This is the cheapest RTX 5070 gaming PC I've ever seen! Plus, get $200 off my favorite MacBook and more — Power Picks

Tom's Guide18-07-2025
Friday's power picks are, well, powerful — you can get a massive $700 off the MSI Aegis gaming PC with RTX 5070 power, $200 off the M4 MacBook Pro, 20% off one of my favorite gaming headsets and more!
What was funny about these is that retailers are not advertising them heavily. These are definitely the savings that they don't want you to know about — probably because all of these are either price matching or are lower than what we saw at Prime Day.
And as has become pretty customary, yesterday's power picks are still available! That means an RTX 5060 gaming PC can be yours for $920 off, and the 49-inch ultrawide curved monitor I'm working on right now (my favorite ever) is $225 off.
But for now, let's get into today's top deals.
This $700 price cut brings this mighty MSI Aegis gaming PC into must-buy territory. Alongside that beasty RTX 5070 GPU, you'll find an Intel Core Ultra 265K CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB SSD. All of which is packed into a gorgeous case with plenty of RGB cooling to really add some flair to your desk.
If I'm buying a laptop, I'll always go with the M4 MacBook Pro for its scary fast performance and power efficiency — slowly sipping that battery life while I dig into a complex 4K edit. For most creative enthusiasts (like me), the M4 chip is more than enough horsepower to get the job done, alongside 16GB of unified memory and a 512GB SSD.
Everyone's favorite game is back: can you buy an RTX 50-series GPU for MSRP? The answer, unfortunately, is no. But with this 17% saving, this brings the RTX 5070 to just $30 over that $549 retail price. Plus, it's a triple fan-cooled and overclockable, and in my own time with the 5070, the ceiling on how much more performance you can get out of it (frame rates up by 15% before crashing) is impressive.
Like a cable-free gaming setup? Asus' ROG Delta II wireless headset is one of the best you can get — packing giant 50mm titanium-plated drivers to deliver immersively deep sound, a 10mm super-wideband mic for comms and a 110-hour battery life.
And if you're the work-from-home kinda person, a better webcam than the potato on your laptop is essential. That's where the OBSBOT Meet SE really comes into its own at under $60 — packing a sharp 1080p picture with a 100FPS refresh rate, alongside HDR and gesture control.

My Favorite Laptop for Travel (and a CNET Editors' Choice Award Winner) Is at an All-Time Low Price Today

I knew the moment I first saw the Asus Zenbook A14 at CES 2025 that it would be my new favorite travel laptop. This laptop is big on performance, boasting an amazing 32 hours (!) of battery life, a Snapdragon X Plus chipset, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and an OLED display. But it's also super portable. It's one of the lightest 14-inch laptops available, weighing even less than Apple's MacBook Air. With all of that going for it, it's no wonder the Zenbook A14 ended up winning a CNET Editors' Choice Award and a Best of CES Award for best laptop. The single biggest downside when it first launched was the price. But it just went on sale at Best Buy for $400 off, bringing it down to an all-time low price of $600. My favorite version of this laptop, in the Zabriskie beige color, is now available for a discount of $200. As a result, the $1,000 laptop is going for just $800, no special codes needed. While this isn't the cheapest we've seen for this model (we saw a slightly bigger discount on it back in June), it's still a pretty good bargain on a laptop I highly recommend. If you've been looking for a lightweight, midrange laptop, this sale is your chance to score one you'll love at a much more wallet-friendly price. Why I recommend the Asus Zenbook A14 Prakhar Khanna/ZDNET The Asus Zenbook A14 is one of the best laptops you can buy right now, and there are three reasons it's become my go-to device. First, it offers a long battery life, and by long, I mean you can extend it up to two days without needing a charger. I can carry it in my travel backpack without worrying about the availability of a power outlet. In fact, the Snapdragon X variant is only the second laptop CNET has reviewed with a battery life of more than 24 hours, with the HP OmniBook X 14 lasting an hour longer. That brings me to the second reason I like using the Asus Zenbook A14: its OLED screen. The HP laptop lasted longer during CNET's test thanks to an LCD display, but the Zenbook doesn't compromise on its screen to deliver a stellar battery life. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. You get a 14-inch OLED panel with a 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution. It might not be as sharp as the 2.8K OLED screen on the Asus Zenbook S 14, but you won't find another laptop with this combo of more than 24-hour battery life and OLED display in this price range. I appreciate the OLED screen for its excellent contrast and deep black levels. In CNET's tests with a Spyder X colorimeter, it showed 100% coverage of the sRGB and P3 spaces and 97% of AdobeRGB. My only slight annoyance is the thick bezels, which make it a little less immersive than other Asus laptops. Third, the Asus Zenbook A14 is surprisingly lightweight. At just 2.4 pounds, it's the lightest Arm laptop you can buy. And Asus hasn't traded build quality for the lightweight form factor. Its Ceraluminum build is both rigid and lightweight, keeping the weight in check without making the laptop feel cheap or flimsy. Plus, it's scratch, smudge and fingerprint resistant. Things to keep in mind before you buy the Asus Zenbook A14 Prakhar Khanna/CNET Asus Zenbook A14's keyboard offers a satisfactory experience, and the trackpad is reliable. The A14's Snapdragon X Plus variant (on sale) is more powerful than the Snapdragon X model, but it isn't built for power-intensive tasks. If you want to use power-hungry video editing tools, this laptop is not for you. The M4 MacBook Air might better serve you for this use. This Asus Zenbook A14 is for those who are always on the go and want an extra-long battery life without compromising on screen quality. It's a great laptop, particularly at this price -- and especially if you're looking for an ultralight, ultralong-running laptop for travel. This low price is a screaming deal, and we don't expect it to last very long. But if the laptop itself doesn't seem to be quite what you need or if you just want to shop around a bit, it's always worth checking out our running list of the best laptop deals happening now.

Google backtracks on plans to deactivate shortened goo.gl links

Google is largely reversing course on its plans to discontinue support for all shortened URLs on August 25th. URLS that already show a message saying that they will be deactivated in August will still stop working — the company started showing the deactivation message nine months ago on URLs that 'showed no activity in late 2024' — but otherwise, 'all other links will be preserved and will continue to function as normal,' Google announced on Friday. Google, which stopped letting users make URLs in 2019, initially announced the August 25th deactivation deadline in July 2024. At that time, the company said that existing URLs saw 'less and less traffic as the years went on' and that more than 99 percent of the URLs 'had no activity in the last month.' But in its Friday post, Google said that 'we understand these links are embedded in countless documents, videos, posts and more, and we appreciate the input received.' Google's new Deep Think feature is here — what it does and why it might not stay Ultra-exclusive for long

Google just dropped one of its most ambitious AI upgrades yet. The company is rolling out Deep Think, a powerful new mode inside the Gemini app that boosts the reasoning power of its top-tier model, Gemini 2.5 Ultra. Starting today, Deep Think is available to Google AI Ultra subscribers, with a broader API release for trusted testers expected in the coming weeks. Google says Deep Think excels at challenges that require multi-step reasoning, strategy and iteration. Think of it as giving Gemini more thinking time before the AI responds. Now, instead of rushing to deliver an answer, Gemini engages in parallel thinking, a process that allows it to generate multiple ideas, evaluate them simultaneously and refine its approach before responding. It's a move that brings Gemini one step closer to emulating human-style problem-solving, whether it's debugging code, website building or tackling advanced math. Internally, the model has reached bronze-level performance on the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) benchmark and outperformed competitors on difficult reasoning tests like LiveCodeBench V6 and Humanity's Last Exam, which measure capabilities in science, coding and complex logic. The company also tested Deep Think with academic researchers, including mathematician Michel van Garrel, to explore its potential for tackling theoretical problems and advancing scientific discovery. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. While the original research model behind Deep Think took hours to solve Olympiad-level math problems, the version launching today is optimized for faster, more practical day-to-day use. To try it out, Ultra subscribers can simply toggle Deep Think on in the Gemini app when using Gemini 2.5 Pro. The mode supports longer, more detailed responses and works with tools like Google Search and code execution, though usage is currently limited to a fixed number of prompts per day. As with previous Gemini updates, Google is placing a strong emphasis on safety. The company reports that Deep Think shows improved tone and content moderation over Gemini 2.5 Pro, though it may sometimes refuse benign requests. Google says it's actively performing frontier safety evaluations and working on mitigations as model capabilities advance. For Ultra subscribers, this new feature should support app building, exploring a scientific theory and many more tasks that require a more thoughtful response. While Deep Think is currently limited to $249/month Gemini Ultra subscribers, there's a good chance it could become more widely accessible in the future. Google has a history of offering some of its most powerful AI features, like Gemini Pro and image generation, to free-tier users after initial testing. If Deep Think proves successful and stable, it's likely that Google will broaden access to showcase its capabilities and stay competitive alongside other tech giants.
