused, if these abusers had come to know that Vyomika Singh is Jatav and Air Marshal Bharti is Yadav, then they would not have refrained from abusing these officers also,' he added. End percentage raj in state: BJP to Cong

Hyderabad: BJP National Vice President and Member of Parliament DK Aruna urged the Congress government in the state to stop looting and focus on development. While addressing the media on Friday after attending the 'BJP Bharosa' program—where party representatives interact with the public to address their concerns—she alleged that a 'Percentage Rule' is prevalent in Telangana. Under this rule, pending bills are only paid if 30 per cent is first paid as a bribe. The corruption chain continues in the state, with many families of key leaders involved in this practice, she alleged. 'This isn't just speculation; the Congress party ministers and key leaders have openly acknowledged it.' Telangana is still being looted and needs to prioritise development. 'We have already raised concerns about the RR tax collection in the state. From Rahul Gandhi to Revanth, it appears that everyone is receiving bribes. There seems to be no shortage of funds for corruption, yet the government claims there is no money to fulfil its promises,' she alleged. The Telangana BJP is committed to fighting until this corrupt regime is dismantled, she added. Turning her ire on the State Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, she said, the cabinet met and discussions lasted five hours. 'All exepcted the meeting would address and resolve several issues faced by the people and the state. However, when state employees requested five pending dearness allowances (DAs), they were given only one. This is another instance of cheating government employees. Does the Chief Minister not feel ashamed? If the government is honest, it would immediately release the remaining DAs owed to employees,' she said. 'The decision to form a Healthcare Trust appears to be misleading employees; we want action, not empty promises,' she said. D K Aruna said contractors are hesitant to bid for development works in the state, and the condition of roads has deteriorated significantly. Development works in the state are predominantly funded by the central government. While the state government now claims it will build roads—which is a positive step—contracts should be awarded to those who lost contracts in the past. However, the BJP MP took strong exception for bringing contractors from neighbouring states who are being favoured to settle pending bills, 'neglecting local contractors who have already incurred losses. Pending bills should be released without requiring a percentage cut,' she demanded. 'Furthermore, a public referendum should be held regarding the Alampur ethanol factory. Setting up such industries without proper approval creates issues that have to be addressed. The government should engage in dialogue with farmers about these initiatives. The focus should be on irrigation project works statewide, especially reviewing the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Detailed Project Report (DPR). It is known that the capacity of the Guden Doddi under Nettempadu is set to be increased, which will not be beneficial. Reservoirs should be built by sourcing water from the Jurala,' she added.

Train links are a welcome now release prisoners on Eid to reduce Dil Ki Doori: Mirwaiz to Modi

ANI Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that if the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'Dil Ki Doori' then humanitarian steps like release of prisoners need to be taken immediately. Mirwaiz while addressing a Friday gathering here at historic Jama Masjid in downtown Srinagar said that train links are a welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure. On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, Mirwaiz said that for thousands of families in J&K, the festival brings no joy. 'Their sons, husbands, fathers and brothers have been incarcerated for years—many without trial—in jails within and outside J&K. And each passing day, more of our youth are detained,' said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat chief said that all such prisoners, including political leadership, remain in the prayers and thoughts of the people. Mirwaiz urged Government of India that a goodwill gesture be made on the occasion of Eid, by releasing these prisoners. 'If the Prime Minister truly seeks to reduce the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) which he often mentions in his speeches, then such humanitarian steps are the real way forward. Train links are welcome, but it is the human links that truly matter and endure," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader also condemned the tragic and inhuman killing of 30-year-old Zubair Bhat of Ali Kadal, Srinagar, who was working in New Delhi. "The incident is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. Zubair's custodial-like death—allegedly at the hands of Delhi police as claimed by his family—has brought back haunting memories of such deaths and raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of Kashmiris residing or working in different parts of India," said Mirwaiz. The Hurriyat leader said that the killing has sent shockwaves through the community and added to the prevailing fear and anxiety among the thousands of Kashmiri students, professionals, traders, and labourers living outside J&K. 'After the recent Pahalgam incident, Kashmiris across the country are increasingly facing hostility. And now, an innocent young trader has been killed in cold blood. How long will this go on?' Mirwaiz asked. The Hurriyat leader urged the Government of India and the Union Territory administration to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and ensure the safety, security, and dignity of all Kashmiri citizens, especially those outside the region. 'The silence and inaction only embolden those targeting Kashmiris,' he also made a heartfelt appeal to civil rights organisations, writers, intellectuals, and conscientious citizens of India to raise their voice against "the growing onslaught on Kashmiris and to stand up in solidarity with the victims of such brutality."
